Oh do I have a new low in wedding poems for you...

This is so going to out me but I actually don't care. I went to a wedding this weekend. We had to buy our own evening meal and the invitation said "no presents please, cash gifts only". There was a wishing well at the reception to but cash into (ringing the bell as you did ). This morning I received this corker which, obviously, I needed to share with you at once...

Cash we asked for because cash we need
For our kitchen to proceed
Having checked our wishing well
We think some people might not have rung the bell.
If you’re one who has forgotten
Don’t sit at home feeling rotten
Just use the bank details at the end of this ditty
And you can still contribute to our kitchen kitty

Oh Wally - what must you think?
I came along and zapped your link
before I scrolled on down the screen
and saw what you did really mean.
(Although I must admit a deal
of thoughts 'long lines o' "Is this fuh real?")
I feel I must apologise
For moderating with closed eyes,
and hope this poem makes amends
So we may end as Mumsnet friends.

What rhymes with classics?*
Nothing. I'll do a haiku
You might not notice.

*I know there probably are lots of words but I am vair tired.

KateSMumsnet · 23/07/2014 12:09

@Thumbwitch

Hurrah! It's in Classics, fantastic! Thanks KateSMN Grin (nice haiku - can't think of much that rhymes with Classics except brassic, which might have been appropriate! Grin)

of course!

This thread is now a Classic
Weddings can make you brassic
Something something something
And dinosaurs belong to the period Jurassic.

Perfect.

Afternoon all. We've been in touch with Weddingpoet this morning, and are on the case

EllenMumsnet · 27/07/2014 12:31

Hi again
Just finished working through the lovely Thumbwitch's list of reports. Many, many thanks ThanksThanks to her. Will check out what Pandasrock has posted here, and get back shortly

RowanMumsnet · 27/07/2014 12:34

Hello

Just to clear up a couple of things: we took a deliberate decision NOT to publicise this thread on social media or in our Talk Round-Up, for the very reason that we thought it would be too identifying for the OP.

We also did not feed it to the press by any other means at all.

As others have said (and as we at MNHQ reiterate any chance we get), this is a public site; anything that's posted on here can be read by anyone, anywhere - and limited amounts can be copied and republished elsewhere under 'fair dealing' copyright rules.

As EllenMN says, we're in contact with the OP and are doing what we can to make the rest of her posting history entirely separate from this thread. We absolutely understand that this isn't something you'd want your family/friends recognising - which is why (to come full circle) we took a deliberate decision not to publicise it at the time despite it being absolutely corking

Thanks
MNHQ

EllenMumsnet · 27/07/2014 12:37

Thanks Rowan. Just to add that I've checked out what PandasRock has reported, and from this end the OP, as it now appears in Active Convos, is Weddingpoet, so looking watertight now Grin.

Thumbwitch, be delighted to reinstate your hidden post - any idea where you last saw it? Grin Grin

EllenMumsnet · 27/07/2014 12:43

Righto.

Pandasrock - checking this out now.

Testing testing

RowanMumsnet · 27/07/2014 12:48

Hmmm erk. Not sure why that's happening - will see if we can rouse Tech. Might be best to lock this thread (so it stops appearing on Active) until we've worked it out.

RowanMumsnet · 27/07/2014 12:51

@TheOneWithTheNicestSmile

We also did not feed it to the press by any other means at all

But someone from MN is quoted in the piece so you did know in advance - it would have been considerate to alert the OP

Not sure how much we knew about the piece, or when the quote was given - will try to find out (although the MNHQer quoted is now on her honeymoon so there may be a short pause!)

RowanMumsnet · 27/07/2014 12:52

@EthicalPickle

Oh dear, I have just checked active convos too and can still see the old name too. Sad

Fear this may be a Tech glitch. Seems best to lock this thread until we've sorted it out - hope that's OK.

@AnnDaloozier

oh fgs Rowan!!

are you splitting an atom?

Hahahahaha. Writing proper code might as well be atomic physics for all I know

ANYWAY we think the glitch is fixed now, huzzah that only took two days

RowanMumsnet · 29/07/2014 11:29

On the quote (having looked into it): we gave a general comment to the Guardian about wedding gifts and the trend in asking for money, and what Mumsnetters thought of them. We were not asked about this specific thread. In hindsight though, we might have put two and two together, and given a heads up on this thread. Sorry about this - we will try to be more on the ball next time.
