Because they are 'that good'? I realise different songs may affect people differently Smile

I have lots:

The last part of Do the right thing, Simply Red
The last part of Light my fire, Will Young
The whole of Sandstorm, Darude
The chorus of Love Love, Take That
The chorus of The Flood, Take That
The whole of Praying for time, George Michael
The whole of Sing Hallelujah, Dr Alban
The last chorus, to the end Confusion, ELO
The last bit, to fade, Rise, Gabrielle
All of Don't You, Simple Minds
All of Shine, Years and Years
All of Paradise by the dashboard light, Meatloaf
All of Home By The Sea, Genesis

Just off the top of my head Smile

Adele is my "thing" at the moment. The middle-eight of When We Were Young made me a bit sniffly recently.

"It's hard to admit that,
Everything just takes me back,
To when you were there,
To when you were there.
And a part of me keeps holding on,
Just in case it hasn't gone.
I guess I still care.
Do you still care?"

yawning801 · 19/01/2018 16:35

I'm not sure Ants, you could try asking for it to be moved somewhere else, just not sure where. How do you nominate threads for Classics?

AntsDeck · 19/01/2018 18:00

@yawning801 no idea Grin

Ratbagcatbag · 20/01/2018 06:43

To nominate for classics or move it, you just click on one of the posts and use the report button I believe. Then put the request in the text box.

AntsDeck · 20/01/2018 12:25

Thanks @Ratbagcatbag Smile

MNHQ say that they have had more than one request to put this in Classics, so they are considering it SmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

Some stunning songs and lyrics on this thread. Have thought of some more since I first posted!

When I Grow Up from Matilda - all of it, really, just something about hearing children sing with such innocence that gets me but especially this part: "When I grow up I will be strong enough to carry all the heavy things you have to haul around with you when you're a grown-up"

If I'm the mood then Young Hearts Run Free by Candi Stanton can have me in tears - "young hearts, to yourself be true, don't be no fool when love really don't love you"

All To Well by Taylor Swift reminds me of what was simultaneously one of the best and worst times of my life - whenever I listen to it I'm transported back there and sometimes I struggle to make it through the whole song. "You call me up again just to break me like a promise, so casually cruel in the name of honest"

City by Sara Bareilles - I used to listen to it whenever I was feeling in lonely and if I listen to it now it stirs up all the same feelings. "In these deep city lights, girl could get lost tonight, I'm finding every reason to be gone, nothing here to hold on to, could I hold you"

Also, weirdly, Wild Ones by Flo Rida. Reminds me a wonderful summer spent with my friends, on the cusp of adulthood. It makes me terribly nostalgic but so happy at the same time.

mogloveseggs · 20/01/2018 13:57

Beatles-let it be. Reminds me of df. Also this the instrumentals are incredibly overwhelming

Nervousrex · 20/01/2018 21:17

I'd completely forgotten about Pink Floyd's The Final Cut - I know a lot of people think the album was a real donkey, but I really like it, especially The Gunner's Dream.

Floating down through the clouds
Memories come rushing up to meet me now.
In the space between the heavens
and in the corner of some foreign field
I had a dream
I had a dream
Good-bye Max
Good-bye Ma
After the service, as you're walking slowly to the car
And the silver in her hair shines in the cold November air
You hear the tolling bell
And touch the silk in your lapel
And as the tear drops rise to meet the comfort of the band
You take her frail hand
And hold on to the dream.

greedycushionhoarder · 20/01/2018 21:38

I may know the word by Natalie Merchant is beautiful.
The whole of the moon by the waterboys.
Hello world by lady antebellum, I challenge anybody to watch the video and not be moved by it.

abundantlyclear · 20/01/2018 21:56

Snow Patrol - you could be happy

You could be happy, and I won't know
But you weren't happy the day I watched you go
And all the things that I wished I had not said
Are played on lips till it's madness in my head …

abundantlyclear · 20/01/2018 21:58

Etta James I would rather go blind

I would rather, I would rather go blind boy
Than to see you, walk away from me child, and all
So you see, I love you so much
That I don't want to watch you leave me baby
Most of all, I just don't, I just don't want to be free no

DotCottonDotCom · 20/01/2018 22:03

Oh heck just thought - Leona Lewis doing Run. I cry. Even in the office. I just can’t.

AntsDeck · 20/01/2018 22:12

Oh gosh, If You Could Read My Mind, had forgotten about that, beautiful

Also from that era Wonderful by Colin Blunstone

Run To You, W Houston, gets me

mummyof2munchkins · 20/01/2018 22:27

This perfectly sums up how i feel about my children... Can't even read the lyrics without getting teary.

Ellie Goulding, How long will i love you

How long will I love you?
As long as stars are above you
And longer, if I can.

How long will I need you?
As long as the seasons need to
Follow their plan.

How long will I be with you?
As long as the sea is bound to
Wash upon the sand.

How long will I want you?
As long as you want me to
And longer by far.

user764329056 · 20/01/2018 22:31

And Window of Hope, Oleta Adams, what a voice

An older song called I Won’t Let You Down by PHD

In The Ghetto, Ellis Presley

The Boxer, Simon and Garfunkel

Dogsmom · 20/01/2018 22:43

Dance with my father again. Sums up perfectly how devastated I feel to have lost my Dad.

Somewhere from West side story.

SevenOf1981 · 20/01/2018 22:53

Oh goodness!
The REM ones mentioned, but also strange currencies and a cover they did called Arms of Love. Holy shit that gets me every time.

Barenaked ladies - what a good boy. Especially the live version. Also, their secret song after 'tonight is the night I fell asleep at the wheel' on maroon.

Flower by the Eels.

Eat that up it's good for you by Two Door Cinema Club has an amazingly uplifting instrumental break in it.

Everlong by the foo fighters.

Teen angst by M83.

LucyMorningStar · 20/01/2018 23:06

Christina Perri - Jar Of Hearts

I wish I had missed the first time that we kissed

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 · 20/01/2018 23:09

Has anybody mentioned (will you meet me on) Clare Island by the fabby Saw Doctors yet?

CoolCarrie · 20/01/2018 23:26

The Waterboys original version of How Long Will I Love You is brilliant, as I’d Whole Of The Moon” I saw the rain dirty valleys, you saw Brigadoon, I saw the planets, you saw the whole of the moon”
This Woman’s work Kate Bush

Ftumch · 20/01/2018 23:34

Ani diFranco - Both Hands
Joni Mitchell - Last time I saw Richard
Incubus - Wish you were here

WindyTriller · 21/01/2018 02:03

These Days - Bon Jovi

Runaway Train - Soul Asylum

The Rose - Bette Midler

A Spaceman Came Travelling - Chris De Burgh

I Want To Know What Love Is - Foreigner

No Regrets - Robbie Williams

I'm sure there are loads more but this is what immediately springs to mind.
