Oh do I have a new low in wedding poems for you...

Weddingpoet · 21/07/2014 09:43

This is so going to out me but I actually don't care. I went to a wedding this weekend. We had to buy our own evening meal and the invitation said "no presents please, cash gifts only". There was a wishing well at the reception to but cash into (ringing the bell as you did ). This morning I received this corker which, obviously, I needed to share with you at once...

Cash we asked for because cash we need
For our kitchen to proceed
Having checked our wishing well
We think some people might not have rung the bell.
If you’re one who has forgotten
Don’t sit at home feeling rotten
Just use the bank details at the end of this ditty
And you can still contribute to our kitchen kitty

If they were asked, it's not like they'd say no in the face of potential media interest.

fackinell · 27/07/2014 10:59

ShockJust caught up with the last few posts. I can't believe they've used that exact poem. Yup they need to pull the plug on this.

wantacatplease · 27/07/2014 11:10

Just read this in The Observer. Shock

ThePearShapedToad · 27/07/2014 11:11

Sorry op, was a brilliant thread till the journos ruined it Sad

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 27/07/2014 11:11

Bogey I thought they had copyright of the stuff on here and one of the MN staff was mentioned in the article. So is it true that any old hack can print anything we post without the permission of MN?

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/07/2014 11:14

Or mumsnet gave permission to up the advertising revenue.

I'd rather pay a tenner every year to join and have no ads and no journos outing people.

Lazy girl.

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 27/07/2014 11:17

I think it's ok if MN gave permission but it wouldn't have asking too much for them to just let the OP know so she could ask for her username on this thread to be changed. I'd have said that's just common courtesy tbh. Nasty manners MN.

fackinell · 27/07/2014 11:29

Does MN own the copyright? I have thought the owner of the post and each individual poster did (of their own words.) Either way if no permission was granted then isn't it considered plagiarism?

Thumbwitch · 27/07/2014 11:51

Right, I've reported every post that had the old name in - please no one use it now, and please MNHQ get on to changing the name in every post where it appears as quickly as poss, ta.
Thanks

cod · 27/07/2014 11:55

CHRIST OP
you need to get this nixed pronto.

cod · 27/07/2014 11:55

btw - Mn dont SEND this to journalists. They are just people. I know! They read mn

WallyBantersJunkBox · 27/07/2014 11:59

Fluffy Perhaps request that your post be removed also?

(and anyone else who named the OP?)

Would they be Guardian readers though?

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/07/2014 12:02

Done.

EllenMumsnet · 27/07/2014 12:03

Afternoon all. We've been in touch with Weddingpoet this morning, and are on the case

Thumbwitch · 27/07/2014 12:04

I've reported every post that had the old name in - no one needs to get their posts removed unless they want to - MNHQ can change the name within the posts.

Thumbwitch · 27/07/2014 12:05

xposted Ellen - cheers! ThanksBrewWine

Weddingpoet · 27/07/2014 12:27

Thank you to all those who PM'd me to warn me and to Thumbwitch for reporting all the posts with the original username in.

Thank you also to MN for changing my username to preserve the collective MN poetic brilliance.

OP posts:
PandasRock · 27/07/2014 12:29

Brilliant that your name has been changed in the thread, OP, but it still shows up in Active Convos as 'started by' your username. Iw I'll report this post to get MNHQ on the case

EllenMumsnet · 27/07/2014 12:31

Hi again
Just finished working through the lovely Thumbwitch's list of reports. Many, many thanks ThanksThanks to her. Will check out what Pandasrock has posted here, and get back shortly

Thumbwitch · 27/07/2014 12:34

Great job EllenMN - can you please reinstate my hidden post now, after you've changed the name in it, ta?

Thanks again and good save - it would have been such a shame to lose all the brilliant poems here!

RowanMumsnet · 27/07/2014 12:34

Hello

Just to clear up a couple of things: we took a deliberate decision NOT to publicise this thread on social media or in our Talk Round-Up, for the very reason that we thought it would be too identifying for the OP.

We also did not feed it to the press by any other means at all.

As others have said (and as we at MNHQ reiterate any chance we get), this is a public site; anything that's posted on here can be read by anyone, anywhere - and limited amounts can be copied and republished elsewhere under 'fair dealing' copyright rules.

As EllenMN says, we're in contact with the OP and are doing what we can to make the rest of her posting history entirely separate from this thread. We absolutely understand that this isn't something you'd want your family/friends recognising - which is why (to come full circle) we took a deliberate decision not to publicise it at the time despite it being absolutely corking

Thanks
MNHQ

EllenMumsnet · 27/07/2014 12:37

Thanks Rowan. Just to add that I've checked out what PandasRock has reported, and from this end the OP, as it now appears in Active Convos, is Weddingpoet, so looking watertight now Grin.

Thumbwitch, be delighted to reinstate your hidden post - any idea where you last saw it? Grin Grin

PandasRock · 27/07/2014 12:38

Erm, still appears under other name in my active convos (using Safari, on an ipad)

Thumbwitch · 27/07/2014 12:40

Ahahaha - it's just up there ^
Thumbwitch Sun 27-Jul-14 02:42:07
This post has been hidden until the MNHQ team can have a look at it.

Thank you Grin

EllenMumsnet · 27/07/2014 12:43

Righto.

Pandasrock - checking this out now.
