I'm going to be a grandfather! Woo hoo! They haven't tuppence to rub together, so there'll be 3 generations under one roof. Still, DD is doing well after the throwing stopped, he's working all the hours God sends, and with luck I shall see New Person into their teens, as opposed to my DF who got less than 7 years of DGF hood. Wish us luck.

Well, he just gets more and more gorgeous!

Am wondering who it was that strangely and lavishly furnished your mind Disgrace?

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 12/05/2018 10:02

Books. I've had a reading speed of 1500 wpm since I was 8. DF told us "there's no such thing as useless knowledge", and I went from there. Bit tiresome being banned from pub quizzes, but knowing that you can make a cake with an egg and no scales, or the battery and Brillo trick, or how to make mirrors with silver nitrate...keeps people amused.

This is the most glorious thread.

I have tears in my eyes - happiness and hope and a wish that all could experience such a life.

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/05/2018 10:09

Ah. It was books for me too. I used to read anything and everything. My parents bought me a set of encyclopedias when I was 8 Smile.

I want to know about the battery and Brillo trick!

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/05/2018 10:12

In fact, 'There's no such thing as useless knowledge' would be a great thread. How about it Disgrace?

Corneliasedet · 12/05/2018 10:28

I bloody love checking for the monthly updates. It makes me so happy. My DF is a duffer and a bit of a stinker. I wish my DCs had a DGF like you Disgrace.

Admirably ferocious parenting from DD and DSIL. DD has got him to stop doing dangerous stuff by counting to three, and he stops after two. DSIL has taught him wrestling submission taps, and gives him 30 second naughty steps for continuing the torture. All done in cheerful tones which brook no opposition. May I be forgiven, but when DD said "I'm not having him becoming a little shit like I was" I laughed like a hyena.

Nine months old. He can now climb the stairs (with a spotter), emits a truly horrifying stench when fed baked beans, and likes growling demonically.

Aaaaaw, he's doing so well. Stenches all good Grin

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 28/05/2018 07:41

He's the most active baby I've ever met. Unless he's eating or sleeping, he scrambles about the house chattering, with an unerring instinct for dangerous things like stairs, the gas fire (which has to be taken apart because he posted a piece of paper into it) and the cupboard under the sink. We think he'll be walking before his birthday. His appetite is huge though: dinner yesterday was a whole baked potato, 4 ounces of beans and an ounce of cheese followed by a fruit pouch. Then he got an empty biscuit tin and bashed it until our eardrums hurt. How he laughed at our expressions!

I love these updates Disgrace. What a totally splendid child he is!

Not long now before you'll be able to take him out for walks and poking-things-with-sticks!

iklboo · 28/05/2018 11:10

He's utterly adorable and a credit to you and your family. Smile

Aw my own dear grandpa died a few weeks ago at almost 96yo and this thread is making me cry, but in a happy way.

What a lucky wee baby x

Tiddlywinks63 · 28/05/2018 17:15

I didn't have grandparents who engaged with me, more like a frigid tolerance although my paternal GM was more friendly.
I'm determined to be a hands on GM to my DGSs, as much as I am allowed 😄
Your DGS is a charmer op!

olderthanyouthink · 29/05/2018 07:40

Aww this is just so wonderful 😍

harrietm87 · 29/05/2018 08:11

I never met my grandfathers - would have wished for one like you.

My 5 week old is sleeping on my chest and hoping he is loved by his grandparents as much as your little grandson is.

Ohb0llocks · 29/05/2018 08:19

You sound like such an awesome dad/grandad ❤️

My maternal grandpa died when I was 3 months old. My grandma says I was the first baby he wasn't scared to hold, and he used to poke me and wake me up. She said it's like he knew he didn't have much time with me, and my paternal grandpa has always been in Ill health.

He's a lucky little boy ❤️

LoveInTokyo · 29/05/2018 08:30

Wow @ this thread. Smile

Oh my goodness, how have I never seen this thread before??

My dad died when my two were 3 and 5 and DH's when they were 11 and 8 so had a little time with their grandads who were both amazing and loved the very bones of them. I miss them both, not just for me but for my kids as it's a most special relationship.

Disgrace you are all so blessed to have each other, your little lad is beautiful. This is def on my 'watch' list now.

WittyWithWine · 01/06/2018 23:20

Bless our beautiful grandchildren

This is such a glorious thread ❤️

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 06/06/2018 01:00

He's been christened. A jolly occasion, during which he pulled a hank of DD's hair out and waved it triumphantly, returned the congregation's applause, and tried to climb into the font. How he loves an audience!
