We pay a company to clean our bins once a month on bin day. I’m not usually home when they come, but I’m off work today And happened to be in the kitchen. I watched my next door neighbour wait until the cleaner left, take the house number sticker off my bin and put it on his, then swap our bin for his so he had the cleaned bin and I had a non-cleaned one.

He was back in his house before I had time to contain the dog and go outside but now DH is home, WIBU to go round and ask for my bin back??

Ah OP, your DH is a legend! If I could I'd buy him a pint. For getting one over on a tory councillor as much as anything!

We also get our wheelie bin cleaned once a month, it costs a fiver and is possibly some of the best money I spend each month! Can't stand bin stench. Fortunately all our neighbours get the same guy (also a legend!) to do their bins though so no issues here!

mustlovegin · 29/06/2021 10:17

OP saw him do it and he admitted it to her husband

How is it possible that a councillor ignores 'wheelie bin' operation and etiquette?

S0upertrooper · 29/06/2021 10:21

I've just read your update and how well your DH dealt with the CF Tory bin snatcher.

My first thought was "he's getting it tonight!" Hope the sex was great OP, nothing as sexy as an appropriately assertive man!

You really think it's impossible?

You might as well ask how it's possible that several members of a government lie blatantly, award lucrative government contracts to their mates, ignore their marriage vows, break the rules they themselves set. Yet they do.

JudgeJ · 29/06/2021 10:26

@Si1ver

Also paint your number on the bin so he can't do it again.
Also turn it over and paint it on the bottom in case they manage to remove the painted number on the side.
JackieWeaversAuthorityHere · 29/06/2021 10:27

@mustlovegin

This is the stuff of local newspapers

She should have proof before accusing someone, don't you think? Or should everyone go about cancelling Tory politicians for the sake of it?

I found the Tory Grin

I haven't read the whole thread.

Am I the only one here who has never cleaned or had cleaned her wheelie bin?

Coming up 16 years now ...

Don't know if it happens here but when we lived in Germany a van came round after the bin lorry and would clean and hose out your bin for a small fee.
JackieWeaversAuthorityHere · 29/06/2021 10:32

Question for the room: what kind of paint do I need to use on this bin? Will any paint do the job?

Neon gloss. Pref luminous

BrightYellowDaffodil · 29/06/2021 10:38

Well, this thread has been most satisfying.

We've had it all: CF neighbours, bin stealing, a top-notch show-down and even a topical Tory element. Bravo to Mr JackieWeaversAuthorityHere!

FlowerArranger · 29/06/2021 10:38

Prefferred: Neon gloss. Pref luminous

But any paint is better than none

ajandjjmum · 29/06/2021 10:39

You need to paint on your bin -
House number - 'Not to be stolen by Tory councillors'.

The number: just any paint.

@SpeakingFranglais

wonderful update.

does no one get the hosepipe and bleach out every other Thursday like me then and clean their own?

I think most people do what I do and just ignore it.

I wouldn't eat out of it obviously but really, it doesn't need to be cleaned out. It's a bit dirty but it's kept outdoors and all that goes in to it is rubbish. The bin men have never complained about it so I assume it's not any way out of the ordinary.

CambsAlways · 29/06/2021 10:55

Oh my god cheeky fuker, I’d defo confront him

Coming up 16 years now ...

I'm Irish, living in Ireland, and I very much doubt anyone I know has ever had their bin cleaned.

Out of curiosity, I did a google for bin cleaning services near me. There were a couple in Dublin (220km away) but they can be a bit notiony up there. The rest were in England, which is quite a bit further away Grin.

It just seems like a terribly english thing to do (and I mean that in an affectionate way). I worked in London as a student many, many years ago and, on our way to work at 6am, we couldn't believe the number of people out washing their cars every morning. It is just one of those english foibles that I love. I think we can add bin cleaning to that.

Collaborate · 29/06/2021 11:11

It's a massive thread and I've really only read OP's posts, but ?I think technically it is theft. You paid for a service and they stole that from you. It's an attempt to gain a pecuniary advantage by deception.

OP - if I were you I'd make a complaint to the police.

CustardySergeant · 29/06/2021 11:40

OchonAgusOchonOh what does "a bit notiony" mean?

pilates · 29/06/2021 11:44

I’m sure it’s not a one off. It’s amazing that he doesn’t think he’s done anything wrong 😲

Songoftheseas · 29/06/2021 11:44

What a cheeky fucker! I’d be tempted to find nothing for now and then film him when it happens again! Unbelievable!

I'd use normal paint but also a UV pen on it that only shows up under a blacklight somewhere that they wouldn't expect/wouldn't get cleaned off by your excellent bin cleaners.

LookItsMeAgain · 29/06/2021 11:54

@OchonAgusOchonOh - I know what you mean about us Dubliners having 'notions' Wink Do you not have a place that cleans bins nearer to you than the UK or Dublin?? Does no one outside of Dublin not have notions too?? Grin

Peregrina · 29/06/2021 11:55

I was staggered to see how many bin cleaning services there were. I had no idea people had their bins cleaned. I think we have washed our grey bin out once in about 20 years.

I don't think CF neighbour will try that one again, but you had better make sure your drive doesn't have the hint of a weed growing on it.
