Because they are 'that good'? I realise different songs may affect people differently Smile

I have lots:

The last part of Do the right thing, Simply Red
The last part of Light my fire, Will Young
The whole of Sandstorm, Darude
The chorus of Love Love, Take That
The chorus of The Flood, Take That
The whole of Praying for time, George Michael
The whole of Sing Hallelujah, Dr Alban
The last chorus, to the end Confusion, ELO
The last bit, to fade, Rise, Gabrielle
All of Don't You, Simple Minds
All of Shine, Years and Years
All of Paradise by the dashboard light, Meatloaf
All of Home By The Sea, Genesis

Just off the top of my head Smile

Sorry posted too soon.

Wichita Lineman by Glen Campbell: 'I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time'. Makes my throat catch.

Plus everything eastmidsgp said; we have very similar music tastes!

EastMidsGPs · 16/01/2018 08:24

Don't know if it because it is miserable January or because we're going through a difficult time illness and family wise at the moment but Macklemore and Kesha's Good Old Days resonates with me at the moment. On in the car and had me sniffling yesterday ... especially the chorus
sung by Kesha:

I wish somebody would have told me that
Someday these will be the good old days
All the love you won't forget
And all those reckless nights you won't regret
Someday soon your old life's gonna change
You'll miss the magic of the good old days.

Into my arms by Nick Cave.

‘I don’t believe in an interventionist god,
But I know darling that you do,
And if I did I would kneel down and ask him
Not to intervene when it came to you.
Not to touch a hair on your head
Leave you as you are
If he felt he had to direct you, then direct you
Into my arms.
Into my arms, oh lord, into my arms.’

It’s beautiful. Reminds me of my darkest times losing babies. Now sometimes I sit and cuddle DS and listen to it. The fact Nick Cave recently lost his own son makes it even more poignant now.

Also ‘Still fighting it’ by Ben Folds.

It’s a letter written to his baby son at his birth, for his 21st birthday. My favourite bit is this...

‘Good morning son,
In 20 years from now,
Maybe we’ll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell
You about today
And how I picked you up and everything changed.’

It’s just beautiful.

@thesunwillout
Lovely isn’t it. I love Ben Folds too.
Oh and The Flaming Lips ‘Do you realise?’ Is wonderful too...

‘Do you realise,
That you have the most beautiful face
Do you realise,
We’re floating in space,
Do you realise,
That happiness makes you cry
Do you realise,
That everyone you know
Someday will die

But instead of saying all of your goodbyes
Let them know you realise
That life goes fast
It’s hard to make the good things last
You realise the sun doesn’t go down
It’s just an illusion caused by the world
Spinning round.’

So. Wonderful.

thesunwillout · 16/01/2018 08:38

Yes great thread, feeling quite isolated at moment so wonderful to share music love.
Saw Mr Cave live few months back, achingly powerful and emotional experience.

AntsDeck · 16/01/2018 10:04

DarthNigel · 16/01/2018 10:06

'Jean' by clean cut kid...I've never got through a listen to it either at home or at one of their gigs without sobbing.

Basseting · 16/01/2018 10:10

Dance with my Father - because I never did.
and
In the Living Years for similar reasons.
Bugger. In floods now.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 16/01/2018 10:30

Love Song for a Vampire:
"Once I had the fairest rose
That ever deigned to bloom
Cruel winter chilled the bud
And stole my flower too soon".

Fuck, I'm off again.

1sttimeunicorn · 16/01/2018 10:31

@Basseting maybe purple rain?

bobstersmum · 16/01/2018 10:43

Too many to list, but lots have already been mentioned , funny how a song can get you isn't it?

Chapterandverse · 16/01/2018 10:48

Sissy's song by Alan Jackson.

Willowwisp23 · 16/01/2018 10:54

Cindy Lauper - Time after time

'after my picture fades and darkness has turned to grey'.

Reminds me of my ex husband who really struggled with our break up.

Alwaysinmyheart · 16/01/2018 11:00

Rival Sons - Jordan. I defy anyone not to cry while listening to it.

poddige · 16/01/2018 11:36

@DumbledoresApprentice concerned we are the same person?

Also to add to those three,

Jeff Buckley - Everybody Here Wants You.

And Joni Mitchell - Green

Born with the moon in Cancer
Choose her a name she'll answer too
Call her green and the winters can not fade her
Call her green for the children who have made her little, green.

Written after she gave up her daughter for adoption, she was young herself at the time. Was poignant before I had children, but now it really breaks my heart every time.

Alwaysinmyheart · 16/01/2018 11:50

Some years ago I had a lovely boyfriend from South America whom I adored. He was very romantic and would sing this song to me. I was heartbroken when we split up and this song would have me sobbing inconsolably. I can listen to it now and just appreciate the beauty of it, guess time heals everything?

It's in Spanish, but even if you don't understand the words, the emotion still comes through, have a listen.

For those of you who mentioned Say Hello Wave Goodbye, the 12" version is even lovelier as it has a beautiful clarinet solo at the beginning. I still have it on vinyl!

mrsprefect · 16/01/2018 12:38

Oh yy to Nick Cave. I used those lyrics for my wedding vows. Beautiful.

Thanks for your babies 1sttime Thanks** so sorry for your loss.

1sttimeunicorn · 16/01/2018 12:53

@mrsprefect thank you.
Got my rainbow after 4 years.
He’s perfect - without losing them I’d never have had him.
But there are definitely songs that set me off.
I listened to ‘into my arms’ when I was in labour. Probably bit of a contrast to your wedding! Grin
