hoarseoldfrog · 05/02/2014 07:41

For Cornish people - flying dodo jumpers. Whatever happened to them?
Playing bamboozle quiz on ceefax
Baked bean pizzas
Memorising my phonecard number so I could use the payphones for free to call my parents to pick me up
Massive baggy check trousers
The sunscreen song

conquistador · 05/02/2014 07:45

Alan Partridge
Push Pops
Shag bands, or was that just my school? (those thin stretchy plastic bands worn round the wrist.....apparently if a boy managed to pull one off your arm they got to shag you)

KellyElly · 05/02/2014 10:07

I'd forgotten all about Point Horror books!

I remember thinking I was the bees knees when I got a strappy black jersey dress with a fluffy heart on the front from Topshop. I wore it over a tight white t shirt with knee high socks and platform trainers. I was about 13 Grin

Does anyone else remember Pizza Rollers? They were round pizza dough with the pizza topping inside where it caused 1st degree burns when you bit into them. They were ace.

Also Benetton bags were the only bag to have at school. I had a lovely navy blue one.

5p jamborees at school at break time.

£5 getting me 10 consulate, 4 pack of hooch and a cone of chips on a Friday night in the park Grin

ProfondoRosso · 05/02/2014 10:36

Oh Point Horror! I LOVED them.

The Babysitter, Freeze Tag... I can't think of any more right now.

I remember they brought out an offshoot called Point Horror Unleashed. They were scary. I don't know anyone who read Point Romance. Point Romance was lame.

Latara · 05/02/2014 10:42

I remember Benetton bags, I had a pale pink one.

Also the Prodigy 'Out of Space' and all the proper old school music.

vladthedisorganised · 05/02/2014 11:24

YY to Dewberry and White musk.
The NME
Buying very obscure indie music on vinyl from proper record shops
Being snobby about Take That
Select magazine
Jungle
Big cardigans
Combat trousers and very small T-shirts
Multiple ear piercings
New Wave of New Wave
Camden Market
Doc Martens/ Converse
Boys with long hair
Rage Against the Machine
Army surplus bags and shirts
Stripy tights
Road protests

It was a fun time for me.

ManateeEquineOHara · 05/02/2014 11:43

What was the thing with the giant bird I. The sky and Ulrica Johnson!? That was v 90s to me (maybe already mentioned but haven't read whole thread) Also:

Heartbreak High
Ricky Lake
Roseanne
Friends
Jarvis Cocker
Blur/oasis (obv)
Spice Girls overkill
Top 40 on local radio w 'Dr Fox' and recording it to tape.
Spira chocolate (or maybe it was called spiral...hmm)
Coloured mascara/sun in/skirt over trousers look (I also did a version of this that was a scarf tied around my waist/hips Confused).
Neverwhere on TV and therefore discovering Neil Gaiman as my then (and now) fave author.
Also for me browsing for vinyl records of the Bob Dylan/Rolling Stones type in the local junk shop but I was an odd teenager Grin

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2014 11:48

The dove from above on Shooting Stars Manatee.

vladthedisorganised · 05/02/2014 11:54

Rise of Tony Blair and death of Princess Diana

NoArmaniNoPunani · 05/02/2014 12:03

The girlie show on channel 4
Biggie and Tupac and all the east coast/west coast battles in hip hop

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/02/2014 12:04

Go Ricky Go Ricky Go Ricky.

Think I still have a mood ring somewhere.

They played the sunscreen song on radio 1 about a year ago. Made me feel ancient. All these teens phoned in to say how amazing it was and how they'd never heard it before.

pleasesleepallnight · 05/02/2014 12:26

Goosebumps books and Bubble Bags!

littlebluedog12 · 05/02/2014 12:28

Ooh jas anyone mentioned Streetmate?

notso · 05/02/2014 12:35

Yes poppiesway that's the one. I bet her eyes were rolling right out of her head and her judgey pants were under her armpit!

Mood rings, my Dad used to look at mine and everytime say
"is that the colour for Mardy"
and I would holler the classic "Daaaaa-duh" Grin

yolothankgod · 06/02/2014 00:49

little I completely forgot about the book i must of read it a zillion times as well

ShadowsCollideWithPeople · 06/02/2014 02:28

I turned 12 in '96 (but had been in to Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies, Mudhoney and RHCP for years, thanks to my older sister).

I remember:

Loving 'The Girl From Mars', 'Oh Yeah' and 'Uncle Pat' by Ash.
Coveting a pair of Adidas Gazelles and finally buying them with my Confirmation money.
Living in Docs, flared cords, baby t-shirts and velvet blazers
My So Called Life
Being in love with Jordan Catalano (I have My So Called Life on DVD and still watch it regularly)
CK One
Mabelline Great Lash mascara
Bonnie Bell lip smackers
Buying Silk Cut Purple in packs of 10 and smuggling matches out of the house in my sock
Getting my bellybutton pierced at 12 and being the envy of my friends
Dark brown lipliner with beige lipstick
Listening to 'From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah' over and over.
Wearing a long swishy skirt, crushed velvet blouse, velvet blazer and holographic Doc's for my Confirmation and scandalising the parents of all my friends who were wearing little dresses and pumps Grin

Bexicles · 06/02/2014 08:07

Shadows I had a velvet jacket...loved it!

sparklyskyy · 06/02/2014 09:54

Oh my god. This thread is making me so nostalgic i could cry!

Has anyone mentioned those dummy necklaces where you would wear loads of them at once? I remember my step mum saying that I would regret wearing them one day...

I always thought I had a rubbish time growing up, full of teenage angst, but this thread has made me remember a whole load of good times!

Yy to Point Horror! I loved those books. Oh oh! There was another set of books I loved too but can't remember the name! It was set in America somewhere, maybe four main characters? There was a Zoey, maybe Lucas, Ben who was blind and possibly Nina. Does anyone remember them??

BoodleDoo · 06/02/2014 10:10

Sparklyskyy, that was the 'making out' series! I think the first book (Zoey fools around) was free with bliss or one of those mags! I had the set up to about 24, then I sold them in bulk on eBay a few years ago. Still feel a bit if regret!
