Going shopping for clubbing outfits in Black Rose or Sex shops. (Trashy goth type... Grin )
Reading Festival when it was still a rock festival.
Torn fishnet stockings with everything.
PVC hipsters for college (WTF was I thinking?! Confused )
Lusting after men with longer hair and better makeup than me.

If anyone fancies a bit of nostalgia look up the series Beautiful People. It's set in the 90's and is amazing!!

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 19/01/2015 13:47

I turned 14 in 1990, so got to enjoy the whole of the 90's properly Wink

I remember being in the 6th form and wearing coloured dm boots or ones with floral print, with thick black tights, tight short mini skirt and a denim shirt or check shirt undone with a tight fitting band t-shirt underneath. thought I was so cool, also my hair was curly permed , chin length bob, that was longer on one side than the other, and really crunchy with my giant can of 99p superdrug hair mousse (im sure it was a pink can)

Feeling sooooo cool when I was given a pair of mahrishi cargo trousers, plain khaki with an embroidered dragon on the back of the leg, with my tight shoestring strappy vests and gazelles, I was definitely cool lol.

I remember the local market sold t-shirts with brands on , champion, ellese etc something like 3 for £5 and we thought we were fab in them, I don't think we ever really thought that they were fakes.

then once older was heavily into the dance scene going off to raves and parties in halls of residence in unis. Driving off to leeds (I was in York) and Manchester to go clubbing and driving home at 6 in the morning, or waiting for the first train back to York.

Had ds1 in 1997 so partying was curtailed at 21, but still managed to go clubbing right up to the week before having him, although have to admit wasn't so fun sober.

It was all satin wrapover short skirts and dresses like nighties, all topshop or warehouse finest.

bloody loved watching mel and sue at lunch time when I was on maternity leave.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 19/01/2015 13:51

not sure if im just thinking back with rose tinted glasses (which I did have at some point, round john lennon type ones Blush) but jobs seemed easier to come by, I always hard part time work and often several jobs at once as needed to fund my social life and left home at 17 so had rent to pay as well as studying. Leaving uni and going straight into a job, no problem getting more part time work, whereas 17yr old ds1 has been applying for part time work for well over a year and not even an interview yet.

Peter Andre Blush
Sean McGuire (Aiden in Eastenders turned popstar)

Both support acts for Boyzone (swoon).

Buying Smash Hits magazine for the song lyrics on the back page.

On the Eastenders theme, Paul Nicholls who played schizophrenic Joe Wickes, and his manky knitted green jumper i had this poster on my wall

Loved 3T as well, and Nick from the Backstreet Boys.

And POD shoes.

SideOrderofChips · 31/10/2015 13:14

Being rude and bumping this

I was 10 in 1994 so most of my clubbing days were in the 2000's

However if i could create a time machine i would so go back and live in the 90's again. i am very nostalgic for the decade.

powkin · 31/10/2015 22:45

I had forgotten so many of these! Phone cards!!! Took us ages to remember what they were for.

The charts containing good and awful music all mashed up into one. Pre-ordering albums in Our Price and HMV, Britpop, indie, jungle, drum and bass, electronica. Writing bandnames all over my rucksack in their special fonts (blur, ash and jamiroquai (!) were my top 3). Rage Against the Machine. Having MTV and Nickelodeon (live from the Trocadero!) when no one else had it - staying up to watch the MTV awards.

Fanzines/fanclubs, NME, Melody Maker, John Peel Sessions

Hotmail
AOL and the internet blocking your phone line and making that amazing noise
Web chatrooms - ICQ, MSN, NME chatroom
Going on the internet to find penpals... and the internet being pretty useless.
Geocities websites
Penpals (still have them)
Nokia vs Ericsson phones. Only being able to save 10 text messages (drama! which to keep!). Playing snake.

Clueless, Hackers, Empire Records, The Craft, The Net, The Brady Bunch Movie, The Worst Witch (with 'dreamy' Tim Curry), Home Alone 1 & 2, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, My Girl, Titanic. Watching Flashdance and thinking it was rude

Buying things via mail order/fax. Fax machines being magical. Stealing from Woolworths. Stealing from everywhere in my case... my prized steal was an ill fitting wonderbra that did NOTHING.

J17 and Diary of a Crush, More magazine position of the month, Bliss/Sugar for the younger teens.

The Start of Harry Potter!

Refusing to leave the house when My So Called Life was on, the bigger breakfast (especially Bug Juice), Dawson's Creek, ER, Neighbours (still watch it religiously...), Chatlines, The High Life, Queer as Folk, Eurotrash.

Round tinted glasses, getting a different numbers of piercings in each ear, glitter spray (glitter everything), band t-shirts (tour t-shirts being a badge of honour)

Roller Discos, teen discos in community centres, boys and girls on each side of the room.

Blue Square + Red Square = Purple Square, Reef's, Bacardi Breezers, Hooch. Lots of underage drinking and clubbing and parent's who didn't give a shite!

powkin · 31/10/2015 22:47

The little 'E-Oh!' noise on ICQ (that sounded like a tellytubby) that made when you got a message and the little flower symbol for offline/online.

The internet being where you talked to strangers rather than your friends.

A/S/L anyone?!

BoodleDoo · 25/11/2015 22:54

The ICQ 'eh-oh' noise brings back fond memories of holing myself away for hours on end to talk to the people with whom I spent the entire school day...

I had a sudden blast of nostalgia for 'Yikes' pencils earlier. Oh how we coveted these at primary school.

Techno

AnneOfCleavage · 24/02/2016 19:41

I loved my puffy trainers (high top Nike airs with huge puffy tongue sticking up)
Grungy gypsy skirts with DM boots
Shell suits
Super tight permed hair all crunchy with mousse and high ponytails with dangly thin wisps hanging down all greasy looking
Buffalo platform boots
Tiny thin material clubbing dresses with spaghetti thin straps
Glitter make up
Arm bangles right up the top of the arm (a la sporty spice)
Phoning after 6pm as it was cheaper
Flowery fabric rucksacks from Dorothy Perkins

Loved the 90s - still have my belly ring in and remember the attention it got in clubs as it was a new concept.

Great thread Grin

SwedeDreams · 24/02/2016 20:34

I still have my buffalo platform trainers, knee high platform boots and catsuits. Also lots of tiny little dresses, combat trousers and rubber waistcoats, lurid painted mesh tops and white gloves! Also my treasured manga top with overlong sleeves from some little shop in covent Garden -cyberdog?

Dresses with tshirts under, mini skirts with hot pants BUT must be worn with high top trainers so as to not look like you were trying too hard.

When I get thin I'm going to wear them all again!!

Well, maybe not the buffalo trainers...

LittleFishBigOcean · 24/02/2016 22:00

I was 12 in 1991 and the 90s was when I had the most freedom. My weekends would be spent getting on the train into Brum, and mooching round the oasis market for laces for my DMs, or buying More for position of the fortnight, or Mizz.

We'd go to The Body Shop and buy stationery and a bagful of soap and lip balm for a couple of quid.

Tower records on the corner of New Street and Cooperation Street. And Morgan. And Jane Norman. In those days I could fit into their clothes. But thought I was too fat.

I remember the Disney shop being loads better than it is now. I mean, DD loves it but she'd love the old one more! There was a great big platform thing where they had all the soft toys and you had to rummage for which one you wanted- a bit like pot luck. It was in the pavilions.

I remember starting 6th Form in 1995 in mini skirts. I had a tartan one and a cord one. And tartan trousers. And my mum's vintage velvet jacket. All my friends had a different coloured one.

Amazing memories. Such a feel good time I think. Everybody's grumpier nowadays.

I'm a bit of an imposter because I wasn't a teenager until the early 00's but I had:
Blue hair mascara
Impulse O2 I still look for it in Boots
Roll on glitter
Baby blue skirt/trousers as well as a rather fetching neon skirt over a pair of cycle shorts which had one pink leg and one green!
Sister Sister
Keenan and Kel
Sabrina
Spice Girls. I drew a picture of them which was printed in Smash Hits mag. I still have it!
Peter Andre the first time round with his greasy curtains
Those massive black roller boots with neon wheels
Dewberry from Body Shop. Actually, Body Shop in general. I used to love the endangered animal range they had and the big bowls of bath pearls. It's got too fancy now.

AnneOfCleavage · 25/02/2016 11:45

Oh and coloured jeans. I LOVED my green jeans and my BF now DH loved his red ones Grin

CrazyMary · 26/02/2016 03:04

First episode of home and away was Tom &pippa arriving at summer bay house with their foster children. Sally has an imaginary friend called milko. She runs off and finds Bobby hiding in a caravan. Alf introduced himself and Floss(with her psychic powers) & Neville were there too.

I remember clear mascara, roller lip gloss, wrangler denim jeans and jackets, taping songs on a tape recorder off the radio hoping the dj didn't ruin it by talking over the start or finish of the song. Using a biro to wind up the cassette tape when the player botched the brown tape. Smash Hits and Just 17 magazines and the cheap 'freebies' stuck to the cover and the lyrics of songs and the perfume sample pages in the inside. Hipster trousers. Platform shoes, writing letters to our BFF. Arranging to meet boys at the next teenage disco. Ringing the house phone to speak to your friend about what happened during the day (even though you spent virtually all day with them). Penny sweets, sherbet dips, hubba bubba bubble gum.
Good times! I feel old to think it was 20+ years ago.

theluckiest · 28/02/2016 11:09

These were my formative teenage years!!!! When I was thin (but thought I was fat) How I wish I could tell my teen self how gorgeous she was in her crop top and combat miniskirt with docs (rainbow laces).

I met DH in 1994 - he was wearing a Nirvana tshirt, had cherry red docs AND had curtains. He also wore a BloodSugarSexMagic RHCP top with a lumberjack shirt over the top on a later date so knew he was a definite keeper.

We went to see Four Weddings & a Funeral - it was supposed to be 'as friends' Wink

I also had an illicit copy of 'Forever.' The name Ralph will always cause a wry smile to women of a certain age...

My teenage cousins now wear exactly what I was wearing circa 1995. What goes around definitely comes around

Heavenscent86 · 02/03/2016 20:40

How about Baby G watches? They were really fashionable at my school.
And does anyone remember DARE, the just say no to drugs campaign? That would have been in the 90s but I think was my last year at primary school so not quite a teenager.

NicoleM91 · 03/03/2016 09:37

We listened to grunge whole day, those were the best times of my life!

Dizzybintess · 03/04/2016 21:18
