hi everyone sorry for intruding. just want to ask one question..my auntie is from Hk and shes visiting me now. shes feeling unwell and wants to see a doctor. i dont know where to take her? do i take her to my GP or Hosptial? or private hositpa;? anyone of you have same experience? pls advice. thanks

MomOnTheRun · 31/07/2007 06:45

Vio, whereabouta are you? Your auntie may be used to getting a quick fix in HK but you can't get that here. If you are near London, there's a private doctor in Shaftsbury Avenue. She will probably feel more at ease cos he's chinese.

Vio · 31/07/2007 13:08

i live in Glasgow..i know the medical system isnt the same here..its not like you go see any doctor you wish...do you know if i can take her to my GP or i have to take her to a private clinic or hospital?

Rojak · 31/07/2007 15:31

Check with your local GP, think some GPs will charge for non-UK residents receiving treatment.

Hello, I went to the Chinatown library when Xihaha exhibited and bought a Mandarin VCD, well 6 actually 'cos it was a bundle, of Chinese nursery rhymes.

It's quite tacky but dd loves it. And the important thing is she'll learn Chinese as it's done in the Karaoke style with subtitles.

wyls · 15/08/2007 10:27

Hi Everyone, havent been on here for so long i hope everyone is well.

Mellow2, thanks for that website, it's very useful. How's your DD chinese coming along? Are you speaking to her in chinese all the time?

I am also in the process of teaching my DS chinese. I should have spoken to him more in chinese when he's younger but hopefully he can catch up now.

Snowmum, how are you? When are u due?

Take care everyone and speak soon.

mellow2 · 15/08/2007 12:16

Dd speaks more chinese than she does English which is not good when we go on playdates.

I'm encouraging dh to speak exclusively her in English. He doesn't actually speak Chinese but will repeat back what dd says in Chinese to her which is counter productive.

slng · 17/08/2007 11:00

New on mumsnet - posted on the bilingual thread: I'm Malaysian Chinese, have two boys (3.5 and 1.5) and very keen that they should like Mandarin. Live in Ealing and would love to meet other like-minded mums!

mellow2 · 17/08/2007 15:13

Hi sing,

I'm Malaysian Chinese and I have a 16 month dd that's Eurasian as dh is English.

I live in Brentford which is not far from Ealing. We should arrange to meet up.

There's also the West London thread that's quite active. They arrange meet-ups all the time if you're interested.

mellow2 · 17/08/2007 15:14

I'm from KL. Where are you from sing?

slng · 17/08/2007 18:10

I'm from Kuching. I have a part-time job, but free most afternoons about 3 onwards. How about you mellow?

mellow2 · 18/08/2007 08:15

Sing,

Occassionally I do some contract work but otherwise I run an online organic store. I'm free all next week except Thu.

slng · 20/08/2007 11:01

Am going to be in Ealing Broadway Wednesday (22nd) afternoon - going to Natural Cafe to feed children dinner and will be there 4.30 to 6. Can you make it mellow? Anyone else?
My email: [email protected].

mellow2 · 20/08/2007 11:55

Hi sing,
I've emailed you.

snowmum · 10/09/2007 21:09

Hi everyone, not been on MN for ages. Hope everyone and their LO's are well. Summer was a bit of a wash out wasn't it? I was just about to pack away all of DD's shorts/summer clothes (luckily I brought a bigger size so hopefully she'll be able to wear them next year) and the weather turns nice again!

Wyls and I have been emailing and we have decided to get together for a meet up on Saturday 13th October. It was too difficult to try and find a weekday date so we have plumped for a weekend instead. No fixed plan, thinking perhaps of going to London Zoo or Aquarium, then lunch and wander around. Does anyone else fancy coming along? It would be nice to see everyone, newbies welcome. Hope some of you can make it!

Tea71 · 11/09/2007 16:42

Hello
Thought I'd introduce myself as a newbie Chinese Mum on Mumsnet. My dd is only 3 and a half months old, I'm a bbc - born and brought up in London, speak cantonese, but can't read or write it. Though my cantonese isn't great, am speaking to dd in cantonese. At some point it would be nice to meet up with some cantonese speaking mum's and kids ... probably not the saturday 13 October, but hope to join you mums some time. (I live in Norh London: Holloway/Tufnell Park area).

slng · 11/09/2007 20:34

Snowmum - Would like to meet everyone. 13 Oct should be OK. Other possible places to meet: Hyde Park if weather is good (lunch in Queensway always incentive). Or science museum basement (free!) Not been to aquarium. Would a 3-yr-old like it?

snowmum · 12/09/2007 18:53

Hiya Tea71 and welcome Like you I am also a bbc but can barely read or write chinese. I have a 2 yr old DD and another DD on the way (due end Nov). Shame you can't make 13th Oct, hope to meet you soon. I live in Richmond.

Slng, both Wyls and my LO's are nearly 2.5 yrs old and I think the Aquarium should be ok for them so your 3 yr old should be fine as well. I like your optimistic view on the weather, if its a gorgeous sunny day then I agree, we could meet in Hyde Park or even the Diana memorial playground in Kensington Gardens which is just opposite Royal China for yummy dim sum! Glad you can make it, look forward to meeting you.

slng · 13/09/2007 19:59

Snowmum - now I'm not sure if I can make 13/10. My parents are coming to visit! Hurrah!! If I can't make it let's arrange another thing. We live near Ealing, so Richmond's not too far away.

When I say Hyde Park I mean the Diana memorial playground. Watch out though - last time they were shut after lunch because the toilets were blocked!

Royal China is very nice, but they have the scariest high chair ever ... Have you tried Kiasu further up the road? Very nice South-east Asian food.

Mellow - do you read this thread? Will post on the west london thread later. Mad work stuff before parents arrive!

LinaJones · 16/09/2007 21:21

Sing and Mellow...

Glad to know that there are 2 other malaysians here So difficult to find Malaysians in London. Any of your children attending any baby classes ?? Looking for good baby classes at the mo.

slng · 17/09/2007 08:43

Lina - Hello! I live in West London, near Ealing. I speak VERY BAD Hokkien. Mostly I speak Mandarin. How old are your kids? What languages do you speak? Where are you from?

We never attended any baby classes.... What classes are you looking for? We generally just spend our time playing free-form, in Mandarin! I work part-time, so play-time is quite precious.

LinaJones · 17/09/2007 10:53

Hi Sing,

We are from Central London, near Tower Bridge. Used to live in Penang, but moved here after we got married

Baby is now 14 months and he is a bundle of energy. My Hokkien isn't good either....But I can understand the language and speak a little.

Do you get to meet up with other Malaysians ?? We are currently attending Gymboree, but looking for other music classes as baby enjoys being with other kids.

slng · 17/09/2007 19:41

Hi Lina, my midwife told me there's a Malaysian Chinese association, but so far haven't managed to make contact yet! I meet up with other Chinese (not necessarily malaysian!) friends now and then. It's nice to talk about food and food and food now and then!

DS1 never did enjoy group music activities - too loud for him, I think. So I never got into the habit of going to baby classes. We play chinese songs at home and everyone likes that!
Do you speak chinese to your baby?

LinaJones · 18/09/2007 07:41

I can understand that Chinese love talking about food But unfortunately, I cannot speak mandarin. Hehehehe ! So I guess baby won't get the chance to speak the language, coz he won't get the exposure. Oh well.....

satc · 26/09/2007 08:20
