Because they are 'that good'? I realise different songs may affect people differently Smile

I have lots:

The last part of Do the right thing, Simply Red
The last part of Light my fire, Will Young
The whole of Sandstorm, Darude
The chorus of Love Love, Take That
The chorus of The Flood, Take That
The whole of Praying for time, George Michael
The whole of Sing Hallelujah, Dr Alban
The last chorus, to the end Confusion, ELO
The last bit, to fade, Rise, Gabrielle
All of Don't You, Simple Minds
All of Shine, Years and Years
All of Paradise by the dashboard light, Meatloaf
All of Home By The Sea, Genesis

Just off the top of my head Smile

liquidrevolution Are You The One That I’ve Been Waiting For is one of my absolute favourite songs. I like the bit that goes:

“Oh we will know, won’t we?
The stars will explode in the sky
Oh but they don’t, do they?
Stars have their moment, then they die”

Kittenswithattitudeandchickens · 15/01/2018 22:06

@Autumnchill just googled the David Gray version, I find it a bit pub singer ish. Can’t beat the Soft Cell version. Check out Tainted Love, absolute class!

Kittenswithattitudeandchickens · 15/01/2018 22:08

@NSEA , my ex boss was absolutely convinced that Nothing Compares to you was about giving up smoking!!

Snowdrop18 · 15/01/2018 22:12

Ryan Adams "feels like fire"

Just so you know
You will always be the hardest thing I will let go

Tryingtogetitright · 15/01/2018 22:12

Perhaps Love by John Denver and Placido Domingo

Some say love is holding on and some say letting go, some say love is everything and some say they don't know
....
if I should live forever and all my dreams come true my memory of love will be of you

SuperBeagle · 15/01/2018 22:14

By My Side by INXS.

It was played at my dad's funeral, as he and my mum met at an INXS concert. It was then the "theme" song for the NRMA fire insurance ads for a long time, and it was at a time when Australia was enduring year-on-year bushfires, so it's burned (no pun intended) into my memory for that reason too.

daisyswirl · 15/01/2018 22:16

Muse-Starlight...My life, you electrified my life. How i feel about my dh.

Also for some strange reason Annies song by John Denver. The whole thing makes me feel quite teary!

KERALA1 · 15/01/2018 22:18

Yes to Annie's song. My sisters first dance at her wedding was this as was her fils favourite - he died just before my sister met her lovely dh. As soon as the first bars played her dhs mother, sister and brother burst into tears. So that one gets me every time.

thelastjedi · 15/01/2018 22:22

@darumafan yes to Adams Song.

thelastjedi · 15/01/2018 22:24

@buckeejit how could I forget Vincent?? Surely one of the most beautiful songs ever written

cushioncovers · 15/01/2018 22:25

If you can't tell your sister
If you can't tell a priest
'Cause it's so deep you don't think that you can speak about it
To anyone
And you tell it to your heart?
Can you find it in your heart
To let go of these feelings
Like a bell to a Southerly wind?
We could be like two strings beating
Speaking in sympathy

Kate Bush song Love and Anger

mrsprefect · 15/01/2018 22:26

Going through this thread downloading songs and looking forward to a good cry! My contribution is White Wine in the Sun by Tim Minchin
'And you my baby girl, my jet-lagged infant daughter, you'll be handed round the room like a puppy at a primary school,
And you won't understand, but you will learn someday, that wherever you are and whatever you face, these are the people who make you feel safe in this world.'

Snowdrop18 · 15/01/2018 22:26

How could I forget....also from Ryan Adams "feels like fire"

Are you there
Screaming in the night
Somewhere hanging from the side

bookworm14 · 15/01/2018 22:27

Boulder to Birmingham by Emmylou Harris, which is about the death of her partner Gram Parsons. The line ‘the hardest part is knowing I’ll survive’ sums up grief for me.

SansaClegane · 15/01/2018 22:27

Oh, Bright Eyes... First Day of My Life for sure. Also this:

"And I don't know what the trouble was
That started all of this
The reasons all have gone away
But the feelings never did
It's not something I would recommend
But it is one way to live
And what's so simple in the moonlight
By the morning never is."

Other songs -
Boys don't cry, The Cure
Superstar, the Sonic Youth version (so haunting)
Hurt, Johnny Cash version
Their Way, Littl'Ans & Pete Dogherty
Perfect Day, Lou Reed
Flowers in the Window, Travis

Literally anything by Damien Rice

thelastjedi · 15/01/2018 22:28

Letting You Go - another Bon Jovi track

It ain't no fun lying down to sleep
And there ain't no secrets left for me to keep
I wish the stars up in the sky
Would all just call in sick
And the clouds would take the moon out
On some one-way trip

I drove all night down streets that wouldn't bend
But somehow they drove me back here once again
To the place I lost at love, and the place I lost my soul
I wish I'd just burn down this place that we called home
It would all have been so easy
If you'd only made me cry
And told me how you're leaving me
To some organ grinder's lullaby

It's hard, so hard, it's tearing out my heart
It's hard letting you go

Now the sky, it shines a different kind of blue
And the neighbor's dog don't bark like he used to
Well, me, these days
I just miss you, it's the nights that I go insane
Unless you're coming back for me
That's one thing I know that won't change

It's hard, so hard, it's tearing out my heart
It's hard letting you go

Now some tarot card shark said I'll draw you a heart
And we'll find you somebody else new
But I've made my last trip to those carnival lips
When I bet all that I had on you

It's hard, it's hard, it's hard, so hard
It's hard letting you go
It's hard, so hard, it's tearing out my heart
But it's hard letting you go

Elledouble · 15/01/2018 22:28

mrsprefect I cried so much listening to White Wine In The Sun when I was pregnant that I had to pull over in the car (couldn’t see the road!) and shout at my partner for playing that to a hormonal pregnant woman!

KERALA1 · 15/01/2018 22:31

Not that I'm divorced but Allison moorers song " if I was stronger" is amazing "if I let go we'll see who was holding on". Straight from the heart.

Taylor Swift "best day" thanking her parents for her childhood - dh and I both in tears in the car at that one "you were on my side even when I was wrong".

And the classic slipping through my fingers meryl streets version.

mrsprefect · 15/01/2018 22:32

Elle - I played it to DH when I was pregnant and he was proper big sobs crying in the car. Big soft touch.

I forgot - Alan Jackson, Where were you when the world stopped turning

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 · 15/01/2018 22:32

How could I have forgotten Boulder to Birmingham? Emmylou Harris' version of Gulf Coast Highway too.

Am off to do a bit of YouTubing now and listen to some of the tracks suggested. 😢

My best friend lost her mum suddenly today and I need to try and make sense of the world a bit tonight I think....

DumbledoresApprentice · 15/01/2018 22:34

Sansa- love that song too. My favourite bit is

And I know you have a heavy heart; I can feel it when we kiss
So many men stronger than me have thrown their backs out trying to lift it
But me I'm not a gamble you can count on me to split
The love I sell you in the evening, by the morning won't exist.

babyinthacorner · 15/01/2018 22:35

At the moment it's Linger...

"Oh I thought the world of you. I thought nothing could go wrong, but I was wrong. I was wrong"

Beautiful beautiful song. RIP Dolores.

MrsDoyleFallingOutTheWindow · 15/01/2018 22:36

Sometimes by James. I'm a 90s chick so love everything from that time but James were always my favourite band because they were spiritual without being preachy, especially this song. I find it really does stir all sorts of awareness but it doesn't beat you over the head with it - it just is.

EastMidsGPs · 15/01/2018 22:36

DH just wandered in ...

In My Life is his contribution

(However, I suspect he'll now compile one of his lists of obscure as well as long forgotten songs, which he always does when I mention one of these MN music threads)
