I just fancy a laugh and there's a lot of traffic here. So...mine is that on DD1's first birthday, I made the entire room sing Happy Birthday to her in a WHISPER so that she wouldn't be scared by all the loud singing. Blush

And they all did it too! Grin Bless them.

Now you!

Cherry
If your DC1 is anything like mine, DC2 will have to go everywhere with you to prevent loving suffocation!
I didn't think I was too PFB although I didn't allow sweets or juice until after 1.

DH put no more tears shampoo in his eyes to check if it hurt as DD was screaming while I washed her hair. Grin

Marmalade85 · 03/12/2016 13:37

She is also taking 2 years maternity as she can't believe that anyone else could possibly look after her child and she also took a spare phone battery when she came to the pub for a rare hour 'just in case'. He can't be pushed in a swing in case he hurts himself and she also wouldn't do anything a day before 3 months, 6 months etc as stated in guidelines.

HeyRoly · 03/12/2016 13:45

Ohhh, SIDS advice has a lot to answer for.

(Disclaimer: I followed SIDS guidelines and always put my babies to sleep on their backs and they slept in our room past six months).

It's just a bit ripe for PFB interpretation. I've read posters on MN describe their evenings thus:

Put baby to bed
Sit in dark bedroom all evening while baby sleeps
Text DH to take over when they need to go to the bathroom

That is NOT following SIDS guidelines, that is insane. Granted, there's a lot we don't understand about SIDS, but your baby isn't going to die because you left them unattended to have a wee. But because "I wouldn't forgive myself if anything happened" we have this very literal and martyr-ish following of guidelines. I actually find it quite upsetting to hear people doing this to themselves when it's so unnecessary.

Guarantee it won't happen with baby #2 though.

When we were clearing pils house, in the attic is my dhs, pram, cot, clothes, bottles, all in imaculate still with original boxes!
mother and baby magazines with some really mental advice in, that I imagine was taken as gospel. Also a TWO YEAR diary of every nappy change, sleep, food.

neonrainbow · 03/12/2016 15:13

Can't stop laughing at the one who took her coat off Grin

emmyhNL · 03/12/2016 16:43

I read myself in a few of these!! We don't flush the toilet at night for fear of waking her up.

To be fair. She's a light sleeper and difficult to get back to sleep once awake.

MommaGee · 03/12/2016 16:53

Balance I bet they pram is awesome

Alabastard · 03/12/2016 17:54

The SIDS guidelines are there for a reason but some health visitors terrify first time mums with them. Mine told me to set an alarm to check in her every two hours. I was so tired!

ConvincingLiar · 03/12/2016 18:26

I warmed wipes in my bra and also hot water bottled the crib, but that was because I was trying to move a baby from my warm body to a cold bed.

jamaisjedors · 03/12/2016 19:09

I felt guilty about reading my book AND bf pfb so I used to read it out loud to him from it while breastfeeding... Shock
I had no idea what to do with myself on maternity leave and it never occurred to me to turn the telly on, I thought it would be harmful to DS.
Before ds2 I stocked up on box sets of Grey's anatomy and bf him on the sofa while watching TV solidly.
OTOH I still secretly worry that Ds2 is a screen addict because of that. Blush

myfriendnoel · 03/12/2016 21:17

Actually crying at 'take it then you little bastard' Grin

Lndnmummy · 03/12/2016 21:34

BlushBlush i am still in back seat in case my pfb "gets upset". He will be 5 in March!!Blush

Luckily I like Xmas Biscuit so feel free to send them my way

Soubriquet · 03/12/2016 21:49

I never did any of these PFB moments..

Does this make me more neglectful?

Love reading them though. Keep em coming Grin

MrsDustyBusty · 04/12/2016 13:51

I started taking daily selfies with mine and emailing them to her. I still do, because I'm worried that she'll feel like I started to care less about her at some point and just didn't bother.

We literally have a complete archive of every outfit she's ever worn.

Oysterbabe · 04/12/2016 14:11

DD is almost 1. I still sit in the back with her.

I posted one of these threads when she was newborn and I thought I was a bit over the top. Someone said they rubbed baby shampoo in their eyes to make sure it doesn't sting. After reading that I felt like a bad mum as it hadn't occurred to me so I had to do it next bath time.

RoystonVaseySmegHead · 04/12/2016 17:21

Oyster does it hurt?

Oysterbabe · 04/12/2016 18:27

No its fine. Smile

RandomDent · 04/12/2016 18:46

I told off a van driver for leaving his engine running while he made his delivery. What if the brake snapped, the van rolled down the hill and mounted the pavement at the exact point I was going past with the pram?

RandomDent · 04/12/2016 18:48

Oh god I've just remembered another. Blush I live in a small terraced house. Once I went to the kitchen to make a cuppa. Pfb was asleep in the lounge, six feet away. I set up the baby monitor. Grin

Cocolepew · 04/12/2016 19:15

Hopping that is hilarious Grin

FourKidsNotCrazyYet · 04/12/2016 20:24

I took my PFB to the doctors when he was 10 days old because he'd been screaming for over an hour and I thought the stress would give him a heart attack. Tbf the doctor was great and very reassuring. I also didn't bathe him for the first month DH had to do it because DS cried every time and I cried along with him!

KP86 · 04/12/2016 20:33

I'm still giggling about the layers one. So funny.

I'm quite sure we did some PFB things (I definitely remember that my child would be stopping milk bottles by 1yo, and eating 'normal' food), but none as a newborn that I can think of right now.

I was worse at being pregnant. Followed every single rule there was. Oh dear.

susannahmoodie · 04/12/2016 20:38

I used to get really paranoid about ds1's room being at the right temperature when he was tiny and would have nightmares about him overheating. One night I got myself worked up that he was too hot in a long sleeved vest so I CUT OFF THE SLEEVES whilst he was lying asleep in his cot....BlushBlushBlush

NothingMoreThanFelines · 04/12/2016 20:53

These are brilliant.

I remember madly googling whether it was safe for babies to nap in their baby gyms, because ours said "not to be used for sleeping" in the instructions and my little DD would occasionally fall asleep in hers during the day. I also quizzed friends with older children about it. They must have thought I was bonkers.

TKRedLemonade · 04/12/2016 21:35

I live in an apt, every day I moved their entire monitor system including apnoea mat into the living room Moses basket from their crib!! It's 8 feet away from the bedroom, just incase they would stop breathing when I was in the room with them and I wouldn't notice Hmm

Due number 2 very soon and laughed about it to OH who was genuinely puzzled why we wouldn't keep doing the same this time :)
