satc - I speak mandarin exclusively to the kids. In the beginning it felt a bit strange, especially when there are other people around, but now it feels completely natural. I translate into English if there are other people around, like "I'm just going to tell him to do this or that" etc. I also had to find out the chinese for a lot of things I only know in English, so my chinese has also improved a lot! Ds1 speaks both mandarin and English now and ds2 understands both.

I don't know about chinese playgroups. I found some info about schools. Maybe there are some near you and you can ask them. Have you found these websites:

www.ukfcs.info/ukfcs%20sc%20website/sc_member%20schools.html
www.chinese -channel.co.uk/en/comm_3.php

slng - thanks for the links.

well i started talking away to ds today in mandarin and i just keep slipping back to english after just a few sentences or when i am not thinking... i must try harder, it's so difficult to just switch.

slng · 28/09/2007 14:27

satc - I know it's difficult in the beginning. Now I find it impossible to speak English to the kids! Though I've started to correct ds1's experiments in English recently...

MomOnTheRun · 16/10/2007 00:43

Well girls, did you get a chance to meetup on Saturday then? I only saw this now, so I'm a bit late.

For all the ppl who don't know me, I'm a bbc that speaks Cantonese and can read and write it. Have dd1 who will be 14 on New Year's eve, ds2 who is 4.5 and sadly my dd3 who became an angel in January. Haven't been on mn much for the last 10 months.

Welcome to all the new girls. Everybody is so nice here.

wyls · 18/10/2007 21:27

Hi monontherun, we didnt meet in the end cos I had to cancel but we are thinking of meeting again in Jan when snowmum had her no 2 baby.

What do you think? How are you?

I havent been on here for a while either. We have been away a lot and I am still working.

Hope you are all well and will let you know when we are meeting next.

Wyls

MomOnTheRun · 18/10/2007 22:20

Hi, I'm coping. I've asked for VR and waiting to see if I get it. Currently still working full time. Dh is going into partnership with a friend opening a take away. So I am shifting the burden over to him.

Wow, it seems like everybody's having babies. I lurk around in bounty alot now in the buy and sell forum and this week there must have been about 10 pg announcements. Makes me feel broody but ds has said no to making babies. He don't want another sibling.

snowmum · 23/10/2007 17:19

Hi Momontherun, its good to see you back on MN (not that I'm on MN very often nowadays!) Unfortunately Wyls and I didn't meet up in the end which is probably just as well as I'm finding it hard going now, being 34 wks pg. Get tired very easily.

Wyls, I thought we agreed to try and meet in Feb/March??? Jan will be too soon for me (and too cold!!)

lovecamping · 17/12/2007 23:10

Hello everyone

has it really been 2 months since snowmum posted. Snowmum - can i assume baby number 2 has arrived. Many congratulations and hope all is going well.

how is everyone doing??

myself and the 3 kids are doing well. ds is moving around in a bum shuffal/bouncing/crawling/dragging sort of way ... dh is certain he'll be cruising by boxing day. dd1 is doing well at school and has now decided she's an artist!!! her drawing was the cover picture at the school show - very proud, gushing mother moment for me!! going to frame it for grandparents . dd2 is calming down a little but still as active as a hurricane.

for xmas - i'm off to my mum's for a seafood fest and feeling alittle smug that i've brought all the presents!!

although we are in a horrible saga of buying a house that has been going on since september and we're still no nearer to exchange. so thats the cloud over the silver lining.

Roll on 2008 and especially chinese new year.
xxx

lovecamping · 17/12/2007 23:11

Merry Christmas to everyone also

snowmum · 21/01/2008 22:10

A (rather belated) Happy New Year everyone. Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas.

DD2 arrived 25th Nov, kicking and screaming her way into the big bad world. I am rediscovering the joy of sleepless nights and sore boobs! Things are beginning to settle down but I have yet to learn how to juggle a toddler and a baby. Any tips people?

Lovecamping - is that you Autumn?

slng · 22/01/2008 13:51

Congrats snowmum! ds1 and ds2 are 2 years apart. Things are much easier from about when
ds2 is 6 months, so hang in there!

Anyone doing anything special for chinese new year?

snowmoon · 25/01/2008 22:00

Hi all. A belated Happy New Year.

I posted a separate thread asking if there are Chinese mums near me, but I guess there aren't and most of you are in London?

So envious of those of you who can meet up with other Chinese mums. That said, I can always travel to London with DS, who's 3 1/2.

MomOnTheRun · 28/01/2008 02:37

Hi girls. With chinese new year round the corner just wondering if any of you would be interested in a few traditional outfits? I have 2 dresses in 3-4 and a boy's 3 yr old chinese suit. Contact me on [email protected] if you want pictures.

minibo · 05/02/2008 12:48

Hi all, just found this excellent thread. I'm a stay at home mum with a 6 year old daughter in Dorset. Just wondering if anyone here have a dd around my dd's age that plays the piano or have done any abrsm exams?

Snowmoon,
there is a really good forum for British born Chinese.
here is the link; 66.111.36.90/index.html
do check it out because I know some of the mums there do meet up someitmes

slng · 06/02/2008 19:42

Happy Chinese New Year everyone!

snowmoon · 06/02/2008 21:55

Thanks for the link minibo. Will check it out.

Happy Chinese New Year!!

MomOnTheRun · 07/02/2008 03:46

Happy Chinese New Year everyone! I've just come home having been to a buddhist temple to offer me first stick of incense for the year. "Gung Hei Fat Choy"!

snowmum · 15/03/2008 20:44

Hi everyone. Gosh this thread has been very quiet! Where is everyone? Hope everyone and their little ones are well.

Just to let everyone know, Wyls, Champagne and I are planning to meet on Friday 19th April at Discovery Planet, Surrey Quays, London. If anyone else fancies coming along and joining in the mayhem, please do so. You can CAT me for further details or info.

momontherun · 16/03/2008 07:00

I'd love to meeet you all. If it's lunchtime, I can probably pop round for an hour or 2 just to show my face.

slng · 17/03/2008 19:30

What time snowmum? I don't think I can make it though. Very envious.

snowmum · 18/03/2008 17:52

We are planning to meet around 11am. Wyls tells me there's a chinese restaurant nearby in Albert Docks which is a possible lunch venue afterwards.

Momontherun - it would be great to see you.

Slng - that time any good for you?

Any others fancy it?

slng · 18/03/2008 20:08

I'm at work till 1 and then it would be a long trek ... I think I might just have to miss this one
