Knowing a system (or not) is very different to not knowing that George Bush Snr and George W Bush are two different people.

I only have a very vague understanding of the system, but I know all of the presidents who've served during my lifetime.

Sandinmytoes · 22/03/2016 22:37

Loving this thread !

lostincumbria · 22/03/2016 22:38

Who the HELL is Dubya?

PurpleDaisies · 22/03/2016 22:38

Lincoln, Kennedy, Garfield, Reagan but he survived one other but I've forgotten who Jackson, maybe?

Think it's McKinley. I'd forgotten Garfield.

Lynnm63 · 22/03/2016 22:38

The old joke with bill and Hillary was he said if you hadn't met me what would you be and she replies First Lady of the United States. Suggesting he was only president because of her.

Heifer · 22/03/2016 22:38

To be fair to the Op - I can almost understand that someone may not know the American System - but I'm still smirking at the Bush Father & Son V Clinton Mr & Mrs situation

Owllady · 22/03/2016 22:38

:o at the shame and explanations

Lynnm63 · 22/03/2016 22:39

You're right Purple I always remember Garfield because I loved Garfield the cat as a teenager.

PurpleDaisies · 22/03/2016 22:40

I remember McKinley because I looked him up when I used to watch Glee. Blush

GiddyOnZackHunt · 22/03/2016 22:40

Cumbria sorry, Dubya is George W Bush (the younger one,) after the Texan style pronunciation of the W.

EverySongbirdSays · 22/03/2016 22:41

Shock - can't quite believe this thread to be honest, surely this is some kind of expert level trolling on the part of OP??!!

Have you ever googled the coincidences between the Lincoln and Kennedy assassinations it's quite strange.

RustyBear · 22/03/2016 22:42

So does anyone know, without googling, how many British Prime Ministers have been assassinated in office?

RudeElf · 22/03/2016 22:42

George dubya Bush (wee bush)

mummytime · 22/03/2016 22:42

The better twitter exchange was Bill Clinton asking Michelle Obamam if #FLOTUS tag went with the person or the job (FLOTUS stands for First Lady of the US).

I could tell you quite a bit about Hollande, including who had been the previous Socialist candidate for President (his ex-partner and mother of his children). Or What subject Merkel had her degrees in.
And I even remember vaguely Justin Trudeau's Dad.

I am pretty hopeless on Australia though (they seem to have changed them so often I've lost track), and I don't have much idea of New Zealand.

We do have dynasties in the UK, just they don't often get to be PM (the Benn's for example).

Owllady · 22/03/2016 22:42

Don't forget odie

mummytime · 22/03/2016 22:43

I British PM assassinated I think.

lorelei9 · 22/03/2016 22:44

Mummy, that's the Twitter exchange I linked to...?

lurked101 · 22/03/2016 22:44

I got ALL of the tongue in cheek stuff... still don't think its snide if this is genuine.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 22/03/2016 22:44

Rusty, just one I think in 1812?
Castlereagh and Canning had a duel but nobody died.

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/03/2016 22:45

Cumbria is taking the piss, big time. GrinGrinGrin

lorelei9 · 22/03/2016 22:45

Oh wait, there was a separate one ? Maybe I need to go to bed ...

Lynnm63 · 22/03/2016 22:45

One isn't that why the distance between the front benches is longer than a sword length so they can't be run through with a sword or am I just fantasising about someone taking out Tory front bench Grin

RudeElf · 22/03/2016 22:45

If Hill Clinton becomes president does that make Bill FLOTUS? Confused FManOTUS? Gentleman?

lurked101 · 22/03/2016 22:46

Oh and Spencer Perceval (sp?) was the PM assasinated. By a guy waiting in the house of commons Lobby.
