Because they are 'that good'? I realise different songs may affect people differently Smile

I have lots:

The last part of Do the right thing, Simply Red
The last part of Light my fire, Will Young
The whole of Sandstorm, Darude
The chorus of Love Love, Take That
The chorus of The Flood, Take That
The whole of Praying for time, George Michael
The whole of Sing Hallelujah, Dr Alban
The last chorus, to the end Confusion, ELO
The last bit, to fade, Rise, Gabrielle
All of Don't You, Simple Minds
All of Shine, Years and Years
All of Paradise by the dashboard light, Meatloaf
All of Home By The Sea, Genesis

Just off the top of my head Smile

Damien Rice - Volcano

I kissed your mouth and back
But that's all I need
Don't build your world around volcanoes melt you down

What I am to you is not real
What I am to you you do not need
What I am to you is not what you mean to me
You give me miles and miles of mountains
And I'll ask for the sea

Sometimes it snows in April by Prince

Hauntingly beautiful. I don’t think any of Prince’s songs are available on YouTube in the original version, but here is a piano instrumental with the full lyrics in the description:

teenybean · 16/01/2018 00:27

Also, 'Hear you me' by jimmy eat world, it is beautiful

sayimtheonlybeeinyourbonnet · 16/01/2018 00:35

For me it's Rule the world by Take That. I know it's meant to be a love song but for me it reminds me of how I feel about my daughter (hope that doesn't sound weird!) It took many, many years to get her and once I found out I was pregnant and the baby was doing well, it was like the black cloud which had been over me all those years had been lifted. The line 'you've saved my soul' makes my eyes fill with tears. She is my little star that lights up the sky above me. It's such a beautiful song, really tugs at my heartstrings! Star

Joan Armatrading has lots for me! Also Leonard Cohen We'll go no more a Roving.

CauliflowerBalti · 16/01/2018 00:38

Perfect songs - as in, perfect to my ears and therefore fill me with joy;
God Only Knows - The Beach Boys
Can’t Stand Me Now - The Libertines
River Deep, Mountain High - Tina Turner
I Can Change - LCD Soundsystem

Deeply emotional songs:
Songbird - Fleetwood Mac (“and I wish you all the love in the world, but most of all, I wish it from myself”)
Tears In Heaven - Eric Clapton (the whole lot)
Strange & Beautiful - Aqualung (“I put a spell on you, and when you wake I’ll be the first thing you see, and you’ll realise that you love me.” - hurt my heart when breaking up with my ex-husband against my wishes)
One Last Time - Ariana Grande. I just can’t deal with the horror of Manchester.

SukiPutTheEarlGreyOn · 16/01/2018 00:47

James Blake's version of A case of you (as well as Joni's own version as already mentioned by previous posters, in fact almost anything from her album -Blue)
Nick Drake - River man or Day is done (and most of his album - Five leaves left)
Jake Bugg -Simple as this

Morcheeba - Enjoy the ride, featuring Judy Tzuke's lovely voice
With the moonlight to guide you
Feel the joy of being alive
The day that you stop running
Is the day that you arrive...
Stop chasing shadows, just enjoy the ride

And Simon and Garfunkel's - Old friends, which reminds me of being 17 and first love
Time it was, oh what a time it was
A time of innocence, a time of consequences
Long ago, it must be
I had a photograph
Preserve your memories
They're all that's left you

Really enjoying this thread!

Ordinary World Duran Duran

“What has happened to it all?
Crazy, some are saying
Where is the life that I recognize?
Gone away

But I won't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive”

James Arthur _ Safe inside.

Its about children growing away from their parents and makes me sob thinking of my teenage girls and 6 year old ds.
The whole song but especially this bit:

Safe Inside
James Arthur
LYRICS
I remember when you were all mine
Watched you changing in front of my eyes
What can I say?
Now that I'm not the fire in the cold
Now that I'm not the hand that you hold
As you're walking away

marzipancustard · 16/01/2018 01:09

Here You Me - Jimmy Eat World. It's my grandma's song

Growing Up - Macklemore ft Ed Sheeran. Listened to it so many times whilst pregnant and now my little girl is here it's more relevant by the day.

As I Lay Me Down by Sophie B. Hawkins:

It felt like spring time on this February morning
In a courtyard birds were singing your praise
I'm still recalling things you said to make me feel all right
I carry them with me today now

As I lay me down to sleep
This I pray
That you will hold me dear
Though I'm far away
I'll whisper your name into the sky
And I will wake up happy

BlindYeo · 16/01/2018 01:20

Love Song for a Vampire - Annie Lennox

Come into these arms again
And lay your body down
The rhythm of this trembling heart
Is beating like a drum
It beats for you, it bleeds for you
It knows not how it sounds
For it is the drum of drums
It is the song of songs

And Eva Cassidy, Fields of Gold.

EnidButton · 16/01/2018 01:44

All of those pull at my heart Blind. Strong memories associated with all three. All happy ones though.

EnidButton · 16/01/2018 01:46

sayImtheonlybee 💗 Flowers That's really special.

AdaHopper · 16/01/2018 02:03

I sing in a choir and there are a few songs that we can't sing during rehearsals without tears. Also because one of us lost her husband very suddenly in October. Others recently lost a parent or just broke up.

  • you raise me up - Josh Groban
  • make you feel my love - bob dylan
  • palabras de amor - queen

We also get happy energy from:

  • mr blue sky
phylispontypandy · 16/01/2018 02:06

Shouldn't read this haha i have got loads more going in my head now haha!

Rise up- been singing for days now

EnidButton · 16/01/2018 02:07

liquidrevolution · 16/01/2018 02:21

Totally forgot Bonnie Prince Billy- I see a darkness. (Original version not the jaunty one)

user764329056 · 16/01/2018 02:23

“And girl it looks so pretty to me
Like it always did
Like a Spanish city to me
When we were kids”
Tunnel of Love, Dire Straits

Meowstro · 16/01/2018 02:58

Great thread! Many of these songs bring back memories. I went through a massive period of depression years ago, I cried a lot, but especially at songs in the middle of the night due to insomnia. I listen to them now and they make me cry again because I'm still here and I've overcome so much.

All of this is worthy of a cry - Breathe Me by Sia, 'Ouch, I have lost myself again
Lost myself and I am nowhere to be found,
Yeah, I think that I might break
Lost myself again and I feel unsafe

Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small and needy
Warm me up
And breathe me'

Having a good bawl at songs whether you are low or happy is cathartic. Some of the other ones that set me off:

Songbird the Eva Cassidy cover
To Love Somebody by Janis Joplin (as well as Ray LaMontagne cover)
First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack
For Emma by Bon Iver
I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab For Cutie
To Build A Home by The Cinematic Orchestra

I Can Feel Your Pain by Manchester Orchestra, 'I was scared to call your mother
For news that you weren't getting better
Well my God, what the hell am I supposed to do?
And I ran off and ran on to something
That I swore was everything but beautiful
I only say that word for you
Cause I can feel your pain, in my bones, in my bones. '

Angels by The XX, 'And everyday
I am learning about you
The things that no one else sees
And the end comes too soon
Like dreaming of angels
And leaving without them'

Hidingtonothing · 16/01/2018 04:10

God yes Meow, To Build a Home makes me sob Blush

Unihorn · 16/01/2018 06:40

Wasn't Expecting That - Jamie Lawson caught me by surprise the first time I heard it whilst pregnant and emotional.

7 Years - Lukas Graham, just when he talks about hoping his children come to visit when he's older makes me really sad.

Slipping Through My Fingers - Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia really gets me now that I have a daughter too.

With Arms Wide Open - Creed.

Rockabye - Clean Bandit

PinkyBlunder · 16/01/2018 08:14
