Kids eye views of the Royal Wedding.

So, we're sat here watching the Royal Wedding. As Kate was stood in the abbey, being straightened out, DS said "Mummy, the princess wants to sit down". He now thinks they're going to have a party where they drink fruit shoots and coke... Hmm

Meanwhile, my youngest niece (aged 6) thinks Princess Diana has come back from the dead. She's also informed her parents that she wants her wedding to be exactly the same... Grin

Anyone else had any corkers from their kids today?

when my ds (9) saw a pic of all the royals in a newspaper family tree the other day he said "how can those two be in the royal family, they look like Eastenders!" (he was looking at princess B and E) - completely unprompted by me, don't think I've ever mentioned them to him!

SybilBeddows · 30/04/2011 15:41

I turned the telly on today and the random news program that was on was showing footage from yesterday and dd said in disbelief 'Are those choirboys STILL singing?'

PassTheTwiglets · 30/04/2011 15:44

My DD (8yo) remarked how old Prince Phillips looked. DH told her that Phillip was 92 and DD said "WOW, that's even older than Nanny!" Nanny is 64 :)

gottasmile · 30/04/2011 16:33

Ds (7) was almost in tears saying how unlucky he was. I thought it was because we didn't (couldn't) go to the wedding, or to a street party, but it turns out he is unlucky because he didn't get to marry Kate. "She's really really beautiful".

piprabbit · 30/04/2011 16:39

Having had a lovely day watching the wedding yesterday, this morning I gave my DD (7yo) and DS (nearly 3) a Happyland Royal Wedding character set. I was sort of hoping that having watched the wedding together it would encourage them to find a game they could play together.

It worked like a dream. Five minutes after opening the box, it was very very quiet so I popped my head round the door to find out how they were doing.

The Queen had just been rushed to hospital where she was in bed. Phillip, William and the soldiers were clustered around the bed. The ambulance was returning to collect Kate and the corgi. DD told me that the Queen was going to die and then William and Kate could be king and queen instead Shock. Forget weddings - let's play funerals.

Mummasmurf · 30/04/2011 17:38

DD has it in her head the Will and Kate are called Union (Kate) and Jack (Will).

She keeps saying 'oh look there's Union again'. :)

MayorNaze · 30/04/2011 17:50

later on yesterday afternoon a shot of the DVD of the wedding came up

dd2, age 4 - "MUMMY! we HAVE to get that!"

ds was the best though, i am horrified and embarrassed by his lack of general knowledge Blush he is nearly 12 btw Blush

ds "isn't it nice that prince charles and his ex-wife get on so well, look at them chatting together."

me "er, he is talking to the Queen, ds, she is his MOTHER Shock!!!"

ds oh. can i play on my xbox??

Shock Shock Blush Blush

ManateeEquineOhara · 30/04/2011 20:22

Heh @ this thread.

DD (6) totally misheard some of the commentary when they were talking about the reception and thought they said that later, at the reception, they would be roasting a child'! She looked horrified.

bluebump · 30/04/2011 20:40

My DS just wanted to know why nursery had to be shut, I explained it was because of the wedding but he wasn't impressed.

SybilBeddows · 30/04/2011 20:44

lmao Manatee!

LynetteScavo · 30/04/2011 20:50

DD hear DH saying some people had comfy chairs and some people had ordinary fold up chairs. She said "When I go to a Royal wedding I will take my High School Musical Cushion in case I get one of the hard fold up chairs."

MammyT · 30/04/2011 21:27

My dd aged just 3 was convinced that once Kate and William married, the Queen would die.. So as they're walking down the aisle to great fanfare, she's jumping up and down saying 'Is the Queen dead yet?'

So she's either anti-Monarchy or a prophet..

Given the Queen survived the day, it must be the former!

SarfEasticated · 30/04/2011 22:33

My DD (3.5) was saying all the way through the service 'but where's the dancing'. The girl has standards!

doublemuvver · 30/04/2011 22:57

My 3 year old b/g twins reckoned they were gonna have a bouncy castle at the party and would eat tuna sandwiches and crisps. Very interested in the bridesmaids, the "little boys dressed up as soldiers" and the horses (and the horse poo). They thought the Archbishop looked like Grandad.

Beavermum · 30/04/2011 23:01

BF's dd 6 when looking at little bridesmaids and pages look mummy there are 6 of them one more they would be dwarves then started singing Hi Ho!!!!!!!!!!!

wednesday13 · 30/04/2011 23:05

DS was very worried that Rowan Atkinson would swing from the ceiling of Westminster Abbey like in Johnny English. I reassured him that RA was not going to be there but it turns out he was as he's a friend of Prince Charles.

queenceleste · 30/04/2011 23:50

ds, 10, not understanding why Prince Philip isn't the King...

TwoIfBySea · 01/05/2011 02:24

Dts2 (an unimpressed 9) asked if they were getting married in Big Ben. Now he would have been impressed had they done so.

Dts1 asked why Posh Spice looked so miserable - he imagined it would be because her hair was too tight!

PassTheTwiglets · 01/05/2011 07:03

Celeste, I'm with your DS on that one - I don't get it either :)

instantfamily · 01/05/2011 07:25

Our friends daughter when she saw Kate: Why is she wearing a mosquito net?

used2bthin · 01/05/2011 09:03

My DD 4 and a half said "oh father christmas!" when William arrived in his red clothes!

She also thought they were coming here and went to the door when I shouted oh here comes the queen!

Oh and she got fed up with it all at one point and said (in response to come on we are going to watch the prince and princess) "no, not my prince and princess!"

HubbaHubbaBubba · 01/05/2011 09:54

DD1 (nearly 4) burst into tears when she realised we weren't invited to the actual wedding.

DD2 (2 and a half) wanted to know why there were so many people wearing their dressing gowns (I think she meant the Bishop and the choir boys)

Jojocat · 01/05/2011 16:37

DD - aaaaaaaaarrrrrggggghhhh!!!! - each time she saw the balcony kiss replayed.

JimJammum · 01/05/2011 21:01

My ds (4yo) announced on Friday that "today is the day that Wilma (sic) and Kate get married". He watched it all on Friday without much comment, so I figured he wasn't bothered, but got up on Saturday and asked if there was another Royal Wedding on Saturday too, and seemed very disappointed when I said no. He did say "her dress was beautiful, mummy", and looked through the souvenir edition of the paper with hundreds of pages of photos 3 times, so he clearly did enjoy it.

Wilma and Kate should definitley read some of these comments...soooo sweet! I can remember Charles & Diana's wedding vividly, and I would only have been 6, and have no memory of most of my childhood!!

Tgger · 01/05/2011 21:23

DS (4.5) wanted to know why the "soldiers" (anyone dressed in uniform) weren't wearing their hats in the Abbey.

He also thought that William and Kate would be along to the street party we had in the afternoon and was a bit disappointed when told they were having their own party Smile.
