Oh, and this thread should go in classics; it's amazing how much stuff I'd forgotten!

My favourite 90s memory was leaving primary school and having a party on the school field. We danced to 'meet the flinstones', ace of base and book shake the room!

KellyElly · 06/02/2014 10:27

Robin Hood Price of Thieves and the Bryan Adams song from it that was in the charts for like a gazillion weeks.

Boodle that's the one! I used to get the books from John Menzies as soon as they came out. I loved them, felt so grown up reading them after moving on from The Babysitters Club! Loved them too right enough along with Sweet Valley High. Sigh. Good times!

Tallalime · 06/02/2014 10:38

Ah flared cords - bought from the vintage department in Oxford Street Topshop.

And velvet blazers off the market.

I had Adidas Gazelles and Sambas I think. A suede pair and a leather pair.

Bexicles · 06/02/2014 10:44

I had a POP swatch watch, obviously worn on my school jumper rather than my wrist!

KellyElly · 06/02/2014 11:11

Adidas Gazelles and Sambas Loved them!

We had shag bands too! The different colours had different meanings IIRC.

Also blow up inflatable bags - does nobody remember them? I had a lurid orange one.

I loved Point Horror too.

KateSMumsnet · 06/02/2014 11:34

I once wore an entirely denim outfit on a non school uniform day. True child of the 90s.

I had a inflatable bag peppinagiro! If I actually tried to carry stuff around in it it broke Hmm

I also had an inflatable chair that I didn't dare put my full weight on. Ah, a simpler time.

KateSMumsnet · 06/02/2014 11:37

POINT HORROR! Did there used to be a Point Romance or have I made that up?

ProfondoRosso · 06/02/2014 11:39

I was just remembering a couple of my school disco outfits from the 90s - one was a white shirt with big flouncy cuffs, a black velour waistcoat and black velour jodhpurs. I thought I looked so great. Like Tasmin Archer or something. My best friend won a Denise Welch tape in a dance competition at that disco.

Another was a lilac velvet poloneck with high-waisted, baggy round the bum and nowhere else jeans from M&S, and my big, chunky Kickers school shoes.

ProfondoRosso · 06/02/2014 11:41

Yes, Point Romance was real, Kate, but it was for LOSERS. New Point Horrors were always very sought after in the library, but nobody wanted Point Romance. There were shitloads of them left! Grin

KateSMumsnet · 06/02/2014 11:47

ProfondoRosso Grin

Course I didn't read Point Romance Blush

I have just googled Point Horror and BLOWN MY MIND as some of them were written by R. L. Stine of Goosebumps fame Shock

Spacefrog35 · 06/02/2014 11:51

I still wear my sweater shop jumper Blush

Tallalime · 06/02/2014 11:58

I loved point horror - The Snowman, The Beach House, The Boyfriend.

They had such great titles Confused

And there was a compilation I think... 13 Tales of Horror.

I still have some, and my SV High Saga's, Forever by Judy Bloom and some terrible teen romances with girls in pastel jumpers and headbands on the covers.

KateSMumsnet · 06/02/2014 12:07

Point Horror were a heady mix of quite scary but also quite crap.

I remember wearing combat trousers to a school disco and feeling really cool because everyone else was wearing skowsers (the killer skirt/trouser combo)

ProfondoRosso · 06/02/2014 12:30

Tallalime, I loved the Sweet Valley Sagas. They were bloody mental - so many bloody twins in that family, all called Elizabeth and Jessica, or Elisabeth and Jessamyn or some crap. BRILLIANT.

I remember going to the cash and carry and getting a HARDBOUND Point Horror collection, featuring The Babysitter vols 1-3. Grin

thewalrus · 06/02/2014 13:27

Love this. Things that stick out for me:
Blastaways
Supergrass' 'All right' - our soundtrack of 1995, my first summer with my own car (a 2CV)
Everyone in our class at school getting a perm for their 13th birthday (1990)
Everyone in our class at school hoping that Jamie or Chris would ask them to dance when 'Nothing Compares 2 U' was played at the end of all the 13th birthday parties.
Sweet Valley High
Saved by the Bell
Neighbours and Home and Away

Things it's been good to be reminded of:
Heather Shimmer
White musk
Those silky slip dresses
Flying Dodo (I'm not Cornish, but now DH is, and his Flying Dodo stuff was the envy of much of our group of friends at university!)

RebeccaMumsnet · 06/02/2014 13:33

Brilliant thread, we have moved this to Classics now.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 06/02/2014 13:41

I still have my sweet valley saga's but gave away the rest of my collection to my younger cousin many years ago.

I also still have my little plastic dummies on a necklace.

Grin

I have some excellent photo's taken in my room when I was a teenager. Cannabis leaf and alien posters and the Trainspotting film poster!

misdee · 06/02/2014 13:45

My daughters have Point Horror books. We found 20 of them in the free book shop. The older two love them. We have been adding to their collection whenever we spot them in charity shops.

What were those tops called with a cartoon man smoking a spliff? Wasn't naff naff was it?

misdee · 06/02/2014 13:46

Cannabis leafs were emblazoned on almost everything. I still have one on my keys for the back door Blush

misdee · 06/02/2014 13:48

And as my brothers posted on FB! The other day. The arcade game Out Run. We used to always play that game on holiday in the arcades (mid 90's)

ProfondoRosso · 06/02/2014 13:55

misdee, if I found 20 Point Horrors for free, I'd probably collapse and die of joy!

EauRouge · 06/02/2014 14:03

misdee, are you thinking of Spliffy? There used to be baggy jeans with a character like that on.

KellyElly · 06/02/2014 14:14

My first thread in classics Grin
