Bicarbonate soda

It's cleans my oven along with white vinegar like new (and it was minging)

So I googled other uses for it and you can whiten and remove stains from teeth, so I decided to try it as I always get a stain on my bottom tooth (smoking and coffee) and I've tried everything to get it off inbetween dentist visits and ice just tried it and it's literally took the stain off in seconds!

Just thought I'd share the highlight of my night while everyone in here is in bed

I heard vinegar is great for taking the sting out of sunburn too, but have never tried it. I guess the spoon is the same idea as the hairdryer, but the dryer is way handier. My kids can do it to themselves when they've not a nasty one.

^got a nasty one

One of my more random Amazon orders has just been placed. I'm sadly excited I might be able to sort out the oven and shower grout. Would a BoS and bleach mix work on the mould in the joins of my upvc Windows too?

AGirlCalledJohnny · 07/07/2016 06:49

I think I saw something along those lines on Pinterest, if you have an account try the search option.

PlugUgly · 07/07/2016 07:04

PLEASE DONT USE IT ON YOUR TEETH!!!!
I did a few times and my dentist said it had caused tiny holes in the enamel that then absorbed stains (from curry for example) like a sponge, I ended up having to have VENEERS!!!!

Just seen a video on FB for white canvas trainers

In a bowl mix bicarbonate, water and hydrogen peroxide into a slightly runny paste put all over trainers with a toothbrush give 2 coats
Put the laces in the remaining paste
Put shoes out in the sun for few hours then bang together to get rid of majority of powder then with a dry brush, brush the remaining powder off.... They were gleaming white

I'm going to try this with kids converse!!

But where would I get hydrogen peroxide the chemist??

I am surprised to see so many mixes of BiCarb and vinegar. I thought on a chemical basis they cancelled each other out.

This ^
Vinegar is an acid and sodium bicarbonate a base; to mix them will lessen their efficacy.

Bof S is ok as part of a mixture to use on teeth; just don't dip your toothbrush in and use it raw!

I don't know nothing about science paranoid but it does work

I've found that a paste of bicarb and vinegar rubbed into an area of carpet where cat has weed and left to dry will draw out any lingering wee and kill the smell. When it's dry it can just be hoovered up. Has saved my carpet from my highly strung cat.

VermicularCanister · 08/07/2016 06:35

I use bicarb to clean wee stains off white plastic toilet seats. Had tried bleach and various bathroom cleaners without success. Bicarb on a cloth worked like magic, literally a quick wipe and they were sparkling white again.

PollyCazaletWannabe · 08/07/2016 06:51

My shoe cupboard is a bit stinky. Do you think leaving bicarb in the shoes overnight (then what do you do? Hoover or tip it out?) plus putting a bowl of bicarb in the cupboard would stop the smell, like it does in the fridge?

skivvywoman · 08/07/2016 09:24

Polly yeah that would work

VermicularCanister - surely the bicarb would leave scratches on the plastic?

Littlefatfroggy · 11/07/2016 05:24

Buy 15kg sacs at the vets. Farmers use it for gassy cows.

EasilyDistracted77 · 18/07/2016 15:36

Just to say you can buy both white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda in bulk packs at Chinese supermarkets, if you are fortunate enough to have one near by.

I use both for lots of things, but have not tried the oven thing yet: going to give it a go later :-)

This thread has sent me off on a BoS frenzy!! I have a horrible white plastic kitchen sink which is 20 years old and no matter how much I scrubbed I couldn't get clean.

But I made a paste of BoS and bleach and put it round the edges - pic shows before and after!

But be careful too because I got a splodge on my top and within seconds it removed the colour!
