Someone at work told me about this. Couldn't believe it at first, but she has called the HMRC & apparently it's right.

Before Child Tax Credits & Working Tax Credit, there was something called Children's tax credit. The Inland Revenue didn't publicise this, so very few people claimed it. Looks like if you were working, and your child was a baby during 2001 - April 2003 you can claim £1049, or £500 or so if you had an older child.

There isn't an awful lot of info on the HMRC site about this (understandably I guess), but you need to go there to downlaod the application form 11CTC
Apparently you can make claims until the end of Jan 2009 and then no more.

The site taxcredits.org seems to explain it all quite well, but beware they are sharks who want to charge you for making the claim on your behalf, when on the face of it, it seems quite simple to complete the HMRC form.

You need your p60 / tax code for the year in question.

As I say, I don't know much about this, and it does almost seem too good to be true, so if anyone else has any info please let us know.

Potentially exciting though, no?

Has any one got a phone number I could ring, or should I just ring my local tax office. And can I ask if dp and I aren't married (been together 20yrs though) because it would of been through him if we had? Thanks

popsycal · 05/01/2009 20:48

ring your local tax office
say you have been ttld you may be eligible foor a child tax allowance rebate for the finanacial year 2002-2003. They will ask for your NI number and tell you immediately if you receievd it then. your dp will have too ring himself and do the same (or speak to the persn on the phne after you) - dh and i are married and they would not tell me if he was eligible even though i had his ni number etc

If you both did not receive it, you are eligible to claim - print out the 11ctc forn
11ctc form here and cmplete it and send it to:

HMRC
Castle House
31 Lisbon Street
LEEDS LS1 4SA

That is the special address I was given - it is a dedictaed office dealing with these rebates.

You only have til the end of the month so do it quick and send it recorded delivery.

I remember getting around £500 when DS2 (age 4) was born to invest (not cash though) - was that what this relates to?

Helennn · 06/01/2009 21:55

No diet, that was the Child Trust Fund, altogether different.

mumoverseas · 08/01/2009 07:48

thanks for providing that address popsycal, really helpful. I've just discovered this thread and am abroad til June so was panicing about not having all my tax codes etc but it seems from that form 11ctc I don't need it. Just sent DH into work to print it off and will try to get it posted back to the UK in the next few days. Presume that even though the have a backlog as long as it is received before end of January it will be dealt with?

I sent mine to the address that popsycal posted, I sent it recorded and have checked on the royal mail website that it has been received.

Should I of sent it to my local tax office instead?

The address I sent it to does appear on the HMRC website so hopefully they will still process it.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 10/01/2009 11:52

Is there a form for this on the internet anywhere which isn't linked to an external agency? That first one is linked to The Entitlement Agency or something and they skim of £94.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 10/01/2009 11:55

Its ok, I found it but am too late as DD was born in 2001.

mummyhill · 10/01/2009 12:17

We got this automatically through DH's wages after his paternity leave his employers notified HMRC nd his tax code was adjusted. I thought it was the same for everyone!

UnquietDad · 10/01/2009 15:53

Any more got theirs recently? We're still waiting...

popsycal · 10/01/2009 19:43

Lmccrean · 12/01/2009 10:16

Called my local tax office this morning and he said that Leeds office would be processing it and then forwarding it to them for the refund...bit worried now!

JJ45 · 15/01/2009 17:54

does anybody know if you can claim this child tax credit if you was on income support at that time ?

popsycal · 15/01/2009 17:56

if you paid tax for all or part of the year, you can claim

spoke to my tax office today

said any new forms that need to be sent off now need to go to your local tax office as the leeds address i gave further down the thread are inundated

dont qorry if you sent it to leeds - it will be processed but they dont want anymore sent there

Linnet · 16/01/2009 10:48

does anyone know if you are eligible do you receive the money as a cheque/paid into bank account, or does it go through your wages now? Only dh back then was the higher earner and now he earns practically nothing, so not sure how it would work going through wages.

popsycal · 16/01/2009 11:30

chequ8ue

Linnet · 16/01/2009 15:35
