Because they are 'that good'? I realise different songs may affect people differently Smile

I have lots:

The last part of Do the right thing, Simply Red
The last part of Light my fire, Will Young
The whole of Sandstorm, Darude
The chorus of Love Love, Take That
The chorus of The Flood, Take That
The whole of Praying for time, George Michael
The whole of Sing Hallelujah, Dr Alban
The last chorus, to the end Confusion, ELO
The last bit, to fade, Rise, Gabrielle
All of Don't You, Simple Minds
All of Shine, Years and Years
All of Paradise by the dashboard light, Meatloaf
All of Home By The Sea, Genesis

Just off the top of my head Smile

I so wish MN had a 'like' button because I would use it on most of these!
Amazing words, amazing heart-stirring/hurting words Thanks

It hasn't been released, but the second half of the chorus of "Just Like That" by ABBA, and what Agnetha sings over the top of the instumental, always makes me a bit teary. I think it's about leaving an abusive relationship...

"But I led him on...
Knowing that someday soon,
He'd be gone...
Just like that,
As though he'd only stopped a while for a chat,
But my secrets he learned,
Leaving no stone unturned."

I also got a bit teary listening to All I Ask by Adele a few minutes ago - but that might be PMS!

yawning801 · 18/01/2018 16:28

Oh, and Fields of Gold... not sure who it's by.

"Many years have passed since those summer days,
Among the fields of barley.
See the children run,
As the sun goes down,
Upon the fields of gold..."

PuppyMonkey · 18/01/2018 16:42

I remember the day my dad died and I went home and put the Tori Amos song Winter on. Nearly broke my heart. Sad

noeffingidea · 18/01/2018 16:46

Yawning801 it's written and sung by Sting.

ruleshelpcontrolthefun · 18/01/2018 16:50

And if you were with me tonight
I'd sing to you just one more time
A song for a heart so big,
God wouldn't let it live

Hear you me, Jimmy Eat World (Haven't RTWT yet so don't know if it has been mentioned)

Vitalogy · 18/01/2018 17:31

Ah, it's great isn't it. We went on a trip to Wiltshire/Stonehenge the other year, I think Sting lives in Wiltshire, thought of this song as we went past the fields of gold. Smile

bookworm14 · 18/01/2018 17:35

Most of Tori Amos’ first album has this effect on me, particularly Winter, China and Little Earthquakes. Also the line ‘got enough guilt to start my own religion’ from Crucify is just perfect.

Dancing On My Own by Robyn and Loving Kind by Girls Aloud also send shivers down my spine.

bookworm14 · 18/01/2018 17:41

Seriously - this must be the most perfect pop song of the past 10 years.

EnidButton · 18/01/2018 18:58

Chandelier by Sia is pretty incredible. I wish I could send it back in time for 18 year old me to listen to.

ladybird69 · 18/01/2018 19:11

Haven’t read full thread but the one song that can bring me to a blubbering mess is ‘you are my sunshine’

YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE LYRICS
The other night dear, as I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms
But when I awoke, dear, I was mistaken
So I bowed my head and I cried

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

I'll always love you and make you happy
If you will only say the same
But if you leave me and love another
You'll regret it all some day:

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

You told me once, dear, you really loved me
And no one else could come between
But now you've left me and love another;
You have shattered all of my dreams:

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away
In all my dreams, dear, you seem to leave me
When I awake my poor heart pains
So when you come back and make me happy
I'll forgive you dear, I'll take all the blame

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

God I’m in tears yet again.

CauliflowerBalti · 18/01/2018 19:25

Yy to You Are My Sunshine.

CauliflowerBalti · 18/01/2018 19:26

Did y’all hear the Soul Music episode on Radio 4 for You Are My Sunshine? Proper snot bubble sobbing.

ohfourfoxache · 18/01/2018 19:38

All of Patience by Take That.

We lost my grandad in 2006, on a Friday night. I heard this for the first time on the Monday morning. I was in complete shock, I remember I barely had any sensation in my hands. I felt like I’d completely shut down and my dp (now dh) just couldn’t understand why I wasn’t doing DIY in the house we’d bought 2 months earlier.

“My heart is numb has no feeling
So while I’m still healing
Just try and have a little patience”.

noeffingidea · 18/01/2018 21:36

I remember this one from when I had my first baby. Used to watch prisoner cell block H when I was giving him his late night feed and the theme tune stuck in my head. I thought the words were so sad

ladybird69 · 18/01/2018 22:21

Omg cauliflower yes full on snot, tears and can’t breathe when I hear this song.
I didn’t hear the radio 4 episode was it recently?
Please can we have this put into classics we don’t want to lose this thread eh?

Mayhemmumma · 18/01/2018 22:31

Eva Cassidy. Songbird

For you there'll be no crying
For you the sun will be shining
'Cause I feel that when I'm with you
It's all right I know it's right

And the songbirds keep singing
Like they know the score
And I love you I love you I love you
Like never before

To you I would give the world
To you I'd never be cold
'Cause I feel that when I'm with you
It's all right I know it's right

Ratbagcatbag · 19/01/2018 06:26

so so many good songs on here. I've been googling lyrics all last night.

AntsDeck · 19/01/2018 07:22

Me too Rat- I have discovered so many beautiful songs Smile

Catsingangs · 19/01/2018 10:36

Another yy for You Are My Sunshine - didn't realise it was such a sad song having just read the lyrics

Love Love Love by Of Monsters and Men

So I think it's best we both forget before we dwell on it
The way you held me so tight
All through the night
'Til it was near morning
'Cause you love, love, love
When you know I can't love you

That Look You Give That Guy by Eels (could watch the video for this over and over)

I never thought that I could be so bold,
To even say these thoughts aloud.
I see you with your man, and your eyes just shine,
While he stands tall and walking proud.

That look you give that guy, I wanna see
Looking right at me.
If I could be that guy, instead of me
I'd never let you down.

Speak To Me Someone by Gene
If You Could Read My Mind by Gordon Lightfoot

All of these make my top lip go a bit wobbly

10thingsIhateAboutTheDailyMail · 19/01/2018 10:42

If you could read my mind by Gordon Lightfoot is very beautiful

LoisEinhorn · 19/01/2018 10:56

Goodbye My Lover James Blunt

Peacon · 19/01/2018 10:58

Everybody hurts R.E.M. I had a music channel on when this video came on. The part where a old couple are in a car then only one was left. This was 10 years ago just after I lost my grandparents 6 months apart. I can't listen to that song without tears. Also slipping through my fingers by Abba.

noeffingidea · 19/01/2018 15:46

The day before you came, by Abba. Their masterpiece, in my opinion.

AntsDeck · 19/01/2018 16:20

Anyone know how to save this thread so we don't lose all of these amazing songs?
Can I nominate it myself for classics? Can I ask for it to be moved, although I don't know if it would get so much traffic elsewhere?
