Just had an argument with a friend... is there an actual species called Wombles or were they made up creatures?

Thank you

I have just had a childhood flashback - I had completely forgotten my Womble toothbrush holder until now!

feesh · 14/05/2018 03:45

I went on the London Eye with a Womble, I shit you not.

OP are there any other children’s TV characters which you are confused about?

AvoidingDM · 14/05/2018 04:15

An old work colleague of mine ran the London marathon and decided after a few miles to try and keep pace with a Womble. Getting close to the finish line the very fit Womble went for a sprint finish.

feesh · 14/05/2018 04:19

There seem to be some very fast Wombles around

Shockers · 14/05/2018 06:36

That will have been Tomsk (did I mention that he was my first love?). He’s extremely sporty; great on skis too.

They are struggling at the moment with their names. Uncle Bulgaria's atlas is from the 1960s so it includes countries that no longer exist and doesn't have places that do. There is a big debate about whether Yugoslavia should change her name to Croatia.

So if anyone has an oldish but not too old an atlas could they drop it of at the burrow?

Fucketynamechanged · 14/05/2018 14:59

Ooh MNHQ are considering its nomination for classics. Grin

Of course they are real! I saw them live at Coventry Theatre in the 70s for my birthday treat. Played all their hits and more!

EastMidsGPs · 14/05/2018 16:27

Baby Wombles are found under blackberry bushes. Fact.

TyneTeas · 14/05/2018 18:14

I was very excited eavesdropping on what i thought was a Womble conversation on the way home, until I realised it was about chalets in Bulgaria, and not DMme Cholet and DGU Bulgaria

Andrewofgg · 14/05/2018 19:05

Is it true that Wombles can mate with Hobbits and breed unicorns?

AdmiralJaneway · 14/05/2018 19:17

And if you were really in the know - you could dress up as a womble. I have (somewhere!) a forty year old photo of me in full wombling outfit!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 14/05/2018 19:33

Andrew I don't know about that.

But I know Sloths are the South/ Central American cousins of The Wombles.

According to Womble history a Womble called Joseph travelled with Christopher Colombus to the eastern coast of Costa Rica on his fourth voyage on September 18, 1502.
Joseph fell in love with a Neotropical Otter called Tayni & they married & had children.

Are Wombles real??

@TracyBeakerSoYeah see! I wasn't so daft after all... was I folks! Wink

I think @EastMidsGPs has solved the Womble reproduction conundrum.

ScreamingValenta · 14/05/2018 20:38

@Andrewofgg No, they produce either Hombles or Womblits - I thought everyone knew that!

Ledkr · 14/05/2018 20:43

Of course they are real. I was uncle Bulgaria when I was 10.

Fucketynamechanged · 14/05/2018 20:45

Oh please report and get this in classics. It would make my Blush completely worth it!

It is noticeable that since the Wombles were forced into hiding by the paparazzi in the 1980s the problem of litter and non-recycling has got worse.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 14/05/2018 23:30

Apparently they’re thinking of coming out of hiding after watching Attenborough’s dead baby whale on Blue Planet. Plastic manufacturers had better watch out. Mme Cholet is thinking of running for Environment Secretary.

Fucketynamechanged · 14/05/2018 23:32

I'd vote for a Wombles party. I think they should consider a coalition with the Green Party

With my exceptionally good MP having just stood down (she's going to be Deputy Mayor of London... I know that Sharing Nicely is important, but don't think Lewisham [East] is likely to do well out of their generosity) I'd be open to voting Womble... TBF it's such a Labour safe seat they could probably have a Womble stand & still win...

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 15/05/2018 08:08

So folks, which Womble would make the best Prime Minister?

TyneTeas · 15/05/2018 08:10

Most areas of government could only be improved by Womble representation

Fucketynamechanged · 15/05/2018 08:11

Would probably be incredibly rude of me to suggest the current one may in fact be a womble of another kind
