No fetal movement in a day and a half

29 weeks with twins. Had scan last Wednesday. Went perfect. Heartbeat great, size great ect. However I haven't had movement in a day and a half since yesterday. Going to ring midwife first thing tomorrow to get in for a check.

Somethings terribly wrong isn't it? This can't be normal.

It's 8 at night. The won't scan at this time. I'm in Ireland. I didn't really cop it until this evening that things had been quiet. I'm obviously really annoyed at myself

Surely they have a maternity assessment unit that is open 24/7. With both my babies it said on a large sticker on the front of my book to call this 24 hour number of movements reduced. Please call tonight.

mrmagpie · 06/11/2023 20:24

Call. Call now. Please don't wait.

Twins is a high risk pregnancy in the first place. When I was pregnant with my third baby I had to go in for monitoring every other day because of low/no movement. I was scanned loads of times at different times of day and nobody was ever bothered, they were always just pleased I was there.

Don't put it off. Nobody will mind what time it is.

MaliciaKeys · 06/11/2023 20:24

Please don't wait until tomorrow.

PlusOneTwoThree · 06/11/2023 20:24

What the actual fuck?! It’s already been a day and a half and you want to leave it another 13/14 hours?!

Get to the hospital ffs!!

VariantHela · 06/11/2023 20:25

Go to hospital, they will absolutely scan you

almay · 06/11/2023 20:26

OP, I’m also in Ireland and the maternity hospitals all have assessment units open 24/7. They’d always much rather see you and everything be fine than you wait and be worrying somethings wrong.

Sunshineclouds11 · 06/11/2023 20:26

MAU will 100% check you out.
Hooked up to monitor etc.

I wouldn't wait around

ThisIsntThe80sPat · 06/11/2023 20:26

Please call up the hospital, op. You need to be seen asap.

Weepingskies · 06/11/2023 20:27

I’m a doctor. Please listen to everyone’s advice and go now. It’s absolutely the right thing to do. I hope everything is fine but it’s important that you’re assessed ASAP.

FoFanta · 06/11/2023 20:28

I'm a midwife in a rural Irish hospital, and they absolutely will scan you on the Labour Ward if you go in with reduced movement - at any time of day or night. Please call the Delivery Suite of the hospital that you are booked at, let them know what is happening and they will advise you to go in to be checked over.

JNW11 · 06/11/2023 20:28

They won't scan but they will get you on the monitor for heartbeat then get you booked in for tomorrow for a scan!

ApolloandDaphne · 06/11/2023 20:29

I do hope you are on your way to get checked out.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 06/11/2023 20:29

You likely don't need a scan you probably need a CTG! Which they do in triage 24/7 and they use them on labour ward to monitor contractions. I had one today. Always always call immediately.

Also never ever assume it's pointless to call. You are not one of the medics, you do not know what is needed or that they won't do a scan. If you call them now and they tell you to come in for scan tomorrow thats fine, but you should never assume what care you need or will be offered.

RosiePeel · 06/11/2023 20:30

This can't be for real surely?

Monkeypopcorn · 06/11/2023 20:31

They won't scan for reduced movement anyway. They'll do heart rate monitoring, I had it twice with my first, and called the number printed all over my notes straight away. They will be glad you called, you won't be wasting anyone's time.

EasterIssland · 06/11/2023 20:31

I’ve been at any time there also I’ve had the monitors for heart beat multiple times without scan , it’s not the only way to check the heartbeat. I’d be on my way to hospital if I was you

applesandmares · 06/11/2023 20:31

When I went in for reduced movements it wasn't a scan but they checked with a Doppler and then put me on a monitor for 40 minutes or so. Don't wait, call triage now. It's almost always fine, but if it isn't, your best chance at helping yourself and your babies is to get there asap x

Winnipeggy · 06/11/2023 20:31

whatevss · 06/11/2023 19:59

Of course they'll scan. It'll be a mobile ultrasound available on the unit 24/7.

Not all hospitals. I've been into my local (large - with maternity unit) hospital more than once at weekends and been told there's nobody available to scan. Unbelievable but unfortunately true.

Cropcycle · 06/11/2023 20:31

I hope you have been or are being checked out OP and that all is ok .

Gill123789 · 06/11/2023 20:32

You need to call and be seen immediately

I had both : scan and monitor. I was In hospital for most of my pregnancy cuz of it.

StacieBenson · 06/11/2023 20:33

I went in with reduced movement and I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia. They couldn't scan but they put me on a CTG monitor and checked my blood pressure/urine, which led to me being admitted into hospital. Please go in - your baby may not be able to wait until tomorrow.

TLDR - Call the hospital!

Dreamingofthishouse · 06/11/2023 20:33

Definitely will scan you, on holidays in Ireland I had a scan at 11pm at night ( not a major city hospital either!)

Lndnmummy · 06/11/2023 20:33

OP, go in. Sending much love.
