I just fancy a laugh and there's a lot of traffic here. So...mine is that on DD1's first birthday, I made the entire room sing Happy Birthday to her in a WHISPER so that she wouldn't be scared by all the loud singing. Blush

And they all did it too! Grin Bless them.

Now you!

I bought the super expensive super neurotic baby monitor with an under the mattress motion sensor pad to make sure PFB was still moving (whilst she was in the cot right next to me). I never used the motion pad because I was worried that the wire from it might strangle her...

The worst for DH was the time I made him clean the washing machine drum and drawer WITH A TOOTHBRUSH before I could wash PFB's clothes in it. I'm still grateful to him that he didn't leave me that day.

VikingLady · 11/12/2016 15:19

Erm, about the washing powder... I made (and still make) laundry gloop because cheap bio and non bio give my DCs a rash. My eldest is nearly 5.

I do wash DH'S stuff in value bio powder though!

RoystonVaseySmegHead · 11/12/2016 21:29

viking what exactly is laundry gloop...?

VikingLady · 12/12/2016 03:31

It turns up on thrift threads. It's home made washing liquid/jelly, made of soap and washing soda with essential oils added if you want a scent.

RaeSkywalker · 12/12/2016 06:35

PFB is 5 weeks old. I don't think we're too bad actually! We sleep with a gro light on so that we can do changes etc without waking him too much. My DM is obsessive about making people wash their hands before they hold him though.

One of my friends would invite us round for coffee and hold entire conversations without looking at us. This was because she had to be able to make eye contact with her PFB at any time they might happen to glance her way. If she didn't do this, they might grow up feeling insecure.

AudreyBradshaw · 12/12/2016 08:18

(( Hi Rae Hope all is well! Congratulations on MiniSkywalker! ))

frogsgoladidahdidah · 22/03/2017 19:03

I used to go and knock on the next door neighbours if I wanted to have a shower or brush my teeth whilst DH was at work, because PFB cried whenever I put him down.

For a month.

My neighbours clearly had the patience of saints!

leccybill · 16/10/2017 17:31

Just reigniting this thread because 1) it's funny, and 2) this:
At the library today, DD 7 getting a medal for the reading challenge. All crammed in like sardines to watch the presentation in a tiny room, I told DD to sit on my knee so others could sit (even though she's 7).
Row in front - a non-walking baby aged approx 12 months had its own seat, with both parents there and all 4 grandparents, two of whom had SLR long lens cameras. When baby's name was called, they all whooped and both nans cried.
What the actual? My eyes were boggling, couldn't believe it. Most pfb thing I've seen ever!

mammyoftwo · 16/10/2017 21:09

Grin that's fantastic!!!!

expat38matt · 18/10/2017 23:40

rented a house with a friend and their PFB. It was a bungalow so the bedroom was just off the living room where we were sitting. We had the video baby monitor on the whole time

sayyouwill · 23/10/2017 12:48

I was petrified of PFB overheating. I had 8 thermometers in the flat depending on where I usually sat. I also bought a groegg and grobags for DS and memorised the guidelines... to the point where I would get DH to quiz me on what he should be wearing depending on the temperature.

WheresYouWheelieBin · 26/10/2017 01:56

My SIL used to put my BIL into quarantine for a week after he came back from an overseas work trip because she was worried that he might have picked up some horrid foreign virus. He had to sleep and shower in the spare room and ensuite downstairs and stay down there by himself when he wasn’t at work. For a whole week. Every time he went overseas.

janaus · 28/10/2017 10:55

When PFB started crawling. (Yes 30+ years ago) I covered the living room carpet with huge bed sheets, so she wouldn’t get carpet burn. Funny, the next 2 survived without any dramas.

Usecoooomonsnse · 14/10/2021 14:36

Going by the other Zombie thread that’s been revived thought I would revive this one from the classics Smile

Usecoooomonsnse · 14/10/2021 14:36

@WheresYouWheelieBin probably good thing considering

Resurrecting this zombie because it's still, 6 years later, my favourite MN thread and deserves a little bump into active!

greenerfingers · 01/09/2022 15:25

So glad you resurrected it @DiscoBadgers. It's giving me a right tickle! Some of these are hilarious. I did the no sugar, screen time thing for the first year and think it was great but I don't know if I'll have the energy to do it for no.2. Still no McDonald's though as I despise feeding myself that processed crap let alone my little one. My pfb moment was definitely when I had to top up newborn with formula and I cried buckets BlushBlush. I don't know what I thought a few days of formula would do to his precious gut but it seems perfectly healthy and has tonnes of chocolate and ice cream piled into it all the time now Blush. I would also stand like a hawk when someone else held him at the beginning (again not sure what calamity I anticipatedConfused.. now I lovingly throw him to family whenever I can Grin).

Cherry
If your DC1 is anything like mine, DC2 will have to go everywhere with you to prevent loving suffocation!
I didn't think I was too PFB although I didn't allow sweets or juice until after 1.

DH put no more tears shampoo in his eyes to check if it hurt as DD was screaming while I washed her hair. Grin

Dad of year award- and curious to know we’re there no tears 😭

crazypants · 11/09/2022 11:00

Kept baby bouncer facing away from the tv as I didn't want baby to be overstimulated watching it.

Worked out the salt content in everything so it would take me a ridiculous amount of time doing the weekly shop.

Cried when baby was a newborn awake all night every night because I was so sad they might be bored/lonely. Sleep deprived but I wouldn't sleep if they were awake. Husband thought I was bonkers.

Used to take baby monitor even just going to the toilet/making a cup of tea etc throughout the day. I literally used to RUN up and down the stairs. I don't know whether I thought they were going to leap out of the Moses or something...!

Absolutely none of this applied with our second. 🤣
