Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
lovecamping · 24/03/2008 22:52

i've just had a look. since it is the easter hols, would it be worth getting there when it opens (10am) before it gets really mad and busy??

JingleyJen · 24/03/2008 22:58

sorry to Hijack your thread.. DH is Chinese, I am English, I have been invited to go to a Chinese mum's toddler group. I love the idea of DS's spending more time with other Chinese /half Chinese children... However, I am being a total girly wuss..
Please tell me that it will be ok and that all the Chinese mums won't look at me and my boys and suggest that I shouldn't be there.

lovecamping · 24/03/2008 23:07

i do understand that these things can be nerve-racking. how did you get invited?
i'm sure they would not have invited you if they didnt want to you to be there. try not to worry and have a nice time. if the mums do happen to be stand-offish, then dont go back!

JingleyJen · 24/03/2008 23:17

there is a lovely lady who has just adopted her daughter 6 months ago and wants to get involved in the "toddler circuit" so she is starting a group so that her daughter can get to know some other Chinese children. (Mum and Dad are Chinese) she has called all the mums she knows that are Chinese or who have Chinese children (by birth or adoption) in the area.. this will be the 2nd time they have got together.

lovecamping · 24/03/2008 23:24

so its a new group which means everyone will be getting to know each other anyway so all in the same boat IYKWIM. i'm sure it'll be nice and since she's asked you along, there'll be a friendly face and definitely be someone that you can chat to.

the only thing i have thought of would be the language issue and if some mums started talking in mandarin/cantonese etc, it might be a bit difficult but i'm sure they'll be other mums in the same situation.

there is another chinese mum on a very busy toddler group that i go to, however we've never spoken to each other in cantonese (i'm a very poor speaker).
I've also viewed toddler groups as a place for kids to play with other toys, kids do some arts & crafts stuff and the meeting other mums bit is a bonus. some sessions i can talk for 5 mins, other sessions i'm too busy chasing around my toddler.

hope this helps, but please dont worry or get to nervous. it'll be fine.

snowmum · 26/03/2008 21:58

Lovecamping - was about to email you as this meet up is in your neck of the woods. Glad to hear you and your brood can make it. Happy to meet a bit earlier, didn't realise it would still be Easter hols.

JingleyJen - good luck with the toddler group. Its always a bit scary the first time you go but I'm sure it'll be fine.

Sonjia · 27/03/2008 18:10

what is CAT? How do i CAT someone?

lovecamping · 27/03/2008 20:08

hi sonjia

CAT is just a way of contacting another mumsnetter without posting email addresses. you will need to register with mumsnet and then pay £5.00 for the year.

hope that helps.

which part of SE london do you live in? i'm in SE london ....

Sonjia · 02/04/2008 13:48

hello lovecamping I live in Greenwich Peninsula in those funky coloured flats near the River. We've been living here for over 3 years now. I work in Canary Wharf so its nice and close.

lovecamping · 02/04/2008 20:14

i live near Catford. whats the view like?? i have ventured that much further than the sainsburys and See Woo's. i keep saying that i must take the kids to the wildlife park that is there as dd2 is mad about wildlife. have you been? is it good?

lovecamping · 02/04/2008 20:59

hi everyone, i was just checking the date fo our meetup. most recent post said friday 19th april, however friday is the 18th (dh's birthday) and the 19th is a saturday (in April).

so is it friday 18th at 10am???

snowmum · 03/04/2008 22:45

Sorry, my fault. Still sleep deprived. Date for meet up is Friday 18th April from 10am onwards at Discovery Planet, Surrey Quays.

Not sure if anyone has tried to CAT me but I forgot to renew my CAT subscription and it ran out in December! Have renewed now so can receive messages again.

Sonjia · 04/04/2008 15:01

I would have loved to come along and meet you all but my DD's bday falls on this very day! Hope you all have fun and I'll defo be up for the next meet up.

Lovecamping - The ecology park you talking about is great and yes I have been inside a few times. Its always bustling with school groups and mums with strollers and toddlers etc. They have lots of birdlife in there and on warmer days you can spot koi in the ponds. There are certain weekends where they have kiddies days too. My flat looks out onto the park and Thames Barrier so makes for a pleasant view :-)

wyls · 15/04/2008 09:27

Hi

I havent been on here for a long time but I am looking forwarding to seeing you all on Fri.

Snowmum, just found out that champagne18 might not be able to make it cos DD might have chicken pox. she's going to let me know later.

see you all then xxx

lovecamping · 15/04/2008 20:28

hi everyone, really looking forward to meeting everyone.

Sonjia - thanks for the info about the ecology park. we were going to go yesterday but DH is ill, so a bit annoyed really.
i'm also hosting a coffee morning at my house on tuesday 29th april from 10-12pm if you want to come. i'm probably about 15mins drive from greenwich or a bus ride away. if you CAT me i can yet you knopw all the details.

snowmum · 15/04/2008 21:42

Wyls, sorry to hear that Champagne18 might not be able to make it. Hopefully her DD doesn't have chicken pox, both my DD's had chicken pox earlier this year. Seems to be doing the rounds.

Sonjia, sorry to hear you won't be able to make it. Hope to meet you another time.

Lovecamping, I'll email and CAT you (just in case my email address for you isn't current any more!) with my mobile number. I'm aiming to arrive around 10:30am.

MomOnTheRun, are you still planning to drop in on us? I'll email and CAT you too.

Final call for any others who might like to join in the mayhem!

champagne18 · 16/04/2008 11:09

Hi Everyone,

Sorry i won't be able to make it this Friday. I was so looking forward to meeting everyone. It has been a long time since our last meet up.

DD has indeed got chickenpox. DS hasn't got it yet which i'm a bit surprised. The bad news is DD is still mostly likey to catch chickenpox again. This is due to her immune system still being immature.

I hope you all have a good time and i will just have to look forward to the next meet.

lovecamping · 16/04/2008 18:06

champagne18 - how old is yr DD? DD1 got it when she was 4 months and i think it really gave her immune system a boost; she is by far the healthiest of all of us and hardly gets sick. its quite funny given that she was the one who was FF and the other two BF for at least 6 months!!

Really looking forward to meeting everyone. snowmum - got yr emails and have replied - thank you.

i'll be the mum who is screaming at her kids to behave!

Sonjia · 17/04/2008 13:31

Hi All, I might be able to make it tomorrow. I dont know how to register to be able to CAT (sorry a bit thick!), checked the MN site but not too sure where to look. My email is [email protected] if someone doesnt mind sending me the details. Otherwise I shall hopefully be bale to spot the group of chinese mums congregating in the corner

slng · 19/04/2008 08:04

Hello! How was the meet? Was it all quiet and placid?

wyls · 20/04/2008 17:20

hiya

just want to say that it was good to meet everyone on Fri. The kids were all so well good and my ds had a lovely time. He kept asking me "where are my friends" all the way home!!!

i cant wait for the next meet and speak on here soon.

wyls

snowmum · 20/04/2008 22:01

The meet up was fun. Kids played quite happily (more or less!), giving us mums time to chat. Only sticking point was the fact that Discovery Planet didn't open til 11am - not 10am!! Luckily its inside a shopping centre and most people didn't arrive til 10.30am so either shopped or chatted til it opened.

DD1 loved it, was completely exhausted and fell asleep on the tube home, as did DD2 in her sling. I just wished I could conked out too! Think I'll take the car next time.

We're thinking of having another get togehter in Sept - unless someone else wants to organise something in the meantime!??

wyls · 21/04/2008 12:31

btw thank you for organising the meet on Fri snowmum.

CeleryStick · 21/04/2008 13:57

Just want to say it was a pleasure to meet all the mums and their DC's on Friday. My DD had a fun time. Yes cheers for organising snowmun! Im back at work in May but have Wed's and Fri's off. Hope to catch up again soon.

champagne18 · 21/04/2008 15:23
