Bicarbonate soda

It's cleans my oven along with white vinegar like new (and it was minging)

So I googled other uses for it and you can whiten and remove stains from teeth, so I decided to try it as I always get a stain on my bottom tooth (smoking and coffee) and I've tried everything to get it off inbetween dentist visits and ice just tried it and it's literally took the stain off in seconds!

Just thought I'd share the highlight of my night while everyone in here is in bed

I hadn't heard of ecoeggs betty. I've now got the wash and dryer ones in my amazon basket, thanks for the tip.

Memoires · 04/07/2016 22:48

MsAdorabelleDearheartvonLipwig, would you come back and let us know if that worked - the thick layer for a few hours/overnight? The glass door of my oven is in a sad state...

selsigfach · 05/07/2016 00:47

Rub a Fairy liquid Blob and dash of bicarb on stained clothes before putting into the wash. I also use an eco egg and when washing nappies add a teaspoon of bicarb to the wash - fantastic at sanitising them. Apparently it's great for treating thrush too, not tried that one yet.

selsigfach · 05/07/2016 00:51

I've done the oven thing but thought I'd help it work better by turning up the temperature. My paste ended up getting cooked on! All the ming came off but was a bit burnt chalky for a while. Must do it again! Everyone needs a silicone oven liner.

sueelleker · 05/07/2016 06:47

Euphemia; please note, soda crystals are not the same as sodium bicarbonate. Don't try using them for the other suggestions.

suspiciousofgoldfish · 05/07/2016 07:28

This thread has changed my life.

AvaLeStrange i have a tendency to skim read everything and I missed out the word 'bath' on your post. I was a bit Hmm. Wondered why other posters hadn't mentioned it Grin

I am doing the toothpaste thing this morning. Very excited!

If I could be bothered I would do the oven thing too but it's more important to have nice teeth than it is to have a clean oven, IMO.

Buddahbelly · 05/07/2016 07:37

As much as I love bos, I must warn you all to be careful. Like someone else said before this is my worktop. I had some bos and vinegar in a bowl. Must have spilt a bit and not cleared it up.

And this was the result the next morning. It's faded the colour but also corroded it and bubbled up. Luckily it's in a corner so we can hide it with the fruit bowl but just be careful when using it.

Kimbrookes85 · 05/07/2016 08:01

Silly question if it's good for removing stains on teeth won't it discolour carpets etc?

Nivea101 · 05/07/2016 08:41

Loving this thread and am off to buy some today as my oven is a shocker, some great tips on here. I'll report it too so it stays on here. Thanks OP.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 05/07/2016 09:27

I've just scraped the BoS/bleach mix off the oven door glass and it hasn't touched it. I'm clearly such a slattern my oven door is past rescue. Blush

DailyMailEthicalFail · 05/07/2016 10:52

Oh, I've been waiting for a thread like this. FAB Grin

BeautyQueenFromMars · 05/07/2016 10:59

skivvy thank you, that's encouraging! I'll hunt out my pack of bicarb this weekend methinks.

Memoires · 05/07/2016 11:17

Oh that's a shame, MsA! I doubt that yours is worse than mine. I tried Oven Pride on mine a year or so ago, which was great on oven and shelves, but didn't help the door at all, far too far gone methinks Blush

Though if bos and vinegar can degrade a work top like it has buddahbelly's, it may still be strong enough if slapped on in sufficient quantity!

Oldraver · 05/07/2016 11:18

I wish I had known it would remove sticker residue before I bought a remover.

We were all high as kites for ages

skivvywoman · 05/07/2016 11:25

I'll try and find the before and after pics of my oven door let you all see

FeatherPillow - I did 5 loads this weekend (!) and they smell gorgeous and fresh - I bough the soft cotton scented one. It takes less time for them to wash too because the washing machine doesn't need to rinse suds out for half an hour. Mine is the 720 washes model so I've calculated that it should last me 5 years! So far, so good. Very pleased.

And that looks amazing Skivvy - really satisfying!

KatherineMumsnet · 05/07/2016 11:59

Hi folks - we're going to move this to Classics in a mo.

Jeanniejampots80 · 05/07/2016 12:02

BOS unfortunately was not strong enough for my oven door (may never have been cleaned) so tried a damp diswasher tab as a "cloth" instead, sparkling as new....just for others for whom BOS didnt work

middlings · 05/07/2016 12:18

Fontella I have full on goblin feet - I'm definitely going to give that a go.

I love bicarb but have never used it on myself!

mrsmiggins6 · 05/07/2016 12:23

I stopped using shampoo 2 years ago and only use bicarb now to wash my hair. it's awesome. hair has never looked better.

skivvywoman · 05/07/2016 12:42

Mrs how do you wash your hair with it??
Like does it foam up?

Comingfoccacia · 05/07/2016 16:34

FaithAscending · 05/07/2016 17:31
