New to MN but like what I read so far. Struggling to get by day by day at the minute and feeling isolated but not enough to make the effort to join in the 'groups' the whole world seems to think are just what I need!!!!

Have daughter of 4 and girl and boy twins of eight months. Not had time since they were born when all three kids have been well, am I just cursed? Throw in a house move that took 6 months, a partner that works away most of the week and a mother-in-law I can wait another lifetime to deal with and I've ended up the sort of person I used to look at and wonder how life got like that.

Anyone give me hope that when the babes are eighteen months I'll feel better?!! If not, anyone tell me that alternate nights of gin then chocolate is an ok passage through?

Hi GO. I'm in N8 at the foot of Ally Pally and Muswell Hill. Smile

Methinks a meet up is on the cards!

jambuttie · 12/03/2006 15:43

wish more twin mummies were near me in livingston

TwoIfBySea · 12/03/2006 16:03

Jambuttie, I know there was a twin club that met up in Bathgate a few years ago. Completely useless for me as I had no way of getting there (they met at the Innkeepers Fayre) unless I fancied a 6 mile walk!

Did find the HV not that bothered about encouraging mums clubs and the such, she had too many bad parents to deal with. I couldn't fit the double buggy in the doors of where the toddler club was either so that was out of bounds, it was quite isolating!

I bet I've probably seen you around the shopping centre in Livi, I'd be the one looking utterly frazzled with two 4 yo dts who could charm the birds out the trees. They got free icecreams at Pizza Hut on friday!

I do the whole praise and ignore thing, I would have hoped it worked because one would see the other being praised for good behaviour and being fussed over. They hate, and I mean, hate being ignored so it does work...most of the time. I've been spoiled with their behaviour up to now, I've never been really challenged for any length of time and nothing like this. So I suppose that would be me getting my comeuppance!

jambuttie · 12/03/2006 16:14

See i drive but i dont fancy going all the way to bathgate- also if i remeber correctly this has since closed so nearest is edinburgh.

Wonder if we know each other then??????

is it b/g, g/g or b/b twins youhave?

what area in livi are you?

goldenoldie · 12/03/2006 19:24

Mars - would love to meet. Do you go to any twins groups? We have a great one in Stokey.

harrogatemum · 13/03/2006 08:44

booooo where are all the north of england twin mummies. I feel left out (huffs off twin style to lie on floor screaming)

Kelly1978 · 13/03/2006 12:45

lol, hm. Meeley is prob nearer you, she is in nottingham.

TwoIfBySea · 13/03/2006 12:54

I have b/b twins, 4 years old.

I don't live in Livi, I'm stuck in Armadale unfortunately (and not happy there at all!) The boys go to nursery in Linlithgow (due to a major cock up on behalf of pupil placement) and hopefully will go to school there as well as they have settled really well there. We also want to move there but who the hell would want a house swap to Armadale!

JuA · 13/03/2006 13:11

HM - I am in the North West - so not that far from you.

annietwin · 13/03/2006 13:22

Hello - sorry to butt in - i often read this thread but haven't got round to posting on it.

I have G/G DTs aged 21 months and live in N1, somewhere near goldenoldie I guess!

Mars, I think we have a mutual mumsnet friend (franch)?

I'd love to come along if there's a north london meet up. I sometimes go to the highgate and crouch end twins group but it's a bit of a trek up the A1.

Anyway, hello to you all and I'll try to post more often.

FrumpyGrumpy · 13/03/2006 14:01

Hi annietwin and everyone.

Hi annietwin - have you been to the twins group in Defore rd N16?

Would love to meet up for a coffee - any good days for you?

Can I be nosy and ask about your childcare arrangements? I'm starting to get organised in that dept. myself and am keen to find out what other twin mums do.

annietwin · 13/03/2006 15:28

Hello goldenoldie

I went to the stokey one when I was pregnant and it seemed like a nice friendly group. I haven't been back because I found it v.difficult to park and I was too lazy to get a bus!

I'd love to meet for a coffee and chat. I'm free tuesdays and thursdays. I went back to work part time when Dts were 8 months. I found a great nanny who stayed for just over a year and we've just started with another who seems equally good. I think I have been very very lucky. I think my first nanny is looking for work on mondays and fridays in the area. Might you be interested?

MarsLady · 13/03/2006 16:20

hiya both.

Yes Annietwin we do indeed have a mutual MNetter. She's rather lovely isn't she?

We must do a meet up soon. Stokey may be a step too far for me as I don't drive... but you never know Grin

goldenoldie · 14/03/2006 06:22

annie - I'm looking for a nanny that can do three days a week, Tue - Thurs. Where did you find your nannies?

Re: Stokey twins club. They give out parking permits for twin club members, so no prob. parking if you ever want to go back.

Thurs are better than Tues for me. What about you Mars?

harrogatemum · 14/03/2006 10:05

JuA where are you in the North WEst?

Mars - yes its milky and today is day 5 of it.....I am taking him to the docs (they normally lock the door and pull down the blinds when they see me coming, not that bloody mtoher of twins again).

Am having something like my 10th day off work this year, what a record. All due to DTs........

annietwin · 15/03/2006 10:11

Morning everyone

Harrogatemum - sorry to hear DT1 is till poorly. I hope the Docs can sort it out.

Goldenoldie - I put adverts on 2 internet sites (nannyjobs and gumtree) which costs about a tenner for each. I must have had about 200 replies in total - most of which were hopeless, but some very good candidates too. However, in the end I found both nannies through word of mouth and just asking around at playgroups etc. As I said, I think I've been very lucky. We looked into nurseries but it worked out cheaper and much more flexible to get a nanny. Its great because I don't have to rush to get DTs dressed and changed. Also, they don't get sent home every time they sneaze etc. Childcare is a big decision and I think you are right to start thinking about it now.

FrumpyGrumpy · 15/03/2006 14:07

Hi girls,

My DTs have been so sweet today. Just played "when I catch you I'm gonna kiss you all over" and they were so funny - kissing each other and me! So much nicer than "lets eat whatever we find" or "lets chalk a picture for mum on the cupboards" Grin. Illness still follows us around but we're surfing it.

Mars, I failed my driving test first time round but, you know, I think you need to. You need to get rid of the nerves so next time round you can have a 'don't give a monkeys bum' attitude which will win you through. I love the freedom and I'm so looking forward to summer holidays when I can pack the car on a daily basis and live on the beach all day eating sand sandwiches. I also had a much nicer tester second time round who didn't make me feel like my life was in the balance (even if he felt his own was!).

Hey Kelly, you doing fine?

Hi fg! . Grin

I'm ok, though got a lot on atm. Totally broke so I've been stuck indoors and the kids are driving me up the walls. I finally got to meet dp's bro at the weekend which was lovely. First steps towards actually meeting the rest of his family. Smile
ds saw the paed on Monday. They are testing for a few things, but it is looking like he is autistic. Sad Was a bit of a shock as I was kind of expecting them to say it was all in my head, esp as he did so well on some of the tests.
dd s also struggling, so it is tough going atm, I can't wait til summer neither. Want to be able to get out of the house and destress. Smile

I so agree with what fg said about the driving test. I was convinced I wasn't going to pass, had promised myself I was gonna find an instructor with a mini (so cute!) to learn in at ascot. I actually stopped on the wrong side of a traffic light cos of congestion early on so was convinced I had failed and didn't give a hoot after that. Grin

Kelly1978 · 15/03/2006 14:20

am I getting too carried away with smilies?.... Grin Grin

Kelly1978 · 15/03/2006 14:21

oh and those twins - one is sick and wakign the other up lots too, so I have a pair of grumpalumps. They will be a year next week - can you believe it?!

FrumpyGrumpy · 15/03/2006 14:26

Hey Kelly Grin

Must dash to school and will post properly later but just wanted to say 'grumpalumps' had me and still has me PMSL Grin Grin Grin.

Smile on honey.

Hi Kelly, I know you said your DP is indian - is it because you're not that you're going gently with his family, do they not approve? Do they know you're engaged now? Glad it went well with his brother.

I don't know much about autism, you must be worried and, yeah, shocked I'm sure. Am I getting muddled with something else or have there been some very clever autistic people? Is it not one of these things that means the brain can be utterly fantastic (genius level) at something and also struggles with other (more simple) stuff? Was Dustin Hoffman's character in Rain Man autistic? He had this amazing ability with numbers/sight/memory but got very upset if his routine was slightly out. I'm glad you're getting to the bottom of it though because it will mean something definite for you all, albeit another learning curve. You're doing great. What a life story eh!

Kelly1978 · 15/03/2006 17:39

hi, yep u got it! I'm the evil white girl who has trapped their poor innocent son. Wink It also doesn't help that I already had two kids. No they don't knwo about the engagement yet. His bro is the first family memeber I have met, so this is a big step. He met the boys too, which was lovely.

I don't know a lot about autism really. Basically he is in his own little world. He finds social situations very difficult, anything new is hard, has trouble understanding a lot of things. He is totally unaffectionate, but such a sweet boy. I worry about what the future holds for him. The guy in rain man is autistic, I haven't actually seen it. Might be worth a watch. Interestingly, J also has a thing for numbers!

FrumpyGrumpy · 15/03/2006 17:57

Aw they gotta rock and roll with the new world - we all bleed the same blood! Good luck, step one went well and having his bro on your side will hopefully help.

Rainman is just a gorgeous film, watch it in the dark, uninterrupted and concentrate. I love it. Even if you don't associate it at all to your ds, its a good watch.

Bathtime for the screamers.....
