The new pics are gorgeous.

You should make them into cards, I'm sure loads of MNers would buy them.

Pinot · 13/05/2011 12:22

Monsieur Ginger just squatted and peed on the floor....a full on squat, with a stare into the distance to aid concentration.

Soooooooo I'm guessing he's ready for a litter tray.

Advice and tips pretty please...?

Happy Birthday for tomorrow for you and DS,

No idea about toilet training kittens as mine were trained when I got them. Do you normally wee and poo after a feed? If so try putting in the tray straight after feeding and keeping them there until they go? They will undoubtedly play in the litter, my youngest cat still did that when I got him at 12 weeks!

BecauseImWorthIt · 13/05/2011 13:05

You should make all those photos into a calendar, to sell to us MNetters.

Maiasaurus · 13/05/2011 13:20

If you do a calendar, please get this for Easter. Grin

Pinot · 13/05/2011 13:26

Thanks Claire :) DS was 10 last Sunday and I'm 21+15 on Thursday next, so this party is slap bang in the middle - though every reply I've had has been along the lines of "Can't wait to cuddle/stroke/see the kittens. Oh and you and DS" Hmm Hey - I know my place!! Grin

I've just given the kits a bath as Ginger had pee all up his tummy (he squatted ver ver low indeed!) so now they're doing this Envy Envy from the comfort of their basket.

Next feed time it's litter tray-a-go-go so I've brought the babywipes into the lounge as I have a feeling it's going to get messy

Maia thats hilarious! Every cat I've ever had would never have kept it on so I'm amazed they got the cats to pose like that!!

ClaireDeLoon · 13/05/2011 16:06

Oops Blush I meant 'do you normally get them to wee and poo......' :o

Pinot · 13/05/2011 16:13

Not only did I perfectly understand you Claire, it didn't even occur to me Grin

BTWB - your time for litter potty training will come! Grin

Pinot.... when you wipe up a pee puddle use kitchen roll and instead of dumping it, put it in the litter tray and show them, they'lll start to assosiate the smell with the place.

If you're quick you may be able to catch them just as they start to squat occassionaly too and fire them in the tray.

Don't worry, most cats are easy to train >

Pinot · 13/05/2011 16:38

I've put the cotton wool balls filled with their pee into the tray...which I hope is the same kinda thang. When I put them in there they just went "WOAH!" and spread wide kinda like Tom Cruise in MI when he hangs from the thread iykwim...guess the ground moving made them freak out a bit. They did nothing, nada, zip. Will persevere!

Oh and Ruby my vizsla pup has just eaten some of the litter Hmm

OP posts:
SummerRain · 13/05/2011 17:06

it's all good... that' why you got the natural stuff rememeber? Extra fibre for her Wink

They'll get there, you'll be chasing around after them shouting 'Watch out, that kitten is about to peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!' for a few days but honestly it doesn't last long.

If the litter is really freaking them out you could line the tray with newpaper and just throw a few handfuls of litter on top, enough that they get used to the look and smell of it and can experiment with moving it around but not enough to give them the quicksand experiance. As they get more confidant you could gradually start using more of it.

Pinot · 13/05/2011 18:04

Brilliant advice. Thank you!

Northernlurker · 13/05/2011 18:12

Remember when they get the hang of it two cats need three trays. (I know, I know - apparently one each isn't enough.........)

Pinot · 13/05/2011 18:15

What?

What?

What again?

Confused
OP posts:
Northernlurker · 13/05/2011 18:29

Well they might demand need three. Some cats manage with less. My parents' brother/sister duo manage with one but they mostly go outside.

The rule of thumb though for multiple cat households is one per cat plus one.

SoupDragon · 13/05/2011 18:31

my two have only ever had one, as did the two before them.

Northernlurker · 13/05/2011 18:36

Yes but soupdragon all the other cats in the neighbourhood have looked down on them for not having an en-suite......

SoupDragon · 13/05/2011 18:38

They have over 150 feet of ensuite

Pinot · 13/05/2011 18:38

Grin ensuite!

My house is on 3 floors...would one on each floor be the way forward?

OP posts:
Pinot · 13/05/2011 18:39

Blimey soupdragon I have garden-envy! 150ft! Envy
