got news today that I cant share with anyone - not my husband, not my children, not my staff, not my team mates, not my parents, not my best friends - it will have significant impact stuff - I cant talk about it and its made me fairly miserable - awfully miserable - I am red eyed and in a bad mood

so .... give it to me ... you best Annie impression of the Sun Coming Out Tomorrow, Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, or some quote about there being a silver lining in every cloud

Go on, hit me with it, do you best, because today cant get much worse ... I think

Very true Kate! If there were snakes, I guess at least I wouldnt be being eaten by a tiger. (If I was being eaten by both snakes and a tiger, I feel the time for positive and inspirational quotes has passed and a bloody great big stick would be more useful)

Ok, worst thing said to me was: I don't know what to say. I'm so glad it's not me!Shock. At least she was honest!

Sayings that make me feel (a bit) better: No doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.... It's not what happens that is important but how you deal with it (Only makes me feel better in certain situations!)
Hope you are getting through ok LadyCC

Wonderful thread to read while unable to sleep. Inspired me to look at my list that I refer back to in difficult times. Some of my favourites, songs as well as quotes are:

“All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle.”
? St. Francis of Assisi,

“First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win.”
? Mahatma Gandhi

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”
? Winston S. Churchill

It’s going to be alright. Maybe not today, but someday.

“Just when you think it can't get any worse, it can. And just when you think it can't get any better, it can.”
? Nicholas Sparks

It's all just people talking
Does it really matter what they say?
Whatever gets you through the day
That's your way

  • Lighthouse Family

As time goes by reality
Destroys your hope and dignity
There's nothing left but shadows on the wall
But just remember who you are
And where you've been you've come so far
And never ever let them see you fall
  • OMD

Hold up... hold on... don't be scared
You'll never change what's been and gone
Cos all of the stars are fading away
Just try not to worry you'll see them some day
-Oasis

Also love Desiderata and the poem posted by EasterSundaySimmons is beautiful.

Hope it will all be alright for you soon OP Thanks

Failure isn't falling down. It's not getting back up again

It seems to say it all in virtually any circumstance to me.

Read this very many years ago in a book and keep a scrap of paper in my purse for those occasions where I either can't articulate or like the OP can't discuss.

But to the lonely
is not to be unloved,
but only to learn the value of love-
and that it takes many forms,
and is sometimes hard to recognise.

Lovely, lovely thread.

Weep You No More, Sad Fountains

Weep you no more, sad fountains;
What need you flow so fast?
Look how the snowy mountains
Heaven's sun doth gently waste.
But my sun's heavenly eyes
View not your weeping,
That now lies sleeping
Softly, now softly lies
Sleeping.

Sleep is a reconciling,
A rest that peace begets:
Doth not the sun rise smiling
When fair at even he sets?
Rest you then, rest, sad eyes,
Melt not in weeping,
While she lies sleeping
Softly, now softly lies
Sleeping.

I'm sorry I'm late to the party - I just stumbled across this in classics.

I'm going through a bit of a shit time at the mo too. Other people have added my favourite quote, but I didn't see any harm in saying it again: "It's always darkest before the dawn." Think it's actually an old proverb, but I first heard it when Florence sang it!

I'm going to adopt some of the others myself. I love "chuck it in the fuck it bucket"!!! Particularly applies to work Grin

Hope things are looking brighter for you, OP.

Read a nice thing online the other day, something along the lines of, if something suddenly goes to shit, just yell "PLOT TWIST!" carry on

Sorry this is a bit late for OP, hopefully things are much better now, but my husband always says:

most things in life don't matter that much, and the rest don't matter at all

I've always liked Hilaire Belloc:

From quiet homes and first beginning,
Out to the undiscovered ends,
There's nothing worth the wear of winning,
But laughter and the love of friends.

This is kinda cheesy but there's a Shaggy song that really helped me though a very tough time and there seemed no end to it all...best lines from the choruses that helped me to 'keep on keeping on'. The brighter tomorrow came. They do, in time.

Gotta big up all my peoples who be working on the future
Though they know they gotta struggle
To all my homies working on the 9 to 5
And doing right to keep themselves up out of trouble
Although sometimes I know it seems impossible
There ain't no need in drowning in your sorrows
If things are as bad as they can be
You can be sure there'll be a brighter tomorrow

All the harsh realities
Appears to come in two's and Three's
Don't worry cause
There'll be a better day
One thing I can promise you
Just keep on keeping on
I swear to you
There's gonna be a brighter day

Remembering this has helped me through a lot of hard times.
