New to MN but like what I read so far. Struggling to get by day by day at the minute and feeling isolated but not enough to make the effort to join in the 'groups' the whole world seems to think are just what I need!!!!

Have daughter of 4 and girl and boy twins of eight months. Not had time since they were born when all three kids have been well, am I just cursed? Throw in a house move that took 6 months, a partner that works away most of the week and a mother-in-law I can wait another lifetime to deal with and I've ended up the sort of person I used to look at and wonder how life got like that.

Anyone give me hope that when the babes are eighteen months I'll feel better?!! If not, anyone tell me that alternate nights of gin then chocolate is an ok passage through?

Mars - thaks for that list! We are about to venture out to the park with them this afternoon so I expect it will come in useful!
We have had lots of offers of help but not always useful ones! although we had a surprise tesco delivery this morning - some friends had ordered us a delicious throw in the oven meal and had it delivered - completely unexpected.

catj · 09/02/2006 14:16

Just being nosey-I should lookin more often
JuA congratulations and hope all is going ok for you.
Mars I love that list- I can never think of anything wiity to say to those questions-mind you now the dt's are older they obviously don't seem as cute to strangers as newborns .

FrumpyGrumpy · 09/02/2006 14:21

Well have my DTs not just gone and started their terrible twos early! I don't do early. I do late. DD did this too and then was a total honey right through age 2/3. They have worn me out today, screaming fits and rigid bodies and "no, no, no, no, no" all the way (them not me). I need a lie down in a darkened room..... for a very long time.....with a hot man.......

Bring me back my sweet, smiley babies .

Hi catj. Join us anytime. Now mine are older people look at me and say in a querying sort of voice "are they twins"? Like I'd be mad enough to voluntarily take on two eighteen month olds just for the sheer recklessness of it!!!

OP posts:
Kelly1978 · 10/02/2006 17:03

fg, try laying down next to them and shouting no, no no back! Worked for me on occassion.

My two have started paying each other a lot more attention, but not in the way I'd hoped! They are pulling each others hair, ears, noses - anything that sticks out really. Have to watch out at nappy change time!
They also nick each others cups, biscuits, etc. Was really funny watching rav chasing akshay round and round earlier, until he gave up and jsut yanked him over backwards! Akshay lays their screaming, and rav looks at me as if to say well I didn't do anything.
They may be smiley, but they aren't always cute! I think now, I get more questions about their colouring than the twins cliches. I think I prefered the twin questions too!

Half term has started for us now, and I ahve no plans whatsoever yet. Hopefully we'll allg et thru the week in one piece!

MarsOnLife · 13/02/2006 12:22

Well it's half term. So what's on in the Mars household?

Diddly squat! That's what.

DS1 has gone to visit his bm, DD1 has her bm over here, DD2 has a friend over, DT1 is crying cos she can't find Dora (the doll), DT2 is playing with a Noddy car whilst looking for things to destroy in the kitchen. Now he's playing with the kitchen I got him for his birthday.

That's pretty much the week sorted!

FrumpyGrumpy · 15/02/2006 17:41

Hi all!

The DTs are driving me potty. They are asserting themsevles about absolutely everything and complaining all the way. Mars, does age 2 bring any benefit? Happy Birthday to your wee ones by the way. DT2 loves a kitchen too (DD's from when she was 2), do you think we have budding Chef's? Hope so!!!

DT1 has a runny nose which caused her lovely mop of hair to be stuck hard all over her face this morning (nice) and DT2 is teething and has a very runny and nippy (nice) bottom. DD is off school and had a friend over yesterday (anyone else find this tips a sinking ship into rapid plunge?).

I'm on a hormone rollercoaster again and feel fine now but felt like I had two heads this morning. Not good. I'm not overweight and we eat quite healthily but thought I might try overhauling my diet to see if that can help. I don't normally suffer cravings but last night I just had to eat all manner of crap (3 bags of crisps and as many sweets/biscuits as I could find ). Felt disgusted with myself today and have just prepared all manner of good things to make healthy soup with when the babes are in bed tonight. I have to find a way to stop the hormone surges. I like the ones that make me a hornbag but the rest are just trouble.

God I blah blah a lot.

Peaceful nights all x.

How you doing FG?

DT2 has the pox! DT1 despite being exposed at the same time as him has declined them. Bet she gets them just as DT2 recovers.

So... it's been a longish week. DD2 went to France with her friend. We had my nephew come for a few days. DS1, DD1 and DN are all old enough to take themselves out and about (swimming, cinema etc).

Have had horrendous nights with DT2, but I think (please God) that the worst is over. Not keen on DT1 getting it but ah well........ the joys.........

School again tomorrow. The kids are looking forward to seeing their friends again, and I'm looking forward to not seeing them for a few hours in the day.

We've got friends coming to stay tomorrow evening and we're going to see Mary Poppins on Tuesday evening. Looking forward to that.

Have got a wedding to go to on Saturday (am betting that that's gonna be DT1's pox day). Just need an outfit to wear.

Where are you Kelly? Are you under a huge burden of study?

Harrogatemum how's it going?

Hi to the others... whose names I can't quite remember (and I'm far too lazy to read down the thread).

Kelly1978 · 20/02/2006 09:47

Sorry to hear the dts are getting uner the weather. I'm not even going to tell you mine are healthy and happy in case it jinxes it. They are little monsters actually, getting so clever and they know it. Ravi is really trying to walk now.

Ds has his last assesment group today, then a medical on thursday. Hopefully soon I will get the outcome. I don't know now if they are going to diagnose him or not. They have picked up on quite a few issues, but I'm not sure how they are going to link it all together.

Def under a mountain of study. I'm really glad I only took one course this year, as it really is taking hours this time. First tutorial this weekend. How did yours go, mars?

MarsOnLife · 20/02/2006 13:20

My tutorial was fine.

Fortunately I have a good tutor and a nice tutor at that. He gave the extension without blinking. Apparently his 2 children have just had it so he was full of sympathy.

I would be studying now but the cleaner didn't come and I've got guests coming for the week. I've just finished a quick sandwich and now to clean whilst the twins are at playgroup. Max is all dried up!

Kelly1978 · 20/02/2006 16:44

Glad to hear he's on the mend. I want to scream!
Ravi is getting very demanding from 4pm onwards. It's been a week now of screaming fits around teatime. I'm not allowed out of the room, and that's not fun when I have so much tidying up to do and teas to sort out. Plus akshay keeps biting him, since he has worked out that it gets a reaction from him and me. He's nto clingy at all during the daytime now so I don't know why he has to start this time of day. I keep tellign myself it's jsut a phase but I hope it passes soon!

harrogatemum · 21/02/2006 13:23

hello all - we are doing fine except DTs are still sick. Got one hours kip last night as they were both up at different times, either coughing themselves stupid or just generally screaming. My Mum is STILL going on about how i was never ill as a child and I plan to ask my doc to look through my notes next time I go to see if I was. My Mum insists she hasnt forgotten and that i never had colds as a baby...........just succeeds in laying on more guilt!

FrumpyGrumpy · 21/02/2006 14:48

Hi all!

My pc only works if I go the treadmill next to it to power it so hence ...... and the mouse broke so have just plugged in the replacement and hey ho!

THE POX . I'm scared, no-one had it in this house and I'm especially worried about dd since she's 5 now and since she's been so poorly with other stuff I don't know how her body would handle it! Tell me what actually happens, I've had it but only remember the itch....

Kelly, I think this is the worst time of night eh! That's when the bar opens in this house and I try to surf the waves until 7/8pm.

Harrogate mum, your mum has just allowed her brain to disengage its memory banks. I sometimes find myself saying similar about my dd1 when comparing the DTs (she NEVER did that). Then I think harder. We go from illness to illness too and I'm trying to say that we're building up great immunity for the future. Let it wash over you, breathe out the frustration and breathe in the voice in your own head!!! Good luck.

Been at a gym thing with the DTs. Need a new head now, this one has spun off.

School ruuuuuuuuun.

MarsOnLife · 22/02/2006 00:24

Hi all.

HM... your mother is talking out of the wrong orifice!!!!!!!!!! Besides, twins are notorious for passing things back and forth.

FG... glad to see you back.

Kelly.......... tell me about it! Sometimes the evenings are far too long.

DT1 still not got the pox. I think she's waiting for the playgroup photographer. So I'll have a beautiful picture of a spotty dotty and DT2.

Kelly1978 · 22/02/2006 08:58

I juinxed mine, and we all have colds! Nothing too bad, but a lot of snotty noses, me included. I'm hoping since we all got it at the same time it will clear up quickly. Otherwise it can take weeks before everyone is well. dd is off school, dp is driving himself to work and so we're all hibernating in pjs!
I have loads of study to do before tutorial on sat as well, third year law is heavy going! I'm really going to have to put hours in.

FrumpyGrumpy · 22/02/2006 21:44

Damn the colds Kelly, got plenty Karvol plug ins? One up each nostril I think!!

Hey Mars, how did the Noddy photo shoot go and where can we view the end result?!!

I'm on a real down at the mo. Can't explain but has hung around for a bit. Trying to shake it.

OP posts:
MarsOnLife · 23/02/2006 19:52

Hi FG.... what can I do to make you smile again? Do you want to come and visit on your lone for a few days?

The photo shoot went really really well! Will let you know when the catalogue thingy is printed and where you can find it.

How are they doing Kelly? I'm so impressed. Law! I was tempted, but will wait and see how much I enjoy this course.

DT2 completely dried up. DT1 has been eating as though starved today. No sign of the dreaded pox, but then the playgroup photographer isn't due until the 1st. lol

Ooh, I'm doing my best not to worry (and it's mostly working) but the school offers come out at the end of next week, and I really really really do have a favourite school for DD1. My second choice is also a good one, and very popular. When I think about it too much my heart beats over fast lol. So, not gonna think about it much more.

I'm off to bookgroup tonight.

Ooh let me quickly tell you about my week. A friend (that we met on holiday almost 3 years ago) came to stay this week with her DD. They arrived Monday evening. On Tuesday we went to Mme Tussauds, The Tower of London and then on to see Mary Poppins at the theatre. Wonderful day. Bookgroup tonight, off to see A Midsummer's Night Dream on Friday night and then a wedding with a party (leaving the DTs with a sitter... whooooo hooooo!) on Saturday.

Right... that's me done. DT2 was under the weather today, but perked up in time for bed lol.

goldenoldie · 26/02/2006 19:46

Can I join?

I have 3 month old b/b non-id twins. They have started going through the night (with some training) and I'm feeling human again. Also have a 10 year old DS1. Yes, we are a three boy household.............

Due back to work in June and am really looking forward to it. Much easier than staying home with babies. Naughty mummy.........................

Any tips for going back to work?

harrogatemum · 26/02/2006 19:50

hi goldenoldie - welcome to the multiple births thread!! I have 15 month old non id boy twins, they are gorgeous but an absolute handful. I work 4 days a week 10 to 4 with a half hour drive on either end. To be honest I feel guilty when I'm at work that I'm not at home and guilty when I'm at home that I'm not working harder (have quite a responsible job). My advice would be try not to care when you have to take time off due to the babes - I am constantly having to ring in and say I am working from home due to their various coughs/colds etc.

Anyway there are loads of lovely ladies on here who will give you lots of advice- Mars, Kelly, Frumpygrumpy and more!!!

MarsOnLife · 26/02/2006 19:51

of course you can join Welcome!!!!!!!!!! I remember 3 months lol. My DTs are now 2.

As to tips for returning to work... I'm thinking that work is overrated lol.

Glad to have you with us, but for now I need to wash DD2's hair as she should've been in bed 30mins ago.

harrogatemum · 26/02/2006 19:52

hi MArs

goldenoldie · 26/02/2006 22:01

Thanks for the welcome ladies. Will be picking your brains.

MarsOnLife · 26/02/2006 22:50

Hi HM... sorry was rushing out the door to youthgroup when I posted earlier.

How are things going with you and your darlings? Well I hope.

Still waiting on DT1 to get the dreaded pox. DT2 completely over it. Just a couple of dried up spots to vanish. You'd never know he had it lol.

Went to see A Midsummer's Night's Dream on Friday. It was brilliant. Really gotten me in the mood for my course (which I ought to be doing right now).

harrogatemum · 27/02/2006 08:31

well not bad - still got one with a nasty cough that doesnt seem to be going away. Could be another trip to the docs this week, plus DT2 has his EEG scan on Wednesday.....

goldenoldie · 27/02/2006 08:35

Mars - what course are you doing? Sounds interesting.
