There is a tiny elderly Korean lady in my garden and I want to go out.

Sold our summerhouse on gum tree. Dude came to look at it this morning about 9am, paid and was back by 11 to dismantle it. DH all togged up to assist but the guy politely and firmly refused as he wanted to take it apart himself so he could put it back together himself.

He pulled his van into our side return and installed a tiny elderly Korean lady (he is also Korean) on a deck chair on our patio.

He then spent an hour writing on every plank and taking 1500 photographs.

He then spent two hours peeling off the roof felt painstakingly. Korean lady has been to toilet twice. As far as I can see she is here for the day out.

However she has just been to the car and produced steaming hot noodles, broth and vegetables and they have had a lovely leisurely lunch on the patio.

He has just now resumed work and has actually started to remove the planks. Slowly. Methodically. I know because he has told me that there are 85 planks. Plus window. To removed and carry to car. DHs help has again been refused although he has taken matters into his own hands a bit and is carrying planks to car.

Elderly lady back on deck chair.

Help!! We want to go out and thought that this would take 2-3 hours max. It's been 4 and only the roof felt is off. We could lock the back door and leave them in the garden but what about elderly lady's toilet needs???? And water etc? They have a little tea break (from a flask) every now and then and have refused drinks but they must need water at some point.

Have only read the first and last page of this thread but love it already. Marking place to read on phone in bed tonight!

Lovely lovely thread OP. Your writing us gold.

Reminded me of my own tiny elderly Iraqi lady who lived next door to me when my sons were little . She had exactly the same demeanour you describe. Lived with her son and his family .Spoke no English but we managed just fine .Lots of food treats and the children adored her.Morning coffee invites were a lot of smiling and absolute calm . She loved to sit in my garden and watch the wee ones. The children were so well behaved despite language barrier . Her kindness shone .

The family were deported after the invasion of Kuwait. She came to my door the evening before with a basket of rice and dry foodstuffs ....her eyes streaming with tears . I still have the basket .
I think of them so much and wonder what happened to them on return to utter turmoil and war since.

Oh that's so sad :(

SecretWitch · 12/08/2014 03:48

I so do not want this thread to disappear. I want to read it over again when I'm having a bad day or simply wondering WHAT WOULD EKL DO?

KeatsiePie · 12/08/2014 05:15

I was too enthralled to even post while this was happening. Loved the updates. Boys I agree, you're a great writer!

A Serenity of EKLs, enrique?

Icelollycraving · 12/08/2014 11:13

Ahhhh op,you made it to classics :)
Now when do we get our [pink visor]?

AmyMumsnet · 12/08/2014 11:14

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all your nominations. We've now moved this to classics. If only EKL was here to accept the award .

[pinkvisor].

HesterShaw · 12/08/2014 11:21

So can someone clarify the pink visor emoticon? Is it when you're being all calm and zen and accepting?

WowserBowser · 12/08/2014 11:28

Yey! Classics!

A Serenity of EKLs, enrique?

I have a lump in my throat now though for the EIL Bassett Sad

ptumbi · 12/08/2014 12:54

Classics! Well, of course!

[pinkvisor] to all!

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 12/08/2014 13:50

Hester I would say also when you need a calm, steely look /need to channel your inner EKL to sort a situation with no fuss eg [pinkvisor] to the 12 year old refusing to go on holiday.

Yayy for Classics!

PlantsAndFlowers · 12/08/2014 14:39

A ZEN of EKL?

Tiredemma · 12/08/2014 14:53

brilliant thread

enriquetheringbearinglizard · 12/08/2014 15:07

A serenity of TEKLs
A ZEN of TEKLs
I also thought of
A calmness of TEKLs
and
An enigma of TEKLs

Whatever the collective noun should be, every town should have one Thanks
I wonder what our EKL is doing now?

enormouse · 12/08/2014 15:47

I like serenity

But I think enigma fits EKL very well too. She sounds very enigmatic. Who is she? Where did she come from? What is the source of her power? What's the secret ingredient in her noodle soup?

She leaves as enigmatically as she arrived, leaving only a £10 note and smiling faces.

Itsfab · 12/08/2014 18:16

Just cried over a sad story and I am sure EKL would have been on hand to offer a comforting hand

[pink visor]

Coumarin · 12/08/2014 21:41

Yy. I could do with EKL today. She'd sort me right out.

londonrach · 13/08/2014 17:23

Mnhq are we getting an ekl emotion...
