Because they are 'that good'? I realise different songs may affect people differently Smile

I have lots:

The last part of Do the right thing, Simply Red
The last part of Light my fire, Will Young
The whole of Sandstorm, Darude
The chorus of Love Love, Take That
The chorus of The Flood, Take That
The whole of Praying for time, George Michael
The whole of Sing Hallelujah, Dr Alban
The last chorus, to the end Confusion, ELO
The last bit, to fade, Rise, Gabrielle
All of Don't You, Simple Minds
All of Shine, Years and Years
All of Paradise by the dashboard light, Meatloaf
All of Home By The Sea, Genesis

Just off the top of my head Smile

  • Argh Last Request should be ‘sure I CAN accept we’re going nowhere’ - typo changes the entire meaning of the line!
Kittenswithattitudeandchickens · 15/01/2018 21:19

Aerosmith, don’t wanna miss a thing
Don’t wanna close my eyes
Don’t wanna fall asleep
Cos I miss you babe and I don’t wanna miss a thing

The Beatles, she’s leaving home
Wednesday morning at 5 o clock as the day begins
Silently closing her bedroom door
Leaving the note that she hoped would say more

Soft Cell, say hello wave goodbye
Under the deep red light
I can see the make-up slidin’ down
Well hey little girl you will always make up
So take off that unbecoming frown
As for me, well I’ll find someone
Who’s not goin’ cheap in the sales
A nice little housewife who’ll give me a steady life
And not keep going off the rails

Autumnchill · 15/01/2018 21:21

Isn't that David Gray Say Hello, Wave Goodbye or did Soft Cell do it first? Love that song

TheSleeperandTheSpindle · 15/01/2018 21:24

Follow you, Follow Me by Genesis:

Stay with me,
My love I hope you'll always be
Right here by my side if ever I need you
Oh my love
In your arms,
I feel so safe and so secure
Everyday is such a perfect day to spend
Alone with you
I will follow you will you follow me
All the days and nights that we know will be
I will stay with you will you stay with me
Just one single tear in each passing year

Imchangingmyname · 15/01/2018 21:25

Walking in the air, the piano instrumental version. The first few bars.. so atmospheric, it takes me somewhere else, reminds me of loved ones who have gone and Christmases past. It evokes so much emotion in me.

VetOnCall · 15/01/2018 21:26

Thank you for the days
Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me
I'm thinking of the days
I won't forget a single day, believe me
I bless the light
I bless the light that shines on you believe me
And though you're gone
You're with me every single day, believe me.

MsWanaBanana · 15/01/2018 21:27

Paolo Nutini Last Request. Shattered my heart after a particularly hard break up which I knew from the beginning would never lead anywhere and would break me. I was so heartbroken and would listen to this over and over:
Grant my last request
And just let me hold you
Don't shrug your shoulders
Lay down beside me
Sure I can accept that we're going nowhere
But one last time just go there
Lay down beside me

Also white flag by Dido:
I know you think that I shouldn't still love you
Or tell you that
But if I didn't say it, well I'd still have felt it
Where's the sense in that?
I promise I'm not trying to make your life harder
Or return to where we were
I will go down with this ship
And I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I'm in love and always will be

SnackSnackEatAndCrave · 15/01/2018 21:28

Love this thread!

For the first time by the Script. "Oh these times are hard, and they're making us crazy, don't give up on me baby..." Came out when DP and I were really poor and life was hard, gets me right by the heartstrings!
Another vote for supermarket flowers by Ed sheeran, and small bump, and the one where he sings "it's not his fault he doesn't know your face..." 💔 Ed sheeran is the master of making me cry!

MadeinBelfast · 15/01/2018 21:28

So many great songs here. The JCB Song always gets me, but noone else seems affected by it!

SnackSnackEatAndCrave · 15/01/2018 21:28

Oh, and 3am by Busted. Apparently I've never got over being a very emotional teenager Blush

ArcticMumkey · 15/01/2018 21:32

505 by Arctic Monkeys. Was the soundtrack to a toxic relationship of yester year.

But I crumble completely when you cry
It seems like once again you have to greet me with goodbye
I'm always just about to go and spoil the surprise
Take my hand off've your eyes, too soon

Doesn't look much written down but the way Alex Turner sings it

willothewisp17 · 15/01/2018 21:34

Jim Reeves: You're the Only Good Thing

We have our ups and downs, like all lovers do,
But you know in your heart that I worship you,
So don't ever think of setting me free,
For you're the only good thing that's happened to me

Played at my papas funeral, song chosen by my gran. They were together since they were fifteen, very intimate, small and personal funeral with songs that meant a lot. I can't listen to it, I can barely think of it.

Also Only You, by the Platters, the whole song. Another one played at my papas funeral, he took my gran to see the platters when they were young and sang this to her on the bus home. I walked down the aisle on my wedding day to this song.

Lastly, the pampers preemie advert song, I'm coming home. My daughter was 10 weeks early, and this song gets me.

Thanks to those who have lost!

IcecreamSundays · 15/01/2018 21:36

Kittenswithattitudeandchickens · 15/01/2018 21:37

@Autumnchill I’m an eighties girl, Soft Cell is the only version I know!

HolyMountain · 15/01/2018 21:38

Love me tender Elvis

“You have made my life complete and you always will”

IcecreamSundays · 15/01/2018 21:38

505 also. That song has got me through some sad and lonely times.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 15/01/2018 21:38

La Javanaise - Juliette Greco
Mercy Seat - Nick Cave
Dance Me To The End Of Love - Leonard Cohen

No real reason but they always get me just there.

Autumnchill · 15/01/2018 21:38

Off to find the Soft Cell version, never heard it!

majorfwp · 15/01/2018 21:45

Anything and everything by Leonard Cohen. Hallelujah especially but it's been ruined s but by everyone doing it.

Sarah McLachlan has one album that used to break my heart when I was in my 20s.

One that recently surprised me was a song on the Moana soundtrack. We have it in the car and I forgot to turn it off when the kids got out. There's a bit where the "baddy" is roaring and raging and Moana stays calm and sings in a beautiful haunting voice:

"This is not who you are. You know who you are."

I burst into floods of tears in the car!

amiw · 15/01/2018 21:46

Muse - unintended

Makes me cry everytime since i read the lyrics properly:

You could be my unintended
Choice to live my life extended
You should be the one I'll always love

I'll be there as soon as I can
But I'm busy mending broken pieces of the life I had before

I'll be there as soon as I can
But I'm busy mending broken pieces of the life I had before

Before you

GrooovyLass · 15/01/2018 21:48

Everlong by the Foo Fighters, the line "breathe out, so I can breathe you in" makes me squishy.

A few weeks ago You're So Vain by Carly Simon came on the radio: a song that I neither love nor hate. For some reason I picked up on the line "you gave away the things you loved, and one of them was me" and it made me cry. Never noticed that line before but it's just so full of hurt.

AntsDeck · 15/01/2018 21:51

Ooh Groovy, and Carly Simon's Why does your love hurt so much?

teenybean · 15/01/2018 21:52

Thank you hooman & op

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 · 15/01/2018 21:54

Jim Reeves "I won't forget you" all of it. Came on the radio one morning while I was driving to work, was a snivelling wreck by the time I got there as it reminded me of my dad who was a huge Jim Reeves fan.

Garth Brooks-The Dance.

Jackson Browne-For a Dancer

Charlie Pride-The Comfort of her Wings

NSEA · 15/01/2018 21:56

All of sinead oconnors nothing compares to you, but in particular the lines:

All the flowers that you planted mama
In the back yard
All died when you went away
I know that living with you baby was sometimes hard
But I'm willing to give it another try
