Because they are 'that good'? I realise different songs may affect people differently Smile

I have lots:

The last part of Do the right thing, Simply Red
The last part of Light my fire, Will Young
The whole of Sandstorm, Darude
The chorus of Love Love, Take That
The chorus of The Flood, Take That
The whole of Praying for time, George Michael
The whole of Sing Hallelujah, Dr Alban
The last chorus, to the end Confusion, ELO
The last bit, to fade, Rise, Gabrielle
All of Don't You, Simple Minds
All of Shine, Years and Years
All of Paradise by the dashboard light, Meatloaf
All of Home By The Sea, Genesis

Just off the top of my head Smile

Robbie Williams- love my life

Orlandointhewilderness · 15/01/2018 22:39

oh love this thread.

when love and hate collide by Def Leppard. When EXH did what he did i had this on repeat while i cried huge, racking sobs. even now i can't listen to it without feeling that horrible wrenching pain.
johnny cash - hurt. for the fragility of human life.
ewan macoll - joy of living. very raw and heartfelt song. it was the last he recorded and it just wonderful and painful at the same time.

PinkyBlunder · 15/01/2018 22:42

EnidButton I second River. It was on the radio a lot this Christmas just gone and I had a particularly hard one. It hits all the nerves.

Losing you by Randy Newman, I find especially hard to listen to.

‘I guess most of my dreams have come true
With it all here around me
No peace do I find
'Cause I'll never get over losing you
No, I'll never get over losing you’

There’s so much honesty in Randy Newman’s writing.

Polarbear46 · 15/01/2018 22:43

Lady Gaga - Million Reasons
Just all of it

Her song Joanne is something special too

@EastMidsGPs ah Thunder Road, I love that one too. We saw him last time he played in Britain and he played that - it was spine-tingling!

Doublevodka · 15/01/2018 22:44

Fields of gold by Sting.
That song gets me every time.

itsallabitrubbish · 15/01/2018 22:46

The last line of this one by Will Young gets me every time

wouldn't know how to say
How good it feels seeing you today
I see you've got your smile back
Like you say, you're right on track
But you may never know why
Once bitten, twice as shy.
If I'm proud, perhaps I should explain:
I couldn't bear to lose you again.

SansaClegane · 15/01/2018 22:46

Dumbledore and this line...

"Well, we might die from medication, but we sure killed all the pain"

Resonates with me on so many levels.
I love that whole album (I'm Wide Awake) so much; nice to meet a fellow fan Grin

beepbeeprichie · 15/01/2018 22:50

Cat's In The Cradle by Harry Chapin.
Gets me every single time.

SylvesterMcM0nkeyMcBean · 15/01/2018 22:51

I absolutely love you.
But we’re absolute beginners.

So much by newton Faulkner

I wish you could see me
I'm flying, still don't know how
I owe you so much
I guess you knew that

I know that you would be proud of me
I hope you are
I owe you so much
I hope you knew that

There's so much of you in everything I do
Just wish that you were still around
But I'm following through, just could do so much more
If you were still around, were still around

I'm still here, still fighting
Still crazy, still trying
I owe you so much
I hope you knew that

There's so much of you in everything I do
Just wish that you were still around
But I'm following through just could do so much more
If you were still around

It's one thing time will not erase
My life would not have been the same
I miss you, I could use a friend
To run some things by you now and then

There's so much of you in everything I do
There's so much of you in everything I do
Just wish that you were still around, were still around

I wish you could see me
I'm flying

There's so much of you in everything I do
Just wish that you were still around
But I'm following through just could do so much more
If you were still around

It's one thing time will not erase
My life would not have been the same

Yes-white wine in the sun - love it

And James sometimes-the line 'sometimes I look in your eyes & I swear I can see your soul' often plays on a loop on my head

Also all of the Mark Kozelek album that's a cover of the AC/DC album-what's next to the moon. So beautiful-everyone go & listen to it right now if you haven't heard it!

OurMiracle1106 · 15/01/2018 22:53

Donna taggart- jealous of the angels
Auld Lang’s Syne- I lost both my parents my mum always loved New Years and my dad was a Scot.

leftwiththedognow · 15/01/2018 22:54

Place marking so I can look back on this Friday night with my headphones on
And that's just the first post never mind the answers Grin

Dancetherain · 15/01/2018 22:55

maiden the JCB song gets me too. Dp would sing it all the time when ds1 was little and when I hear it it reminds me how much he's grown up and of him being little. He's 14 and it's all gone so fast!

Mine is mark Owen baby I'm no good (I'm aware this isn't cool)

'in the end when I've fallen
Face down in the rain
And you come back to ask me
What I lost, what I gained
I'd probably answer
I did all that I could
But it wasn't that much I'm afraid
Baby I'm no good.

everythingisempty · 15/01/2018 22:55

When Joni Mitchell sings
"You said love is touching souls... Surely you touched mine cos part of you pours out of me in these lines from time to time" gets me everyone

Katescurios · 15/01/2018 22:56

Bit of an odd one but my mum loved it so we played it at her funeral,, brings a tear to my eye every time I play it.

Dolly Parton - when Jesus come calling for me

When I was a child I recall and old man; everybody loved old Zeke
He was all alone, his family was gone; one day he said to me

I'm just sitting here thinking about Jesus, rocking as my old chair creaks
Some glad day I'll fly away when Jesus comes calling for me
It might be today, it might be tomorrow, maybe one day next week
I'll soon be done with trouble and sorrow when He comes calling for me
When Jesus comes calling for me

When I die don't grieve and cry
Lordy, don't feel sorry for me
Oh what a day, what a mighty fine day
When Jesus comes calling for me
When He comes calling for me

I might be in the graveyard walking talking to my family
Or I might be plowing in the field down yonder, just old Muley and me
Wherever I am, whatever I'm a doing, some sweet day I'll see
A band of angels in a cloud of glory when Jesus comes calling for me
When He comes calling for me

When I die just close my eyes
And lay me beneath the willow tree
Oh what a day, what a mighty fine day
When Jesus comes calling for me
When Jesus comes calling for me

I'm just sitting here watching for Jesus, rocking as my old chair creaks
Some sweet day I'll fly away when Jesus comes calling for me
When He comes calling for me

AthenaAshton · 15/01/2018 22:57

Abba: The Winner Takes It All (especially "I don't want to talk/if it makes you feel sad/And I understand/You've come to shake my hand"). Shivers-down-the-spine stuff...

everythingisempty · 15/01/2018 22:57

Carol King
"When the skies above you grow dark and full of clouds and that old north wind begins to howl, keep your head together and CALL my name out loud and soon you'll hear me knocking at your door"

Reminds me of my late DM who loved Carol King and who I wish so much was still here.

SylvesterMcM0nkeyMcBean · 15/01/2018 22:59

Open arms, by elbow (I moved away and often get homesick, this brings instant tears every time)

So with finger rolls and folding chairs
And a volley of streamers
We can be there for tweaks and repairs
Should you come back home

We got open arms for broken hearts
Like yours my boy, come home again

Dancetherain · 15/01/2018 22:59

Ooh and forgot Eric Clapton Tears in heaven absolutely breaks my heart.

Katescurios · 15/01/2018 23:00

And Frank Sinatras 'My Way' which we played at my Dads funeral.

Bonjovi Its my life always makes me smile. Me and DH loved dancing to that when we were dating.

SleepIsForTheWeek · 15/01/2018 23:05

I've lost everyone I loved in the last 15 years so these words get me everytime:

So in the stillness of the moment
Make sure you take a Polaroid picture
And keep it with you forever
To remind yourself that everything changes
But there was this one time
There was this one time
When things were okay...

TammySwansonTwo · 15/01/2018 23:09

ABBA - The Day Before You Came

And since my mum died, any time I hear Hurt by Christina Aguilera, I become uncontrollably hysterical - I'm really not a fan but the lyrics are so accurate:

Seems like it was yesterday when I saw your face
You told me how proud you were, but I walked away
If only I knew what I know today
Ooh, ooh

I would hold you in my arms
I would take the pain away
Thank you for all you've done
Forgive all your mistakes

There's nothing I wouldn't do
To hear your voice again
Sometimes I wanna call you
But I know you won't be there

Ohh I'm sorry for blaming you
For everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself by hurting you

Some days I feel broke inside but I won't admit
Sometimes I just wanna hide 'cause it's you I miss
And it's so hard to say goodbye
When it comes to this

Would you tell me I was wrong?
Would you help understand?
Are you looking down upon me?
Are you proud of who I am?

There's nothing I wouldn't do
To have just one more chance
To look into your eyes
And see you looking back

Ohh I'm sorry for blaming you
For everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself, ohh

If I had just one more day
I would tell you how much that I've missed you
Since you've been away
Ooh, it's dangerous
It's so out of line
To try and turn back time

I'm sorry for blaming you
For everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself by hurting you
