got news today that I cant share with anyone - not my husband, not my children, not my staff, not my team mates, not my parents, not my best friends - it will have significant impact stuff - I cant talk about it and its made me fairly miserable - awfully miserable - I am red eyed and in a bad mood

so .... give it to me ... you best Annie impression of the Sun Coming Out Tomorrow, Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, or some quote about there being a silver lining in every cloud

Go on, hit me with it, do you best, because today cant get much worse ... I think

This by Felix Dennis

Not all things go wrong, and knowing
This, be wary of despair,
As you go through hell — keep going,
Make no brave oasis there.

Through the shadowlands of grieving,
Past the giants, Doubt and Fear,
Heartsick, stunned, and half believing —
Heed no whisper in your ear.

Not all things go wrong — and after
Winter’s famine comes the spring,
Kindness, beauty, children’s laughter —
Joy is ever on the wing.

For me embracing the good things was hard after a long period of awfulness, or even seeing any good things amongst all the awful stuff happening. This poem and Invictus (posted up thread) has kept me going. Also of course the 'this too shall pass' mantra.

"After the darkness, light"

"Happiness can be found, in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light"

And one that I can't remember the exact wording but basically "your record for getting through shit days so far is 100%. That's not bad" Smile

From my favourite film, Shakespeare in Love. I love the blind optimism.

Henslowe: It will all turn out well.
Fennyman: How?
Henslowe: I don't know. It's a mystery.

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

It is what it is.

Twill all come out in the wash.

BlueJean · 17/05/2014 23:54

Every so often I like to watch again.

I find it it usually puts things into perspective .

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 18/05/2014 00:06

The only way out is through.

The trick is to keep breathing.

Don't let the bastards grind you down.

This too shall pass.

Enfin, du courage!

HamAndPlaques · 18/05/2014 00:07

This thread is fantastic.

OP, I appreciate that you might have posted in chat so that it would disappear but with your permission I'd like to nominate it for classics.

isshoes · 18/05/2014 00:22

I too love Desiderata for this, but also Dire Straits said it quite nicely: "Why worry? There should be laughter after pain. There should be sunshine after rain. These things have always been the same. So why worry now?"

Don't Give Up

In this proud land we grew up strong
We were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail

No fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I've changed my face, I've changed my name
But no one wants you when you lose

Don't give up
'cause you have friends
Don't give up
You're not beaten yet
Don't give up
I know you can make it good

Though I saw it all around
Never thought I could be affected
Thought that we'd be the last to go
It is so strange the way things turn

Drove the night toward my home
The place that I was born, on the lakeside
As daylight broke, I saw the earth
The trees had burned down to the ground
Don't give up
You still have us
Don't give up
We don't need much of anything
Don't give up
'cause somewhere there's a place
Where we belong

Rest your head
You worry too much
It's going to be alright
When times get rough
You can fall back on us
Don't give up
Please don't give up

'got to walk out of here
I can't take anymore
Going to stand on that bridge
Keep my eyes down below
Whatever may come
And whatever may go
That river's flowing
That river's flowing

Moved on to another town
Tried hard to settle down
For every job, so many men
So many men no-one needs

Don't give up
'cause you have friends
Don't give up
You're not the only one
Don't give up
No reason to be ashamed
Don't give up
You still have us
Don't give up now
We're proud of who you are
Don't give up
You know it's never been easy
Don't give up
'cause I believe there's the a place
There's a place where we belong

LadyCybill, my dad (2x Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma survivor) always says:
'When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.'

Sending warm thoughts to you for the best outcome possible. And some to others reading who are going through similar - I have a feeling there will be legions.

(This thread is reminding me why I love MN so very very much. Our tribe of all these wise, loving, big sisters, aunts, mums and grandmas out there in the ether, who put out a paw when you feel like you can't go on.)

Acunningruse · 18/05/2014 22:02

Everything will be alright in the end. if it is not alright, it is not the end.

This saying gave me hope when we had been trying to conceive for 18 months. I was pregnant soon afterwards.

Antiopa12 · 18/05/2014 22:27

"Here Comes The Sun" - The Beatles/Abbey Road

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it's all right

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it's all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it's all right

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes

Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it's all right
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
It's all right, it's all right

Today is going to be a...less bad day. I can feel it.
Sometimes I wake up and know everything is going to be...less bad"

lavenderhoney · 18/05/2014 23:39

I would also suggest op, you post on mn , and nc if you like, on relationships or chat, and talk it through. Its a fantastic help having mn. You can also pm your favourite posters and ask them to contribute.

I hope things are better for you Thanks

CaptChaos · 18/05/2014 23:51

I love the Blessed Mother Julian's, all shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well. I have it on my fridge.

When things are crappy, I do find myself singing 'just keep swimming, just keep swimming'.

My DGF used to tell me that I had the brains and the strength to get through anything.

I do hope things are looking better for you tonight.

EATmum · 18/05/2014 23:55

My quote is from Judy Blume, and I had it written on my wall during my formative years. "You can't go back. Not ever. You have to pick up the pieces and keep moving ahead." Clearly doesn't suit all situations, but thought I'd share. OP I hope you have someone you can talk this all through with openly.

LadyCybilCrawley · 19/05/2014 05:47

Thanks all - there are some truly fabulous lines here - am reading over and over again

Thanks to those who have offered to talk - but the internet is forever and I legally can't talk about jack - it sucks - but id do more damage to others by talking than I do to myself by not talking if that makes sense

Some of these lines are perfect GrinGrin You are all marvelous
