Blackbird in my bedroom! Get it out! Get it out!

what do I do?!

I have NEVER moved so fast, was in bed it flew in the window like a bat out of hell and I've ran out slamming the door behind me.

Now tell me it's likely to fly out on his accord whilst I do the school run?

Is there an RSPCA or RSPCB near you that have animal officers that coup come and rescue you it? There seem to be plenty of tv programmer following them but they might be able to help or at least give good advice...

At 6??

I'd offer to help but I still cant drive for another 2 weeks. Sad

(but then again with all my bravery I would probably take one look at it and start flapping myself)

throw the cat in - let it earn its keep

there's a battery (a place for bats) up the road, I could phone them I suppose. They'd have equipment at least.

It's big, like the size of a big kitten with WINGS and a BEAK! My goggles are in the bedroom.

Do you have a wheely bin and some worms or bird food of some kind? Stick the food in the wheely bin, place bin lengthways in room, with lid open and at the top.

Observe the room at various time intervals. Once the bird is in the bin, slam the lid shut. Then take wheely bin outside, open lid, and run for your life.

do you really think she is going to be able to wrestle a wheely bin into her bedroom?

this is really funny

Wish I could come and help. I have lots of experience of catching birds bought in by bastard cat by quietly cornering them and picking them up. Birds are very delicate.

Go in there quietly with a towel and sit for a bit so both it and you get more used to each other. then it will be easier to throw the towel over it quietly.

Yes. Yes I do. They have wheels, don't they?

The council will NOT help, sorry. They have a dog/animal warden but their services don't extend to releasing blackbirds from bedrooms.

The poor thing will be far more scared of you than you ae of it and will be at risk of dying of shock if you go in waving things at him and leaping around shrieking. Dunno about you but I'd far rather be removing a live bird than a still-warm dead one. (But then I am the person locals come to when they find wild birds in need of nursing or rearing...)

You have 2 options.... sit tight and wait or ask a neighbour/friend to try and guide hin out gently without stressing him. Birds aren't very bright when trapped like this but he won't be there forever, perhaps patience is your best weapon.

how would one get a wheely bin upstairs?

I have nothing to share other than to say that this scenario is my worst nightmare! I too would be flapping and screaming - i hyperventilated last week when i saw a moth in the bathroom.

'sit for a bit' did you read what happened last time she went in Grin

do you think aj has been eaten by her car spider?

A cat box is another good way actually - have tried this with a racing pigeon. Put food in box, tie string to cat box door and thread through the back of the box so that you can stand a long way and still pull on it to close it. then sit down quietly and wait.

it may have wheels but they are big and unwieldy

I feel really sorry for op, if I was there I would be able to gently grab it and release it

birds dont bother me at all

have to save lots of them out of our house as they nest in outhouse and confuse the front door with the other door when its open

spiders on the other hand although I did hold a small one the other day, therapy.

I say it would be the work of a moment to get a wheely bin upstairs.

We need to know the type of bird, really. Can you get a pic? If it's a wee blackbird then it will be very delicate and scared.

If it's a raven then it's a bit tougher.

haha. oh god. this is funny.

:)

Sorry to laugh.
A bird once came in a caravan i staying it and it ripped all the curtains.. i was about 5 and terrified.

one came in my conservatory once.. i think i swished a baking tray at it.

and one came in at work when i was on my own. that was quite scary because it was a massive pigeon. I think it went out on its own.

Am loving the lightsabre thing.
