Morning all...............sat up in bed, window wide open watching the sea gulls on the roof opposite, gawd they make a racket! No plans to do anything this w/end, skint big time..............my dd is causing me grief, every w/e she wants out with her mates, that mean money and I cant afford to keep giving it to her. Today she is wanting to go to Canterbury to the cinema with 2 friends, with bus fare etc it means about £11, she gets £5 pocket money same as the boys! Dh says she can go, so he will have to find the money! Thomas is going to RAF Wittering tomorrow, somewhere your direction Rubes? Flying in a 2 seater and doing a loop the loop <img loading="lazy" class="inline-flex mumsnet-emoji" alt="Shock" src="https://www.mumsnet.com/build/assets/shock-7MJQdU1X.png">. Had my appt with their new head y/day, walked in and felt at first like I was on trial! Not only her but the new deputy and another man, they are the team brought in to turn the school around after the dreadful Ofsted. Anyway I was having abit of a wobbly day, felt panicky for other reasons, told them how frustrated I felt with the consultations etc, told them how ill their Dad was etc and how some of the teachers still didnt know that etc. She then asked me how old H was, that led to me telling them that we had the kids because we lost Matthew and my concerns over their hearts etc. Her eyes filled with tears and she put her hand over mine and then told me her daughter died aged 14 of sudden death too :(:(:( I just couldnt believe it, that just about finished me off...................it always comes back to you when you least expect it doesnt it Shabs? xx

Hopstheduck · 28/11/2011 08:26

I'm knackered too. Went to see MIL yest, took 3.5 hours to get home Bloody london traffic. Everywhere we turned we hit another queue. Will be glad to see the back of the kids today!

There is a frost outside, and I'm now worrying about my veg. I've never grown veggies in winter before, usually pack it all up for winter. What happens when it snows??

triplets · 28/11/2011 14:24

you compost it! We have an allotment, planted up for Spring, just picked the last of our lettuce!

OP posts:
Hopstheduck · 28/11/2011 15:07

I'm being thick I think - do I put compost over it? I've got leeks, onions, garlic, broccoli, radishes and peas. According to the packets they are supposed to grow over winter and be harvested come spring.

Rubester................cmon, spill the beans............who did you meet, tell tell tell!! Hops, I was being funny, meaning if you lose it you chuck it in the compost bin! Anything you have planted now for Spring should survive, its called over wintering. If you want to you can cover up with fleece, H doesnt usually bother and we always have a good crop come the Spring. He planted new strawberry plants 2 weeks ago! Anything you need to know about growing veg just ask H!
Where`s that Shabs woman??

Morning girls xx

The 'lurgy' has got Tom!!!

Eventually, about 1 am, I made a makeshift bed on his floor. He was burning hot, coughing, sneezing etc etc. Left his window open a little...he is not great with central heating at the best of times. Covered him with Vick...cough medicine, flu capsules....I have been awake ages and he is snoring away!!!

Hopstheduck · 29/11/2011 08:28

duh! Knew i was being thick... Grin Didn't know could plant strawberries this time of the year neither!

Poor Tom, hope he is feeling better soon.

My stomach hurts, shouldn't have eaten those falafels last night. Sad

bubby64 · 29/11/2011 15:16

Hi All, Shabs, glad you are better, but get well wishes to Tom.
Hops- sorry about teeth, hope op comes soon.
Trips - ((hugs)) [i no its very unPC on here, but sent with feeling!]
Already exhausted and its only Tuesday, worked the weekend as well, so knackered!
Having real probs with life insurance policy which matures in 2 weeks, I cant claim it as our solicitor who we used to buy this house 13yrs ago did not get it transferred back to me after it was assigned to our previous morgage company, and now that company has been liquidated in Oct this yr, and is part owned by the govements of Belgian, France and Luxenburg, who bailed them out! The only way out that we can get the money (a substantial amount to put on our mortgage) is to pay a solicitor £200 plus vat to declare that this previous mortgage company has no further interest in the money, and its ours to have! AngryThat would be our Christmas money! Why should we pay to get our own money, so we have put a complaint into both our insurance people (Aviva) and solicitors, and hope it gets sortedSad

shabbapinkfrog · 30/11/2011 06:52

Morning girls....from a freeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzing cold, grey Bolton Sad OMG I hate Winter x

oooggs · 30/11/2011 07:02

Morning ladies, I hate the cold too Shabs, couldn't live up north! All 4 children home today cos of strikes. If I hadn't taken redundancy last year then I probably would have been as well as a civil servant - what a mess! Friends have been told you can't take annual leave for childcare. So not a great deal of choice anyway.

shabbapinkfrog · 30/11/2011 07:22

Both Dan and Em work for local government. Danny was not going to strike...he cant afford to loose a days pay. They were both told yesterday that if they went on strike today...there would be a danger of them loosing their jobs next April. Of course I, and they, know that is not legal BUT they are both terrified at the prospect. So they are both going in today....Lew is already here and they have gone in extra early trying to avoid the picket line. No matter what my views are on them not joining in the strike I realise they feel they have no other option. Danny, especially, is very afraid of going in work because he works in the main Town Hall building and knows that they will be picketing there very early.

oooggs · 30/11/2011 07:57

The country is in an absolute mess. I am not political due to not understanding but some of the things I see I just don't get. Like this extra funding for 2 years old. Not sure how that helps as not enough hours to enable anyone to work. Maybe more hours for 3 year olds? I don't know any answers just seeing dumb decisions being made.

shabbapinkfrog · 30/11/2011 09:58

Oh dont even get me started on the shitty mess we are in. Chinless wonders for politicians. People who have no idea what its like to be on benefits after working all your life. The amount of people I speak to who think we get loads of dosh on benefits is hysterical....we actually get about half of what we used to pay in Nat Ins and tax every week. We swim in treacle. I dont expect to be rich on benefits but I do expect to be able to eat and stay warm....not ONE or the OTHER.

Our boys headmaster had said the school would open "no matter what!", and so it has. they asked for CRB checked parents who could help to go in if neccessary, but apparently nearly all the staff were going in anyway. The High School was closed except for yr 9.
Must admit tho, having worked and having friends in both public and private sectors, I was surprised to realise how blinkered some my long term public sector worker friends were to what has, in reality, been going on with a lot of us in the private sector for the past 2 or more years! Threatened job losses, no pay rise, increase in pension contribution despite less pension, (which is also not totally ringfenced and guarunteed, which public sectors are), and in a lot of cases, including my DH, actually taking a pay cut in order to keep the job! We are not rich bankers, just normal everyday working people. [Now leaving the soapbox free for the next person, and sitting with head down in the corner awaiting the flackWink]
