PREMIUM BONDS AUGUST 2024

1000 replies

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/07/2024 19:12

New thread and I've been asked to give some basic info. Feel free to add stuff

PB have been about since 1957

Been 30yrs (April 2024) since a million was then the highest prize

nsandi-corporate.com/news-research/news/30-years-premium-bonds-ps1-million-jackpots#

Each bond is £1. You have to buy in minimum of £25 so means 25 chances to win.

Bonds have to be in for a clear month before going into the draw

If you want to cash bonds in then usually takes 3 days to go into your account

Winnings can be reinvested if holdings are under £50k

This means they will go into the next months draw without losing a month

Or sent to named bank account if over /want winnings in bank account

More info here

www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/savings/types-of-savings/premium-bonds

The best time to buy premium bonds is on the last day of the month, as this means they are only held by NSI for one month and one day, without being entered into the prize draw.

PB to me is the fun and thrill each month of what if I win big and a millionaire - to them hoping win thousands to a day or two later being grateful if win £25😂

I have nowhere near the maximum and probably never will unless I win £50k + on pb

But only takes one £1 to win that million !!!

I love seeing the low holdings win high amounts

We've seen over the years £100 win £100k and £50 win £25k

Maximum is £50k per person so some do have all for family- mum dad and 2 kids so £200k etx

Those on the thread are varying from few hundred /thousand - to 20/30k to full holdings of £50k

Everyone is welcome to join in whether small or full holdings

One would expect if had full holdings of £50k to win something every month and think over the year to earn the same as if in a high interest account to win around £1925 in prizes

If have £5k average luck is £175 winnings a year

Obviously some people have better 'luck' than others and some worse - Ie full holdings and not winning anything a month or two

PB odds calculator below

moneymarvel.co.uk/calculators/premium-bonds/

From google (august 2023) - The consistent winners are the 1.16 million people who have the maximum £50,000.

They hold almost half of all premium bonds and, at current odds of 21,000:1, can expect a monthly stream of tax-free prizes: two a month and three almost every other month, 28 or 29 a year totaling £1,925

From google (Jan 2024) Tho equally With Premium Bonds, for every person who wins £1 million, a lot of people have to win nothing. So the median average will always be lower than the mean average.

This means that, with average luck, most people will win less than the prize rate each year, regardless of how many bonds they hold

But many on here do have £50k and then consider moving it to an account that pays 5/6% if their bonds aren't doing very well as would then def get extra money

But remember savings /interest get taxed

PB and their winnings don't

So they do dither whether to pull out from pb and put in high interest account if not winning anything

If you have PB but not sure if you have ever won esp if moved about a lot

you can write to NS&I. Include these details in the letter:

	Current name

	Current address

	Premium Bond holder number

All previous addresses where you might have registered bonds

	Your signature

You can send your letter to:

NS&I,
Sunderland
SR43 2SB.

There are 2 apps afaik

Cream - prize checker and if won previous month will show a pic - which we all get excited over 😂😂😂

Blue - often doesn't work for me but those who reinvest their winnings say it shows if won the day before app shows 🙀🙀🙀

And to confuse things I have a White app that is a bookmark - which shows info/list 😄😄😄

Now this has been debated on MANY times but seems to be correct

When do we find out if going to get a visit from AM 😂

The two winners of
the £1million prizes will be contacted by Agent Million (AM) 😂😂 the day before the first working day of the corresponding month.

There may however be
exceptions to this, such as when the first working day of the month is a
bank holiday, for example.

So

Day before first working day - Millionaire knock /call

First day of working month - list showing all winners million to £1k winners - which I always put up for those who can't find it

Day after first working day , including weekends - cream app showing all winnings

You can also check to see if have won via this link with your holders number

www.nsandi.com/prize-checker

Hopefully I've covered everything

Good luck one and all 😄

Remember I won £50k one month and then none of us won anything the next month (first time ever).

I must say winning has meant I’ve lost my interest as I doubt it will ever happen again, it was my one time I’m sure.

Have you won anything again? I get the sense of 'that's done then' 😂

Phase2 · 25/07/2024 16:22

Well I need to take some of mine out after August, I have a minor cosmetic procedure to pay for 😂

AndAnotherThingToo · 25/07/2024 16:33

Oooh -interesting thread can I join in?
Originally bought PB for myself and kids in the days before Gordon Brown adjusted the odds downwards. Cashed theirs in when they were old enough to hold in their own right, as I didn’t want one to win and not the other…
Have the max holding so get wind nearly every month -usually 50, but this month was 350 - max I have ever had.
Fascinating facts in the OP -never heard of the AM -will make sure I am in on Weds in case s/he calls 😁😁😁

Bimblesalong · 25/07/2024 17:19

Well I am due a big win as in the last 3 weeks we have ticked off the top three in the most stressful things in life list (not divorce!). I would really like some good news - and also to buy DS a kitchen for his new house, once the vendors get their act together on a move date...

Happiestathome · 25/07/2024 18:52

@GOTBrienne my husband and I have discussed, at length 😂, getting on the big winners list. I do feel it would potentially ruin the bonds fun for us, as it would feel even more unlikely that we would get the dream win of the million. I’d still be incredibly grateful though. Max win ever so far is £500.

GOTBrienne · 25/07/2024 22:32

@Happiestathome this! I feel I’ve used upall my luck now. I’m grateful to have won, just sad the game has ended.

If I won a large amount I would be thinking I was on a roll and even bigger things were coming.

Ever the optimist.

Eaumyword · 26/07/2024 08:48

Me too! There's just as much chance to win again!
We've never won more than a £500 prize amount, but I remain convinced that a biggie lies in wait for us - if that ever happened, it would just spur me on for more good luck 😂

Sallyingon · 26/07/2024 10:56

I won 1k on a small holding and I do have a sense that I couldn't be that lucky again. But I'm still excited to push the reveal button every month. I'd really like a new house with a separate bathroom for the teenagers, 500k would do!

Readingallthetime · 26/07/2024 11:01

I once got five numbers on the lottery when it was still really popular, I think people in those days won about 5 to 10k with five numbers. I was a student at the time, and rang up the telephone number all excited, I won £501 because apparently there were lots of winners and it went straight towards my big student overdraft 🤣

Countrylife2002 · 26/07/2024 14:29

My 16 year old thinks I’m batshit for getting excited each month! So young, so cynical 😂

Florabella · 27/07/2024 08:13

If I bought some more bonds today would they be eligible for next month's draw?

westisbest1982 · 27/07/2024 08:16

Florabella · 27/07/2024 08:13

If I bought some more bonds today would they be eligible for next month's draw?

No, they’d be eligible for the September draw.

Florabella · 27/07/2024 08:19

So the one that is drawn at the end of Sept, beginning of October?

WhyDoesItAlways · 27/07/2024 08:59

Florabella · 27/07/2024 08:19

So the one that is drawn at the end of Sept, beginning of October?

The draw end of August/beginning of September if you get your deposit on before the end of July.

RubbishDay · 27/07/2024 09:00

Florabella · 27/07/2024 08:19

So the one that is drawn at the end of Sept, beginning of October?

My understanding and I am sure others will chip in if I am wrong is that they need to be in for the whole month before they become eligible.

The next draw is August. AM comes round day before the first working day so will be 31st July which is why it can be confusing but it is still the August draw.

If you purchase now then you won't be in that draw but should be in the September draw. This is why people recommend buying at the end of the month to minimise eligibility time.

SuzyQ12 · 28/07/2024 14:16

Placeholding for this months drawer, good luck everyonr 😊

FiveShelties · 28/07/2024 23:21

These months seem to be rolling around very quickly. Good Luck everyone😁

25 years or so ago I got 4 numbers and was also very excited… I won £6 /something! If I’d only got 3 numbers I’d have won £10!

HollywoodTease · 29/07/2024 00:21

Being a sad sort of person I just worked out that this year, despite 2 months with no wins, I have made what would be an annual interest rate of 5.26% on my holding of just over £30k. I'm happy enough with that, but also keeping everything crossed for a substantial win too!

Good luck everyone!

leafybrew · 29/07/2024 07:50

Am I right in thinking - millionaires on 31st; big list winners on 1st Aug; and everyone else's prizes on 2nd Aug?

Yup.

westisbest1982 · 29/07/2024 07:54

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 29/07/2024 07:53

Yup.

Also, pending prizes will show in the blue app on Thursday evening.

Lilly11a · 29/07/2024 07:57

Just place marking so I can be disappointed with no prizes again on my 3.8k and moan about it on here on Thursday 😁

leafybrew · 29/07/2024 08:05

Thanks peeps - I can get v excited to win £25 to £50 ...again. and remain cheerful and positive.

T'would be super to be on the big prize winners list - any amount would do - not too fussy
