I was a teenager in the 90's! (13 in 1990 to be precise, so remember a LOT of it!)

My memories -

  • Sweater Shop jumpers.
  • Shell suits. I had a purple one. Dead trendy, I was Hmm
  • The BodyShop, white musk perfume
  • dummies in your mouth if you were out clubbing. Hmm (Not me I hasten to add, I found it weird!)

Music:

  • The Shamen (Ebeneezer Goode)
  • EMF You're Unbelievable
  • Urban Cookie Collective - The Key, The Secret -Pulp
  • Oasis
  • Blur

Does anyone remember the first episode of Home and Away?

I remember it from about 3 months in, so don't remember the first episodes. There was Floss and Neville, Lance and Martin, Bobby, Carly, Steven, Tom and Pippa!

NoLikeyNoLighty · 04/02/2014 23:38

Oh yes, lovely lovely Hooch!

Just seen the references to Hooch. Was so pleased to see it making a comeback in my local pub last year, was like being 18 again! Grin
Does anyone else remember the limited edition Hooches they brought out?!
There was a "Smooch" drink for Valentine's Day which was, I think, passion fruit flavoured. Gorgeous.
Then there was "Hoo la la" which was French based for EUFA Euro football, I do believe!
Loved Hooch Smile

NoLikeyNoLighty · 04/02/2014 23:43

Also videos, web chatrooms, phone cards..

Web chatrooms?! Oh go away, lol that's not PROPER 90's reminiscing. Grin
The internet was literally only just rolled out when I was at college and 17 (1994.)
If you can remember web chatrooms there's something wrong! Grin

LittleBabyPigsus · 04/02/2014 23:50

The internet started in the 80s, even if normal people didn't have it.

Web chatrooms were definitely around at the tail end of the 90s. I was 13 in 2002 and used them then, but they were around before then.

Tallalime · 05/02/2014 00:23

Yes there were definity web chatrooms in the late 90's.

And AOL - which if you put on your PC then, is probably still there now Angry

Tallalime · 05/02/2014 00:26

Pogs - remember them.

Amusing ads - Pot Noodle, Hula Hoops (they're round, they're staying round and they'll be around for ever), Dime Bar (Smooth on the inside, crunchy on the outside... Armadillo's).

The Word and Eurotrash.

yolothankgod · 05/02/2014 01:31

Oh god yeah I had thousands of blinking pogs , I was talking about them the other week and my Dsis12 thought I'd lost the plot Grin

Does anybody remember that programme 'The Queens Nose' It was about a magic 50p Confused

Also does anybody else remember those chocolates that came in a round tub and were filled with yogurt -actual yogurt as you got them out of the fridge and you would get a toy with them , I think they were called Frufoos or something

CouthyMow · 05/02/2014 01:49

MD 20/20. Like vaguely fruit flavoured paint stripper...

CouthyMow · 05/02/2014 01:49

Global hypercolour t-shirts.

LittleBabyPigsus · 05/02/2014 01:50

yolo yes I loved The Queen's Nose. It was based on a book actually, by Dick King-Smith.

CouthyMow · 05/02/2014 01:51

Pogs.

CouthyMow · 05/02/2014 01:56

Pulp, Bon Jovi, Nirvana, Hole, Chumbawumba, Blur vs Oasis, Take That vs E17, Prodigy, The Shaman, Spice Girls, All Saints, Radiohead, The Verve, Scooter...so much class music!

Randomly my 11yo has been listening to Charlie says and Ebeneezer Goode and loads of other '90's choons lately. He's raiding my music collection!

CouthyMow · 05/02/2014 01:59

This thread is MY childhood. Sounds odd now to say that in relation to the decade in which my DD was born, but I was 16 in '98 when I had her, so it is true, I guess!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/02/2014 02:43

Pogs. Full scale wars were launched over pogs. You don't seem to get free stuff in crisps these days.
Launch of channel 5 everywhere else but not being able to get it.

trousers with skirts
hair mascara
spray in hair dye/glitter
white musk
candles, especially floating candles in bowls with coloured glass chips
incense sticks
byker grove

girl bands (spice girls, all saints, eternal, destiny's child)
Aqua
Steve Lamacq on the Evening session
John Peel
Radio 1 Sunday Surgery

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/02/2014 02:43

Forgot the Sweet valley high books and point horror.

Eminybob · 05/02/2014 04:21

Yes to all of these. I love this thread it has made me so nostalgic.
More than anything it has made me miss my friends from that era who I don't see enough of. Such an amazing part of my life.

Grokette · 05/02/2014 04:37

I just realised the other day that my whole style 'ideal' is based on 90s calvin Klein ads. White tshirts and vests, lovely faded denim, tanned skin, messy naturally highlighted hair, the beach in winter and summer, all that.

I still love and use daily the old school CK perfumes, especially Truth and Escape.

Also, Hanson are still around! They make quite good indie/pop/rockish music now on their own independent record label (and Taylor is still hot)

PlainBrownEnvelope · 05/02/2014 04:39

Having a massive argument with my best male friend (who I really loved but it was unrequited so I just did the whole Joey thing for about 5 yrs) about Wayne's World. He said it was a classic movie that would never date. He was soooo wrong (about that and about not wanting to go out with me).

plummyjam · 05/02/2014 06:39

Loving this thread!

Think I might go and get some white musk next time I'm in the Body Shop (if they still do it).

kiwimumof2boys · 05/02/2014 06:57

Looking through photos (yes photos taken with a camera with a film !) my student flat in '96 had Trainspotting and Nirvana unplugged live in NY posters on the wall. Also a wall of Shirley Manson pics (male flatmate had a massive thing for her).
Used to also love Ash. Whatever happened to them ?

MrsDeanAmbrose · 05/02/2014 07:09

Vic and Bob, Newman and Baddiel, The Mary Whitehouse Experience, Baddiel and Skinner's Fantasy Football, Sky tv with all random German channels...

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2014 07:21

See that tramp rummaging through a skip MrsDean? That's you that is! Grin

MrsDeanAmbrose · 05/02/2014 07:24
Grin
ScienceRocks · 05/02/2014 07:24
