Hi There,

I hope you all have good chinese new year celebration. Chinatown was absolutley packed out. We saw a bit of the dragon and lion dance, and then went to Imperial china for dim sum.

mellow2 · 01/03/2007 15:21

Welcome minnie,

It's been a bit quiet recently as a couple of the mums are off to HK for CNY.

Where are you located? I'm in West London Brentford and my dd is 10 months old.

snowmum · 02/03/2007 08:05

Welcome Minnie and hello everyone. Back from hols yesterday and brrr! its cold! Had a fab though tiring time in HK and then some R&R in Thailand. Good to see family and friends again. Forgotten how packed HK can be especially around CNY. Went to the flower market in Victoria Park - absolutely heaving with people, ate loads of yummy food and shopped til we dropped!

Flying long haul with DD wasn't too bad, as she slept most of the way. We did take some toys and books to keep her amused altho the airline provides a kiddy fun pack which she liked more. Jet lag was a killer though, we had several very early starts or very late nights altho she got adjusted to the time difference in the end (took about a week). Now got to do the same at this end! DD up at 4:30am this morning, looks like I'm in for a hard slog back to GMT!

Autumn, Wyls and Mellow - had you received your packages yet? I sent stuff last Weds (21st) but my own parcel hasn't arrived yet. Guess there was more stuff being sent around CNY time.

Bit knackered so will post more another time. And yes things much cheaper in HK - even nappies!

mellow2 · 02/03/2007 21:22

Welcome back snowmum. I haven't received your package yet but I really appreciate you helping me buy dd her books t and do let me know how much it costs.

autumnlover · 02/03/2007 21:55

Welcome back Snow. glad you had a nice time and the journey wasnt too bad.

your parcel arrived on tuesday and it was great. DD1 loves them. we did unlock our DVD player in order to play region 3 but it was quick and easy. hearing Mulan speak cantonese was great. let me know how much it all cost you.

I also have some news guys - I've had my little boy on wednesday at 12.00am!! his name is Patrick.

however he is early at only 34wks + 5 days and needed help to breath. he's in the special care unit but is doing okay. its a long story. will let you gusy know when he comes out. speak soon

wyls · 03/03/2007 09:45

Welcome Minnie and welcome back snowmum.

Congratulations, autumn, hope you and baby are both well and cant wait to hear more from you.

Snowmum, i also got my package the other day and it's great. I like the ding dong film a lot. He he. Thanks again.

Minnie, where are you from? do you speak cantonese? how old is your lo?

Hope you all have a good weekend and speak soon.

mellow2 · 03/03/2007 14:26

Congratulations autumn on the arrival of your ds.

Don't worry too much, I'm sure he'll be fine.

mellow2 · 05/03/2007 22:29

Snowmum,

We finally got the parcel. It was sitting in the porter's office. I really love the books you picked out. They are perfect!

We must meet up soon so I can pay you for the books and delivery.

champagne18 · 06/03/2007 10:11

Welcome back snowmum, hope you had a good time in HK. my sister is going back in March, could you please let me know what shop you got the chinese DVD's from. I can only think of HMV in HK.

Congratulations Autumn!and welcome minnie to mumsnet. We are a very friendly bunch of chinese mums!

snowmum · 06/03/2007 13:59

Autumn, congrats on the arrival of Patrick! How's life with 3 kids?? Hope Patrick will be home soon. Don't worry about paying me back for the dvds yet, wait til things settle down a bit.

Mellow, glad your parcel finally turned up! I did try to get the other books but the shop was closed for the CNY period. Another friend recommended the Popular bookshop in Singapore/Malaysia for childrens' books as well. I'm planning to order some online, will let you know what I get.

Re costing the parcels, I left price stickers on the dvds and books. The postage as per the stamps and the padded envelope was $7. I'm happy to take $15 = £1. Hope that helps people work out their various costs. Thought this would be the most transparent way of doing things. I have made a note of costs somewhere if people need it.

Champage, have to admit I cheated and just went to HMV for the dvds. Did mean to look at other shops but no time. Plus it worked out so cheap anyway with the strong £.

champagne18 · 07/03/2007 16:07

Thanks snowmum, i thought you might have got them from HMV. I completely forgot to go in there when i went back to HK last year. So, i will be instructing my sister this time.
Wyls said they were really good!
Anyone going to the babyshow this year at the excel centre?

breadgirl · 08/03/2007 21:01

autumnlover, congratualtions on your little baby boy
snowmum, sounds like you had a great time .. i'm envious!

minniethemouse · 09/03/2007 19:04

sorry girls i did not reply immediately. Just getting busy with my first scan/ appointment and new job, juggle a lot on my schedule.

Mellow2..I live at West London, near Greenford.

autumnlover · 09/03/2007 19:58

Congratulations minnie!! and welcome . we're not the fastest growing thread either. hope yr scan went well. first baby??

Just an update ladies - ds is doing well although his jaundice levels are up and down alot. but he's feeding well and sleeping loads. hopefully tomorrow he'll be home. just in time for his big big sister's 5th birthday party - where did the time go?!?!?! i can still remember when i didnt have any kids and now I have 3, on of which is in school.

hope you're all well. what is happening with everyone??

MomOnTheRun · 11/03/2007 02:53

Congratulations to Autumn and Minnie. Haven't been on here a while but have been reading the thread.

Welcome Minnie. I used to live in Greenford, some 15 years ago. DD1 was born in Ealing Hospital 13 yrs ago which I found was much better than the one in Stevenage. But things may have changed now. I sound so old to have a teenager while everybody else are talking about their babies. She's almost as tall as me and I'm thinking where has the time gone?

mellow2 · 11/03/2007 14:57

Congrats minnie. Hope your scan went well.

wyls · 11/03/2007 22:15

Minni, congratulations!!!

Momontherun, welcome back!!!

Autumn, good to hear that ds is doing well.

We are off to Canada on Wed for 10 days. I cant wait!!!

Champagne, did you go to the baby show? Did you buy anything?

Snowmum, those dvds are so good, I am sure my DS will enjoy them when he is a bit older, he he.

Ok just a short note to say hi to everyone and hope everyone is ok. Speak soon.

snowmum · 12/03/2007 14:49

Minnie, congratulations! How did the scan go? There's a few of us chinese mums in the West London area - perhaps we should try and meet up one day?

Autumn, poor DS. Hope the jaundice levels have gone down and you have him home now. We went thru a similar thing with DD. She had jaundice and needed phototherapy for 3 days which she hated.

Momontherun, great to have you back!

Wyls, very envious of your holiday. Wish I was going away (again!)

autumnlover · 12/03/2007 22:10

Hello ladies, thank you for your wishes & concern.

Ds is home! came home on saturday at 4pm and it ended up being a real struggle to get him home. but he's here now and his sisters are very excited to see him. particularly dd2 who thinks his name is 'hug'. she only uses the word when pointing to him and then hurling herself at him.

all i've done today is spent ages holding him and watching tv. its been great.

gotta go and look at double buggies tomorrow - wish us luck.
