@ 'bagpiss'!

Morning girls x

Good luck to James, hope the paper went well trips!

Shabs, dh takes great delight in having various holiday locations we have (or he has) been too on his ipad weather app and showing me how it is hotter in every single one of them on a regular basis! Apparently it was 34C in LA yest - I don't want to know!!!

I'm really not sleeping well atm. jack has been struggling a bit this year, and his symptoms have gone really bad again after a long break when he has been really good. The school do a residential next May and there is a lot of pressure on every child to attend - the whole summer topic curriculum is based around it.

Jack went on the school residential in year 4 after lots of promises about how they were going to support him, and came back knackered because he didn't get any rest and they put him in a room with 3 other children, one of whom also has asd and kept them up all night. I had doubts about it anyway, but we were sort of coerced into it.

So he doesn't want to go on this one, he best (and only) friend also doesnt want to go, and I'm not going to make him. So now I will have his teacher and the HT on my back and possibly his trying to force the issue. :(

Jack is currently undergoing connors 3 testing for adhd. I did the forms earlier this week. I don't think J does have adhd at all, though he did score quite highly. But Shay scored VERY highly when I ran him through it. I've requested assessment for him now. The school really struggled with him through year 2 and he is constantly getting in trouble again this year. He is extremely lively, cocky, crap with other children, often aggressive, OCD type tendencies, unpredictable and very bright. Sounds charming, but he is brilliant with adults, and great fun. Just doesn't cope very well around other children, at home he usually hangs out with us rather than the other kids. The problem is that this school is totally shit with sn, and I now worried I have totally picked the wrong school for him.

bagpuss · 18/10/2012 07:26

Morning!

Shabs, just before I posted that last night I did wonder whether I'd got the wrong end of the stick. Dh always lectures me about foreign travel during the current climate (not that we could ever afford it, but still), although I know plenty of people who've been to Greece and Spain with no problems, he worries I suppose.

Lol @ bagpiss Grin. I've been called many things...

((((trips))))

Chops, that's a lot of pressure for you as a parent. Our school do a residential in y3,4,5 and 6 which is expensive and almost everyone goes. I'm getting really fed up with is, particularly as we've had two children go each year for the last four years. That's a lot of money - we haven't had a family holiday since 2007 Sad. That aside I think it can be good for kids to go although I noticed a few children with sn hadn't gone this year which I think is poor on the schools part as they maintain they want the trip to be inclusive!

I think a lot of primarys can appear bad with sn. Ours doesn't support g&t at all, but loves to point out the shortcomings of some children. I still haven't totally forgiven them for trying to put ds2 on their sn register because he couldn't say the letter l when he spoke (he was 4 at the time). Funnily enough he can speak perfectly well now!

Must go and wake ds2 who still hasn't surfaced, most unlike him!

Chopstheduck · 18/10/2012 07:37

Our primary just has a crap senco that doesn't recognise sensory processing issues at all. :(

i do agree it is good for them to go, but this will be his third year of camping with the BB so he gets the socialisation bit from that. Plus its £50 cheaper for 7 nights as opposed to the schools 4 and they give Jack a private room and rest breaks when he needs them.

Not supporting G&T is bad too. I can remember how much support some G&T children needed when I helped out in a class for sn for a year - it equalled the children with sn. . :( I remember this adorable little lad who was G&T for maths, absolutely brilliant. But his literacy wasn't in the same league, so I'd sit and help him read the maths text and he would whizz through the answers. Must be over 12 years ago but he still sticks in my head, I think it was the way he was so appreciative of the help and clearly loved being able to actually access the work.

shabbatheGreek · 18/10/2012 07:40

Bagpuss - not got the wrong end of the stick totally. Athens and mainland Greece seem to be in the deepest poo. I suppose that it 'filters down' IYKWIM - there were several bars closed in Faliraki that have been there many years. My Mum said I wasn't allowed to go because they are rioting in Greece and she didn't want me getting hurt Grin I will be 56 in a few weeks time!!!

Chops parts of your description (in fact several parts) of how Shay is sound very, very like my Tom.

bubby64 · 18/10/2012 12:40

Trips - DK certainly seems to be living up to his name, whatever he has done, as he has obviously upset you big time!
Bagpus - sorry again for the name, BlushBlush - we made it clear to both the school and our two very early on that they would not be doing all residential trips, as we just could not afford it, luckily, there were 3 other sets of twins in their primary class, and only one set went to everything, so my 2 were not alone.
ChopsWe were also lucky that the school were supportive in all senco needs, both educational and physical, and at both ends of the scale, it does make a huge difference! I hope you get both DS sorted out soon, and if DS doesnt want to go on the trip, stick to your guns...he will get nothing out of it if he is not enjoying it.

bagpuss · 18/10/2012 13:51

Chops, it is sad that the school can't support your ds as well as BB can, but nice that there is a way he gets to experience all the same things his peers do. I am baffled as to why our primary don't support g&t too. In fact given that they want such good sats results from y6 you would think that they would actively try to push it for those that need it. Mind you, we are still waiting for ds1s sats results and he took them in june Hmm.

Shabs, lol @ your mum! But at least she cares!

Bubby, ds1 has also been warned not to expect any more large trips in secondary. He went on this years' one which was two days at £110 but unless there is an educational need for skiing in Austria, he won't be going on that or anything else I don't see as essential.

Having a nice day here, did some baking earlier and now dts are playing with duplo while I try to work out what I can get for stocking fillers for Christmas this year. I am stuck on ds1 and dh says that every idea I have had so far is not cool enough Confused. So, wise ones, what should go in the stocking of a 12 year old boy?

Chopstheduck · 18/10/2012 14:33

Isn't it just tempting sometimes to home educate?! Grin

I don't think we will be doing any of the senior school ones, they run into hundreds of £s. For the cost of some of those, we could ALL have a holiday, and the kids would prefer that too.

DD last year wanted I think around £400 to go to Paris, we had gone twice already that year, and the second time we paid less than that for us all to get there and cover accommodation. Not a chance!

Hmm, stockings. I'm def going to get Jack some new shin pads, I might get him an Angry Birds USB stick (handy for taking stuff to mates, or school work), sweets, other than that pretty clueless really. Prob harlequins or chelsea related little bits! Jack loves cuddly toys too, prob get him a quins beanie bear, not sure most 12 year old boys are into cuddlies though!

shabbatheGreek · 18/10/2012 16:01

Tom has a tiny beanie kind of puppy dog and a grey (soft toy) elephant. When I move them and put them in a drawer they come right back out again. It makes me snigger when I go in his room in the morning....the room stinks of boy, is generally messy and there he lies with a soft toy under each arm!!

triplets · 18/10/2012 22:59

Right...............havent really got the energy to do this but here goes. School.................bloody bloody school. In Deal we have a choice of two secondary schools. For the last few years rumours have been going around about them merging. Then we get dropped a bomb shell, a proposal has been set for it to go ahead. The other school has Academy status, so is independant of our local Kent County Council, a diff ball game altogether. They called a meeting last night with the governors etc and it was plain, our school will close, our teachers will lose their jobs, our students will all move to the new school which is to be built on the other school site. No one wants this from our side of the fence. It will mean a huge new super school for our town, no choice for parents. They call it a merger, it is take over. It will all start from Sept 2013. Mine are yr 10, just coming up to gcses, infact James sat a paper y/day.
The teachers are stressed, and what is going to happen?
Well they are not going to sty on a sinking ship, they will get out to find jobs and our kids will be left with supply teachers at a crucial time.
The meeting was very emotional and heated.
I asked dk to come with me, he has never ever been inside the school since the nightwe went to look round it, over 3 years ago.
He instead had a hot bath and several gins.
I fed 4 kids, and walked up to school at 7pm.
Left just gone 10pm, it was pouring and I walked the long way round instead of the short cut as it was very dark.
Got home at 10.20pm.
All kids still up, dk in the kitchen just clearing up.
He said Iwas late...........where had I been..........."talking"?
I said it was a pity he couldnt make the effort to be with me for support, and I was wet and had to walk the long way home. He said "why didnt you find someone to walk with".
Because they all had cars and I didnt. He then went to throw away some left over pizza. I said dont I am hungry.
He said........"why didn`t you have something before you went"?
"BECAUSE I WAS COOKING AND FEEDING 4 KIDS AND YOUR SUPPER AND I RAN OUT OF TIME"

Exit to my bed.

Today we get a call of a firm sighting of Ollie, my beautiful cat. At 8.30am I am running to the house has was seen, they were sure it was him. Nothing.
At 5pm I get another call from another house, they have him in their kitchen, it matches our desription. My heart is pounding, I send dk and James with the cat basket, it comes back empty, it was not him :(

The also today I got 4 text messages from school urging us to make sure our children stay away from the "other" school meeting which was tonight. The local paper headlines today was "school to close". The kids had been told by parents what was said at the meeting last night. So today in school they started a riot!! Mainly started by girls in yr 10 inc Rebecca bloody Peace!!! So she comes home from school with a girl I have never seen before, the boys told me this girl had hit a boy last week and knocked two teeth out! They went upstairs, came down and said they were going out to meet up with other friends and were going to stage a silent protest meeting at the other school. She was grounded, well and truly grounded.

Its been a lovely day all in all...................

Chopstheduck · 19/10/2012 06:18

Morning girls xx

Oh Trips - that is utter crap poo. Thats exactly the kind of thing that my DK would do as well. He last came up to Toms school in year 7 for his first parents evening.....Tom leaves next Easter!!! I hate it how I am always the one who sorts things out. Thats with just one child - I dont know how you manage with 'sorting things out' with 3.

I swear that if my DK says just one more time....'Do you know where......is?, Where have YOU put my.......etc etc I WILL kill him!!

I hope today is a better day xxx

triplets · 20/10/2012 00:54

Evening............Chops very pleased to hear your news re J, nice not to have to battle for everything! A quieter day today except local press really blasting out the message of closure, its the talk of the town and a huge worry. I sulked tonight and would not have supper, only two pomegranites:o I felt very tired, cooked early for the kids as its ATC night, then asked dk if w could have fish n chips. No, he has no money. So I said , huh well it will have to be cold leftover chicken and chips..............then he sulked as that to him is not a proper meal. So he got the best of the leftovers, the cat got the rest and I got the pomegranites!! Good innit?

shay just woke the entire house up, so a bright early start for me! Hmm

Spent all day yesterday traipsing round Wembley, hoping to relax a bit today. It's a hindu festival time - Navratri, so it was MANIC! Got lots of nice Indian sweets and snacks and once I've done my comping will sit down in front of the footy and stuff my face partake in some delicacies!

Yes its all utter crap and its all about money. Very worrying, another thing to add to my list!!
Really miserable here today, throwing it down, windy, just love days stuck in when everyone is boredddddddddd.

bubby64 · 21/10/2012 21:54

Trips - What a crap thing to happen with the school, you would think, like Chops said, they would have a changeover period, they have done that in this area where the 3 tier system is changing to the 2 tier, schools have had 3yrs to a)build extra classrooms at primary schools and at hight schools and b) ensure that the teaching staff find posts in either one or the other.
Parents were not happy witht he changes, but at least they are doing it in the best way possible. Also, your DK needs a good slapping!!
Hi Ruby - going in disguise now???
Boys have done a sports day with Young Farmers today, their team came overall 2nd out of 6, considering its a newly formed branch with only 15 members, and only 8 could attend, they didnt do so badly.

Hello all - I have been lurking again, haven't posted as I don't have any advice re the school/ teenagerdom

We are now into week 4 of illness/ear infections/colds/d&v bugs
Very helpfully when we were on our 8th drs visit she said - well now they're in day care you can expect them to get lots of bugs (!)
I pointed out that they had actually started getting "all these bugs" within 1 week of being discharged from hospital at 37 weeks ( nearly was a readmittance but for the feeding tube) and did she mean I shouldn't bring them then?
She conceded that no that's not what she meant - still left feeling as though she thought I was wasting her time.

I too am thankful it is half term here although J and E will still go to their childminders so I can do my planning in peace!

Have a good day everyone Smile
