To clap my hands and skip about in a elephantine manner?

I'm going to be a grandfather! Woo hoo! They haven't tuppence to rub together, so there'll be 3 generations under one roof. Still, DD is doing well after the throwing stopped, he's working all the hours God sends, and with luck I shall see New Person into their teens, as opposed to my DF who got less than 7 years of DGF hood. Wish us luck.

I love when this pops to the top of my 'threads I'm watching' every year. Glad you're all thriving.

AmoebicSquid · 19/06/2023 21:25

Love this thread. Lovely picture, keep them coming please

ilovesushi · 19/06/2023 22:24

Just found this thread. How lovely!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 24/10/2023 14:03

I forgot to mark his birthday, so here's a picture that typifies him: wearing dinosaurs, throwing something, and impervious to the cold.

Happy birthday MiniYChromosome! Running around on the beach is exactly how I chose to spend my birthday too.

6th birthday?

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 24/10/2023 18:13

It makes me very happy every time this thread pops back up!!

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/10/2023 18:21

Oh, how lovely!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 24/10/2023 21:17

His 6th was in August, this is him on Sunday. See the two little dots in the surf? One of them is DD, who's also impervious to cold. I was paddling, having a gippy tummy. I went in the following day though, good for what ails you.

I am shamelessly bumping this thread because it is my favourite and most joyous in Mumsnet Classics.

The kid must be about 6 by now, seeing as the OP posted this in 2017!

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/05/2024 15:38

Yes, and OP has updated the thread from time to time as his grandson progresses. Many of us have followed along.

As @BosworthBosworth says, it is joyous. And that's why it's in Classics.

We need more joyous.

catzrulz · 04/05/2024 12:56

@DisgraceToTheYChromosome and @BoreOfWhabylon
We definitely need more joyous!
I remember reading the first post, in my mind about 3 years ago.
He's 6! How has that passed so quickly.
I hope all is well with the family, this is one of my favourite ever threads.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 27/08/2024 04:52

DD is gently enquiring as what exactly he meant by the word "gay".

"Oh, it's when boys fall in love with boys and girls fall in love with girls. You can fall in love with anyone you like. You can fall in love with a table if you want. It wouldn't be very interesting, but it'd be OK".

Lavishly and strangely furnished indeed.

I love that this thread is still being updated!

He sounds very sensible.

TheCakeDiet · 27/08/2024 09:57

Oh this is brilliant. An update. I love seeing this thread in my 'threads your on' and knowing that there is 'news'.

Seven.

SEVEN.

How can this be?

Sending good wishes from London

You have done your work well, @DisgraceToTheYChromosome Grin

Yougetmoreofwhatyoufocuson · 18/12/2024 13:05

This was lovely thank you. Xx

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 15/06/2025 17:31

Eight years since I first posted. How time flies.

He's pretty much the classic Mumsnet Boy: tall, skinny, possessed of a huge appetite and constantly in motion. He gets odd whims: the last one was acclimatising for open water swimming by climbing into the wetsuit tub wearing his school uniform. That took some explaining to his mother.

Yay, another update. This thread is lovely!

Lovely! Have any more grandbabies arrived Disgrace?

Sadly no, but given that DD and son-out-law* would have had a nervous breakdown if faced by another one like him...he has three sets of grandparents and an active DGGM, and we take it in turns to exhaust him. Yesterday they came round and he spent most of the visit inverted or running.

If I want to make DD's flesh creep, I remind her that I'm the oldest of 4 boys born less than 4 years apart.

*Soon to be official, woo hoo!

Now we are eight. I'm so very glad to have had this time, and hopefully many more years of it.

WagathaCreamT · 27/08/2025 20:44

Wow, 8?! I've enjoyed your thread since the very early days, thank you for updating.
