PREMIUM BONDS AUGUST 2024

1000 replies

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/07/2024 19:12

New thread and I've been asked to give some basic info. Feel free to add stuff

PB have been about since 1957

Been 30yrs (April 2024) since a million was then the highest prize

nsandi-corporate.com/news-research/news/30-years-premium-bonds-ps1-million-jackpots#

Each bond is £1. You have to buy in minimum of £25 so means 25 chances to win.

Bonds have to be in for a clear month before going into the draw

If you want to cash bonds in then usually takes 3 days to go into your account

Winnings can be reinvested if holdings are under £50k

This means they will go into the next months draw without losing a month

Or sent to named bank account if over /want winnings in bank account

More info here

www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/savings/types-of-savings/premium-bonds

The best time to buy premium bonds is on the last day of the month, as this means they are only held by NSI for one month and one day, without being entered into the prize draw.

PB to me is the fun and thrill each month of what if I win big and a millionaire - to them hoping win thousands to a day or two later being grateful if win £25😂

I have nowhere near the maximum and probably never will unless I win £50k + on pb

But only takes one £1 to win that million !!!

I love seeing the low holdings win high amounts

We've seen over the years £100 win £100k and £50 win £25k

Maximum is £50k per person so some do have all for family- mum dad and 2 kids so £200k etx

Those on the thread are varying from few hundred /thousand - to 20/30k to full holdings of £50k

Everyone is welcome to join in whether small or full holdings

One would expect if had full holdings of £50k to win something every month and think over the year to earn the same as if in a high interest account to win around £1925 in prizes

If have £5k average luck is £175 winnings a year

Obviously some people have better 'luck' than others and some worse - Ie full holdings and not winning anything a month or two

PB odds calculator below

moneymarvel.co.uk/calculators/premium-bonds/

From google (august 2023) - The consistent winners are the 1.16 million people who have the maximum £50,000.

They hold almost half of all premium bonds and, at current odds of 21,000:1, can expect a monthly stream of tax-free prizes: two a month and three almost every other month, 28 or 29 a year totaling £1,925

From google (Jan 2024) Tho equally With Premium Bonds, for every person who wins £1 million, a lot of people have to win nothing. So the median average will always be lower than the mean average.

This means that, with average luck, most people will win less than the prize rate each year, regardless of how many bonds they hold

But many on here do have £50k and then consider moving it to an account that pays 5/6% if their bonds aren't doing very well as would then def get extra money

But remember savings /interest get taxed

PB and their winnings don't

So they do dither whether to pull out from pb and put in high interest account if not winning anything

If you have PB but not sure if you have ever won esp if moved about a lot

you can write to NS&I. Include these details in the letter:

	Current name

	Current address

	Premium Bond holder number

All previous addresses where you might have registered bonds

	Your signature

You can send your letter to:

NS&I,
Sunderland
SR43 2SB.

There are 2 apps afaik

Cream - prize checker and if won previous month will show a pic - which we all get excited over 😂😂😂

Blue - often doesn't work for me but those who reinvest their winnings say it shows if won the day before app shows 🙀🙀🙀

And to confuse things I have a White app that is a bookmark - which shows info/list 😄😄😄

Now this has been debated on MANY times but seems to be correct

When do we find out if going to get a visit from AM 😂

The two winners of
the £1million prizes will be contacted by Agent Million (AM) 😂😂 the day before the first working day of the corresponding month.

There may however be
exceptions to this, such as when the first working day of the month is a
bank holiday, for example.

So

Day before first working day - Millionaire knock /call

First day of working month - list showing all winners million to £1k winners - which I always put up for those who can't find it

Day after first working day , including weekends - cream app showing all winnings

You can also check to see if have won via this link with your holders number

www.nsandi.com/prize-checker

Hopefully I've covered everything

Good luck one and all 😄

Those winnings are incredible @Blondeshavemorefun

I’m still tapping my fingers for a decent win on FH. But ever hopeful

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/07/2024 23:36

I know. I've done so well this year and only half way through it

Would love to get to £5k in pb

Dream would be £50k 😂😂 but very unlikely

Plus my good luck may run out the. And could be like the few on here who have full and don't win

Yet the odds say they should win. Every month 2/3 Prizes

Fingers crossed for August now, otherwise may be tempted to put some into an ISA.

1975wasthebest · 05/07/2024 20:24

I’m going to try really hard to try and move from a £6K to £10K holding by the end of the year. Hard to predict (self-employed and variable income) but I’m going to try hard. Just posting to keep myself motivated.

I win nearly every month but have had years previously when I hardly won a thing. This month and last I won two lots of £100.

Jeannie88 · 05/07/2024 20:42

Igmum · 03/07/2024 20:10

Thank you @Blondeshavemorefun 👍 I won this month Grin - 2 x £50 (spotted the email while in a work meeting and sneakily checked the app thinking OMG how will I react if I win big in front of work colleagues!)

Do you mean you've won twice in a month?

Jeannie88 · 05/07/2024 20:48

I had a £1 premium bond given when I was born. Years later I finally got in touch with NSI and they were fantastic, the days before Internet, and showed me my ticket's performance, which was nil. I have invested in PB since and had quite a few wins, 25, 50 and once 100. My Dad had 30 000 and had regular small wins. It does work out better than savings if you win some regularly. X

How can you win 2 lots? 2 different accounts? Curious and thank you. Xx

This month I won two prices, £100 each and the same last month. In the past I have won three amounts. One account.

QuiltedHippo · 05/07/2024 21:02

£300 for me (3x £100) which I think is my best ever result. Hold about £15k

Loute02 · 05/07/2024 21:06

Thanks for the new thread! £150 on FH and £25 on £40k which is not great 😔 only 27 days until next results! 🤞

Edited

Really? I had no idea, thought it was just one draw. Thank you. Xx

InMySpareTime · 05/07/2024 21:26

@Jeannie88 you get one "ticket" in each draw for every £1 of bonds you hold.
Each £1 bond has an equal chance of winning a prize, and winning with one of your bonds has no effect on whether you'll win with another.

Igmum · 05/07/2024 21:51

@Jeannie88 yes I won two prizes this month - £50 each (I was convinced for some reason it was £100k and wasn't sure I could stop myself reacting in a work meeting - have got time now to work on my poker face before next month Grin)

Jazzybeat · 06/07/2024 08:15

Won £100 this month on 33k holdings. This year have won about £1300 but much of that was from a big win in Jan £750. Rest is dribs and drabs. I live in hope for the knock every month. Keep wondering if I should top up to full holding or keep in savings.

@Jeannie88 Think of each £1 you own in Premium Bonds as 1 raffle ticket

If you have £50 you have 50 tickets that could be drawn. If you have £10000 you have 10,000 tickets that could be drawn.

If more than one of your bond numbers (raffle tickets) get drawn you win more than one prize

VeganAvo · 06/07/2024 08:31

I have £500 in for years never won a single prize 😂

If I had £50k I would top up on first

Then do isa for tax reasons

But know many do other way around as obv guaranteed interest

Joining the new thread - thank you @Blondeshavemorefun and congratulations on yet another win!!

I have £35K now (keeping tax, house repair and holiday fund in there) and not winning any more than when I had £10K. Might just start gambling or fraud for a bigger thrill

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/07/2024 11:50

Mine will increase over the months as will add tax in there as se and pay in jan

But then go back down to a low figures

I’ve only won £100 this year but that’s not on a large amount at all so not bad. Just added a few hundred to one of my kids accounts, taking it out of a savings account so her money is all in one place. Not sure that’s the best thing but hopefully ok.

Currently wondering if I should switch my £50 a month in to PBs for a stocks and shares isa! Obviously not a large amount but that’s about all I can afford at present.

cupcakes12blossom · 07/07/2024 13:49

Place-marking for August..

Just under £11k held so don't expect to win every month. Good luck all

Jellybean85 · 08/07/2024 07:41

Checking in!! Just a few ££ over £20k in holdings. A real mixed bag so far this year, five months of nothing but once won £5k !!

Sallyingon · 08/07/2024 09:33

My holdings are up and down. I like the easy access. I've had between £4k and 8k this year and I'm doing very nicely so far. Have had three prizes of £100, £1000 and £50 so definitely winning even if I don't win again for the rest of the year. I love dreaming of the big one. Been flat shopping in London on Right Move this weekend. Going to need the mill 😁
