Oh Wiggins, oh Bradley
I love you quite madley
You look tres sexee
In the yellow jersey
Vous etes tres bon
Avant le peloton
With your mates Cav and Froome
To Paris you'll zoom
Do your side burns help you steer?
When you win I will shed a tear.

Well done Wiggo!
Congratulations - First Brit
In Yellow Jersey
Now Go Give
The Olympics
Your Best Shot!

It doesn't claim to be an ode or haiku of any quality. But says all that needs to be said! Ha ha.

CapuccinoCannoliLover · 24/07/2012 03:52

Argh, can't sleep, contractions have started (no wonder I'm going into early labour with all the excitement on Sunday) so thought I'd read some more posts on this fab thread. So great that so many of us are into the cycling like this, but so much more great since we now have our own fab British heroes to cheer on.

DS was 4 on Sunday and was thrilled with Cav and Wiggo pulling all the stops out. DS wants to be Cav and is obsessed with sprinting on his bike and startling the bejesus out of DH, hurtling past.

DH and I were discussing next year's holiday, we want to support our cyclists on one of the TdF mountain stages on our way down to Italy. We have been to three Giro d'Italia stages, which were amazing, so would love to go to either the Alps or Pyrenees.

ps. DH was equally shocked, bemused and delighted at the perviness interest in all things cycling on this thread

Oh Cappuccino, how exciting! Good luck! If it's a boy will he be named Bradley Mark Christopher? Wink Grin

mylovelymonster · 24/07/2012 08:23

Cappuccino!Grin The stars are aligned.
You will give birth to a champion! Grin
Although not in cricket.
Hope labour's not a marathon.

Still really stoked about the cycling. Watched the recorded highlights last night. When is the round-up programme? Should be a classic.

BIWI · 24/07/2012 08:31

It has to be said, as a result of the whole TdF thing, that I pay a bit more attention to my pathetic 10 minutes or so on the bike in the gym!

Am loving your work on this thread. Grin

And good luck, Cappuccino!

mylovelymonster · 24/07/2012 08:35

We should have a Mumsnet corner on the Col de Tourmelet next year Grin..........

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 24/07/2012 09:57

I want to go next year.

DH talked about it this week. We got engaged 9 years ago (it is our official anniversary of 8 yrs marriage today) near Bagnes de Luchon and it would be really lovely to go back.

Cappuccino - hope everything going well! For you...

Breathe in the stamina of Wiggins
Shout 'Shut Up Contractions!'
Get your man to pull you up the climb
And you'll be done before opening ceremony time
(2 days before hopefully!)

LostInWales · 24/07/2012 09:59

Allez Cappuccino! Grin

QuenelleOJersey2012 · 24/07/2012 11:31

Ooh ooh, can I come? I have vowed to be on Col de Tourmalet next year. We're going to plan our holiday round it.

I stayed indoors despite sunny weather
And watched Bradley win for the first time ever

evilgiraffe · 24/07/2012 11:47

Allez Cappuccino indeed!

I am still so ridiculously excited, managed not to dream about cycling but Cav and Wiggo were the first thing I thought of when I woke up this morning Grin

evilgiraffe · 24/07/2012 11:50

Also, had an all staff email earlier entitled "recycling" - all I can think is yay cycling! Wiggo and Cav have BROKEN MY BRAIN Grin Grin Grin

ThePan · 24/07/2012 12:12

As well as the 'three legged Cav' thing, did anyone else notice the commentator's gaff on him crossing the finish line? "And Cavendish holds up four hands..."
Three legs, four hands?
O-err Madam!

maillotjaune · 24/07/2012 12:29

Not fair, we can't go anymore as it's always in term time (although might try Paris next year). I think I would only do it if I hired a camper van though - bad memories of being stuck in one place with no toilet for hours watching criteriums with DH when we had first met . I am now grateful to him for the encyclopaedic knowledge of cycling in general and TdF in particular that I have absorbed over the last 20 years though and will never admit to him that I just watch to choose which part of France I want to go on holiday to next.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 24/07/2012 14:22

Maillotjaune - wisely picking holiday destinations. It is ruddy gorgeous there though.

I used to go out with a guy in the early 90's who was (still is) massively into cycling and he introduced me to the TdF.. the boyfriend is long gone but my love of le Grand Boucle lives on... Ex and his brothers cycled up Mt Ventoux a couple of years ago. Nutters Impressive.

A quick google tells me that the first week of next year's tour has been confirmed and it will take us within striking distance of Mt Ventoux - they would have to for the 100th tour wouldn't they? It would be fab wouldn't it? but can't happen due to school term times and small uninterested children.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 24/07/2012 19:03

Aw forgot about the children. Maybe the in laws will be feeling generous.

I wonder how Cappuccino is getting on??

Any more odes anyone?

OP posts:
evilgiraffe · 24/07/2012 20:09

Children screwing up plans? Finally, an upside to battling infertility... I guess DH and I should take advantage of our youth and zoom around France cheering for Cav and co next year, eh?

Pan - surely the moral is that you can never have too much Cavendish?!?

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 24/07/2012 22:01

Evil - you shall go to the ball sneak out of service if it goes on, the Olympic Road Cycling Event is expected to finish at around 4.15pm. And the medals will be after I presume

Other Olympic Road Cycling Race facts
Race starts at 10am Saturday 28th on BBC3 then BBC1 later
It is a 156mile route up Box Hill x9 times and ending on the Mall
Our 5 man team is Wiggins, Cavendish, David Millar, Ian Stannard and Chris Froome
The lads will work together through the race to get Cav to the front. Well they've had a bit of practise so should be good at that!

Handy guide to the race here

DS's birthday party should be over in time for the big push! Hurrah! Grin

OP posts:
evilgiraffe · 24/07/2012 22:31

Wicked, that should be doable!

Did you see Cav and Millar's tweets today? They went out training with Chris Froome, stopped off for a cuppa halfway. Oh to work in that cafe...

ThePan · 24/07/2012 22:42

too much Cav. Ha!

Nice link there, HalfMum. Thanks. So we are going to be re-visiting final stage, edge-of-seat experience then!

clutterqueen · 24/07/2012 22:57

Loving this thread which has just helped me get through my journey home. Will any of you be on the road race route on Sat? Am part too excited part too nervous that we won't get a good spot for viewing !

ThePan · 24/07/2012 23:04

unless there's a last minute route change to include the Peaks, no!

Opportunity to interest dd in cycling, but as it doesn't involve plugging something in, it'll be a battle....

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 24/07/2012 23:08

Sadly too far away, clutter, to be there.

I did see the Cav tweet evilgiraffe. We are keen fans stalkers.

After the road race, the velodrome!

As an aside, also looking forward to the opening ceremony (although the lads may need an early night before the big race).
