  1. Have smeared the twins' cradle cap liberally with rapeseed oil, left, combed through, left Dentinox on in the bath for ten mins, rinsed through, and it all came off in big satisfying clumps. I got a bizarre amount of pleasure from this.

  1. I bit the bullet and got Plumbs round to reupholster my awkwardly shaped sofa and it's gorgeous! And the covers are just about less tricky to take on and off than a sleeping bag is to put back in its bag IYKWIM and they're machine washable. I, embarrassingly, may have punched the air. I need to get out more.

  1. Storing complete bedding sets inside one of the pillow cases has led to uncrumpled sheets and duvets that MATCH.

  1. Tomatoes out of the fridge are sweet and juicy.

MammaTJ, thanks for the swede tip. What do you mean by "score around" it?

Great thread ! Would the patio top work on decking? Ours gets very sloppy when wet.

Yes washing powder works on decking ( found out when I had nothing else) throw it on when it's raining hard and go scrub with a stiff brush. We have a north facing deck which would be lethal without cleaning.

My favourite Mumsnet tip is ironing collars with the hair straighteners. Mine always get flattened in the wardrobe so I just do them in about half a minute instead of getting ironing board out!

Cerisier I never knew that. Genius, thank you.

OP would you mind pming me your upholstery costs too please. We have a sofa which would look great if we could get it recovered, but I'm a bit Confused about the price of getting it done after spending a small fortune having an antique chair reupholstered by an antique restorer a couple of years ago (sofa is not antique though although it looks so battered it might be mistaken for being that old ).

Reastie · 07/04/2014 18:46

we don't own an iron and I've just bought a new dress which looks like it will need ironing. I'm dashing off to see if I can get away with using straighteners Blush

Test a patch of that dress first - as a long term user of straighteners to iron clothes I've found to my cost that sometimes they're too hot and burn / split the fabric.

Has anyone seen the Martha Stewart method of peeling a whole bulb of garlic? There's a video of her doing it, but simply, put bulb in a small metal bowl, make a lid out of a second metal bowl (easier if second bowl smaller), then shake LOTS. Then shake a bit more. Hey presto - whole bulb peeled.

sweet that is the best tip ever! How much did you squeeze down the drain and how long did you leave it before flushing water through?

I've just dishwasher-tabletted my oven door and it is a lovely shiny see-through thing again Grin

Report
CountessOfRule · 07/04/2014 19:35

Please! How! Make a paste from dishwasher tablet then smear it on?

The last lot we got are posh clever ones with chambers Hmm (DH shopped that week, clearly) - do I need a totally solid one?

Report
Mothergothel99 · 07/04/2014 19:52

I made a paste smeared it on, them scrubbed ith e cloth. Then soaked a tab until soft but still solid. Then scrubbed with it. Again lots of wiping.

Reastie, I've had half a bottle of veet sat in the bathroom for months so I just used that up, left it for 20 mins or so and then poured a kettle's worth of boiling water down it and hey presto clear

These are ace! Shamelessly marking place so I don't loose the thread.
