Because they are 'that good'? I realise different songs may affect people differently Smile

I have lots:

The last part of Do the right thing, Simply Red
The last part of Light my fire, Will Young
The whole of Sandstorm, Darude
The chorus of Love Love, Take That
The chorus of The Flood, Take That
The whole of Praying for time, George Michael
The whole of Sing Hallelujah, Dr Alban
The last chorus, to the end Confusion, ELO
The last bit, to fade, Rise, Gabrielle
All of Don't You, Simple Minds
All of Shine, Years and Years
All of Paradise by the dashboard light, Meatloaf
All of Home By The Sea, Genesis

Just off the top of my head Smile

Songs that set me off ....If you leave me now by Chicago , Dance with my Father by Luther Vandross. I cant explain why , Dad is still with us but the song is just so moving.

DesdemonasHandkerchief · 16/01/2018 14:00

I have to change the radio channel if Dance With My Father comes on!

The last two lines in David Bowie's song Where Are We Now, he starts off saying as long as there's sun, as long as there's rain, as long as there's fire, but the last two lines are As long as there's you, As long as there's me. Just seems very poignant, as though he's talking to his wife and particularly sad given what a short time they had left together at that point.

The whole of Damien Rice's I Don't Want To Change You, written for Lisa Halligan, who he once said he would give up everything to have in his life again, poor Damien 😢 but it was self inflicted!

Wherever you are
Well, know that I adore you
No matter how far
Well, I can go before you

And if ever you need someone
Well, not that you need helping
But if ever you want someone
I know that I am willing

Oh, and I don't want to change you
I don't want to change you,
I don't want to change your mind

I also get a bit teary at Come What May from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack because it's how I feel about DH, sadly though he has no interest in music and never hears a lyric unless it's being chanted at a football game Hmm

RhiannonOHara · 16/01/2018 14:00

Oh, so many, including loads of these. Annie's Song is just bursting with love and romance. It makes me swoon, and I never normally think or use that word. Grin

Live Forever, Oasis. Reminds me of me and my dearest friend at uni; dancing to it (or rather, standing about on the dancefloor with an attitude Grin), feeling invincible and as though we could have the whole world. He cut contact with me in our early twenties and I still don't know why. I've never had a friend like him before and I don't think I will again. Actually can't listen to it now.

Love Will Tear Us Apart, Joy Division. Actually stops my breathing for a second, every single time. So desolate and resigned.

Natural Woman, Aretha Franklin. Goosebumps. Shivers. Makes me feel like laughing and sobbing at the same time. Her voice, the lyrics, the melody... It is transcendental. No other word for it.

Strange Currencies, REM. Agonised and so tender.

Brown Eyed Girl, Van Morrison. The essence of romance and nostalgia.

The Ship Song, Nick Cave. Utterly arresting lyrics and enormous ideas. The images it conjures up are spine-tingling and awe-inspiring. It makes the hairs on my arms stand up.

Sumthucker · 16/01/2018 14:12

With your long blond hair and your eyes of blue
The only thing I ever got from you
Was sorrow, sorrow
You're acting funny, try to spend my money
You out there playing your high class games
Of sorrow, sorrow
You never do what you know you ought to
Something tells me you're the devil's daughter
Sorrow, sorrow
I tried to find her cause I can't resist her
I never knew just how much I missed her
Sorrow, sorrow

Reminds me of my absolutely beautiful cousin who went off the rails in dramatic fashion at 17 and has caused nothing but heartache for her mum and family, robbing off us and recently discharging herself from hospital after having ulcers in her stomach removed. She's now 42 and will probably be dead soon Sad

Into my arms, by Nick Cave.

Moon on the rain by Fairground Attraction.

Warm and Tender Love by Percy Sledge.

Love is a losing game by Amy Winehouse.

Oh Darling by Sara Bareilles.

Shake a hand, and I can't believe you wanna leave by Little Richard.

CeriBerry · 16/01/2018 14:14

Haven’t had time to read whole thread yet so apologies if any repeats...

‘Through the years we all will be together, if the fates allow’ from Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

‘When destiny calls you, you must be strong. I may not be with you but you’ve got to hold on. They’ll see in time I know. We’ll show them together’ from You’ll Be In My Heart by Phil Collins

‘You've got the words to change a nation
But you're biting your tongue
You've spent a life time stuck in silence
Afraid you'll say something wrong
If no one ever hears it how we gonna learn your song?
So come on, come on
Come on, come on
You've got a heart as loud as lions
So why let your voice be tamed?
Maybe we're a little different
There's no need to be ashamed
You've got the light to fight the shadows
So stop hiding it away’ from Read All About It by Emeli Sande

RhiannonOHara · 16/01/2018 14:22

Love is a losing game by Amy Winehouse.

Oh YES. So, so, so sad.

noeffingidea · 16/01/2018 17:04

Jessie's song from Toy story 2
(David Bowie I love you) since I was six - The Brian Jonestown massacre

noeffingidea · 16/01/2018 17:16

Forbidden colours - David Sylvian and Yukio Sakamoto.

noeffingidea · 16/01/2018 17:33

Just a couple more from me
Perfect day - Lou Reed
Wild is the wind - Nina Simone.

pullingmyhairout1 · 16/01/2018 17:50

Cold Play 'Til Kingdom Come

'Hold my head inside your hands, I need someone who understands, I need someone, someone who hears, For you, I've waited all these years'

Loved my partner all my life. Only rekindled last year, and he gets me on every level. Very, very emotional

pullingmyhairout1 · 16/01/2018 17:51

Evanescence Bring me to life and My immortal have me in floods.

Many many more songs that draw tears from my eyes.

waitingfortheendtocome · 16/01/2018 18:01

"Don't talk to me in that familiar way,
When the keys are in my hand"
The opening lines to Bittersweet by Everything But The Girl
Tracy Thorn singing this song is just amazing

waitingfortheendtocome · 16/01/2018 18:04

All of Linkin Park's 'Waiting For The End To Come'

dazzlingdeborahrose · 16/01/2018 18:25

Beth Nielsen - Sand and Water. "I will see you in the light of s thousand suns, I will hear you in the sound of the rain. I will know you when I come as we all will come. Through the doors beyond the grave" 😢

Slipping through my fingers from mamma Mia as I watch my daughter grow up

Seasons in the sun. Corny but sad

Jux · 16/01/2018 18:33

The one that springs to mind is Juliet by Dire Straits. Actually almost any song by Dire Straits; I love the voice and the arrangement and the production.

There's one by Mamas and Papas, Dancing Bear which is so so sad.

RhiannonOHara · 16/01/2018 18:37

Seasons in the Sun. Oh God, yes. So melancholy. Made me think of 'Those Were the Days'. 'We thought they'd never end…' Sob!

Tentomidnight · 16/01/2018 18:46

Damoen Rice, Cannonball
I cry every time.

"Still a little bit of your taste in my mouth
....
Still a little bit of your face I haven't kissed
....
Stones taught me to fly
Love ‒ it taught me to lie
Life ‒ it taught me to die
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannonball

Still a little bit of your song in my ear
Still a little bit of your words I long to hear
You step a little closer to me
So close that I can't see what's going on"

Tentomidnight · 16/01/2018 18:47

*Damien Rice

jellycat1 · 16/01/2018 19:03

Losing My Religion, REM

I am loving all of yours Smile

OP posts:
PinkyBlunder · 16/01/2018 19:18

Thought of another one!!

A Woman’s Work by Kate Bush. Don’t know how I could forget it, it kills me!

I should be crying, but I just can't let it show
I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking
Of all the things I should've said
That I never said
All the things we should've done
That we never did
All the things I should've given
But I didn't
Oh, darling, make it go
Make it go away

IthinkImislaid10years · 16/01/2018 19:22

You Make it Easy by Air

One of "our" songs with soon to be exH. How did that go so wrong? Sad

How'd you do it, how'd you find me?
How did I find you ?
How can this be true
To be held and understood?

GreenRut · 16/01/2018 19:32

George Michael Different corner "I don't understand it for you it's a breeze, little by little you brought me to my knees"

Tracy Chapman Fast Car "my old man's got a problem, he live with the bottle that's the way it is "

Annie Lennox Why" let's go down to the water's edge and cast away our doubts, some things are better left unsaid "

Christina Aguilera - all of Sorry

All of these make me blub like no tomorrow thinking about how my dad's alcoholism impacted on my family's life.

In cheerier news....

All of Gladys Knight's You're the best thing that ever happened to me. Happy tears only for that one!

yawning801 · 16/01/2018 19:40

Pinky you've reminded me of Wuthering Heights. It's all pretty teary but the bit that gets me is "You know it's me, Cathy..."
