I'm going to be a grandfather! Woo hoo! They haven't tuppence to rub together, so there'll be 3 generations under one roof. Still, DD is doing well after the throwing stopped, he's working all the hours God sends, and with luck I shall see New Person into their teens, as opposed to my DF who got less than 7 years of DGF hood. Wish us luck.

Awww.

My parents have looked after my D.C. Since I went back to work FT when they were 6 months old.

My dad says he feels privileged to share this time with them, especially as he missed it when I was growing up because he worked long hours.

One of my DS's first words was "dada" for grandad (his dad is called papa). They have spent HOURS playing together

Squeal! I saw the original thread, but I missed the birth announcement!! Congratulations!!!! He is lovely, lovely, lovely, and so are you OP. I adored my grandfather, you look to be cast in the same mould.

This thread should be available on prescription.

I've just read this for the first time, and it has me somewhat blotchy and damp of face. I have some slightly blurry but very precious photos of my firstborn on the dad's chest as a new born. One with them both asleep, one with DF doing a crossword. Later, them watching cbeebies together. Your DGS is spectacularly lucky to grow up in a house of love, I will be back for the updates. First Christmas will be quite marvellousXmas Smile

I like reciting random words to him: "Mendacious. Singularity. Rebarbative. Punt. Strawberry. Broccoli. Moskva. Chicken. Window."

I intend his mind to be lavishly and strangely furnished.

I intend his mind to be lavishly and strangely furnished.

That's exactly what I am aiming for with my own children and it seems to be a roaring success thus far. Just come across this thread for the first time and your grandson is utterly gorgeous! Hope you all have a wonderful first Christmas with this scrunchy little chap.

Try onomatopoeia. DD's known that word since she was 2. Because we go through Trrrrriiiiiing a lot. Xmas Grin

Actually, DD's mind is lavishly and strangely furnished, and I don't think I had much to do with it... Xmas Grin

Thinking about it, so is DS1's. Maybe it's genetic?

I love this thread so much. Sadly I lost both grandfathers this year - one in September and one very recently! Very lucky that they were able to see me to 18 and go to University! Smile

You are a great grandad OP.

This is so lovely, and what a gorgeous little chap he is. Needs to learn more raspberry blowing skills from Grandpa, but he'll have it very soon I reckon!

OP... your posts have been a joy to read, thank you and many congratulations to you all! The little fella is as lucky to have you in his life, as you are lucky to have him. My own DF adored my boys and they adored him too. He died three years ago and my boys are men now but they still talk about the larks, fun and happy times they had with Gramps. Merry Christmas x
