He's halfway there now. Well done both of you.

unclefester77 · 27/05/2011 09:19

hooray for the magic of mashed potato!!! Good for you Ginger!! And well done Pinot, it's a nightmare handrearing puddy tats, but worth every minute Smile

Pinot · 27/05/2011 10:48

Fester if I could reach through the screen and kiss you I would! Meow has just eaten a large (for her) amount of magic mash and I got Ginger to eat it off the spoon...quite a lot too!! With not much mess at all!! It could be that he's just ready but I suspect with the gusto Meow was giving eating it, the magic mash really does appeal to them. It's all creamy and milk flavoured = easy to eat.

Chuffed. To. Bits!!

Next step - getting Ginger to eat by himself, out of a bowl.

FAB If you're reading this - maybe try FabCat on it too? :)

Oh! Forgot - Ginger managed to escape from his tub in the early hours of this morning and I was woken at 4.15am by ickle cool paws on my face and when I opened my eyes a huuuuuuuge purr. He was very proud of himself Grin He slept on my pillow after that ((Meow was still fast asleep in the tub))

Grin Don't thank me, thank my Mum! She's the magic cat lady! They are just babies aren't they - they do seem to love it! Definitely saved Bramble's life and I'm glad it's done the trick - they are so lucky to have found you and have landed on their paws!!!
onclefestere · 27/05/2011 11:09

by the way it's unclefester77 - I've gone French and lost the birthyear...

OTheHugeManatee · 27/05/2011 11:22

The thing that's taxing me at the moment is: how did Ginger get up on the bed to go feety feety feety all over your face at 4.15am?

Did he go up the side of your bed like a mountaineer, or are you co-sleeping with a tub of kittens? Grin

ExitPursuedByAKitten · 27/05/2011 12:19

Great news. And so sweeeeet of Ginger. But wouldn't Meow get cold and lonely Sad. Wait until he starts licking your eyelids to wake you up...

Off on hols for a week - hope they continue to thrive.

TheOriginalFAB · 27/05/2011 12:52

You know that Ginger won't sleep in the tub any more now, don't you? Grin.

FabCat has eaten her breakfast Grin but I think she has gone off her renal food again. Is mash going to be okay for her kidney problems? She has had chips in the past but no mash.

onclefestere · 27/05/2011 12:54

FAB if she's had chips she'll cope with mash - what kidney probs does she have? Poor FabCat...

Pinot · 27/05/2011 13:07

Grin at co-sleeping in a tub! They can climb vertically now Shock so he just moochied on up the side of the bed and snuggled in. I know what you mean exit about Meow - I felt a bit guilty when she woke up at reasonable o'clock and was all blinky-eyed at me...but she has the heatpad too which I tuck into their faux fur snuggle-sac (it's like a faux-fur bag really, designed for kittens)...Meow sleeps inside it always but Ginger often gets too hot and kips on top. It's all his fluffiness insulating him I reckon!

Just cooked up some bacon for part of a meal tonight and Ginger was climbing up my leg at the smell...so I offered him some juice from the cooking and he licked that, then I cut him a teensy piece and he ate that...what a little monkey! :)

Exit am very Envy at the idea of a holiday. Enjoy x

DP's childhood cat used to wake him up at sparrow's fart breakfast time by carefully extending a claw and lifting up one of his eyelids. The first thing he'd see at 4.30am would be a pink whiskery cat nose inches from his retina.

Be afraid, Pinot. Be very afraid Grin

TheOriginalFAB · 27/05/2011 13:19

onclefester - she wasn't allowed the chips Grin. Her kidneys are failing so she is meant to be on renal food now.

onclefestere · 27/05/2011 13:24

oh dear...I'm sorry. I don't think mash would help at all in this case, would it...
I hope she gets back on the renal food soon. xxx

SummerRain · 27/05/2011 13:27

One of ours used to sleep on our heads. We'd be woken up at ridiculous o'clock being suffocated by a huge kitten.

It was during that phase that dp put his foot down and banned them from the bedroom at night Sad (I still sneak them in when I can though, I love having snuggly cats tucked up with me Grin)

Pinot · 27/05/2011 13:29

ooh Summer good glad you're here. Is it safe to have them in bed? I know that sounds all PFB Grin but is it? Confused And if not, how the jeff do I make em stay in their bed??

OP posts:
TheOriginalFAB · 27/05/2011 13:30

I just went to check on FabCat and she is asking for food. I offered a piece of cake as she seemed to want that but no, so I gave her some biscuits. I hope she is quick and comes upstairs as the mad kids are riding their motorbikes up and down the close again.Angry

onclefestere · 27/05/2011 13:30

our cats still get in our bed now Confused. I don't think it's dangerous is it? I suppose there's a risk with co-sleeping but cats tend to kick up a big fuss if you sit on them accidentally....

Grin I honestly don't think so...they just move if you move...they enjoy cuddling up anyway, don't they - it's nice and warm!

ClaireDeLoon · 27/05/2011 13:41

I wouldn't have a tiny one in our bed. Mostly because they're a bit less reliable in the 'holding it in until they get to their tray' department. I say 'our bed' of course I do realise it is the cats bed and they just let us sleep in it when they aren't using it.

Fab my old boy had renal failure in the few years before he passed (aged 19). I took the view that it was better for him to eat non renal food than not eat at all, he got dreadfully thin for the last year. I used to give them renal biscuits (all cats to avoid two types, expensive but healthwise fine for the two junior cats) and ordinary pouches. If his appetite was off he would get coley, prawns and applaws. Mash might be palatable but it's not giving him much in the way of nutrients. Much sympathy it is awful not knowing what to do for the best.

onclefestere · 27/05/2011 13:43

No, that's the thing with mash. I think Mum just used it as a filler to get kittens used to solids but it's clearly no use for a cat with kidney problems....

TheOriginalFAB · 27/05/2011 13:50

My vet agrees a shorter but happier life is preferable and doesn't mind us giving her normal food if she won't eat the renal stuff. She sees the vet next week.

onclefestere · 27/05/2011 13:53

That's good news FAB. Tinned roe is always a good treat for poorly cats not feeling their best - might be worth a try?
