The dreaded bank text message

Just had the dreaded bank text message to tell me how much money I don’t have left!!!

I don’t get paid till 25th and I’ve got 350 left. Partner has about the same. Doesn’t feel like much of a life for two people both working hard in full time jobs. Everything is just so bloody expensive

just having a whinge

i think april was a long month

SmugglersHaunt · 08/05/2024 07:10

I feel your pain. I’m terrified of looking at my balance, so when I get a text message my heart sinks. For some reason, every year, April and May are really expensive - not helped by the £360 I had to pay a locksmith two weeks ago 🙄. Hope the end of the month comes quickly for you

Bjorkdidit · 08/05/2024 07:17

£700 for just over 2 weeks. What does it need to cover?

food fuel and maybe a bit of fun!

So unless you have a large family or epic commute, I don't see the issue.

That’s loads. We have 700 for a family of four to last until the 23rd. We’ve got to pay our 460 mortgage, a £100 bill and we will still be ok for food petrol. You’ve got loads of money

i think april was a long month

For me it’s a combination of no council tax in February and March, and Feb being a short month anyway.

April to May payday is a 5 weekend month for me (21st payday). Always a killer!

Motnight · 08/05/2024 07:31

£700 for 2 weeks is more than doable isn't it?

LeopardPrintIsNeutral · 08/05/2024 07:32

Unless there’s about to be a massive drip feed that you both do 150 mile round trip commutes and you’re allergic to absolutely everything and can only shop at special places, I really don’t see the issue.

Willmafrockfit · 08/05/2024 07:35

how much outgoings do you have?
how much spare?
otherwise it is simply showing off

Coconutter24 · 08/05/2024 07:40

Melonbraun · 08/05/2024 07:27

food fuel and maybe a bit of fun!

That’s plenty surely

JoJothegerbil · 08/05/2024 07:45

£700 is loads to last 16 days! Unless you have a tribe of children to feed and a huge commute that's eminently doable. I don't get paid until 31st and have similar left. All bills are paid but I still have to buy food and fuel. It would be lovely to have more, but I just have to cut my cloth.

Melonbraun · 08/05/2024 07:48

I’m not saying that we’re in any sort of financial trouble, it Judy doesn’t feel like much

OP posts:
Fanchester · 08/05/2024 07:50

Hmmm.

That will be tight though, surely?

PotatoPudding · 08/05/2024 07:53

Unless you’ve put nothing into a savings account, that’s loads. I have about £400 a month for food for 3 and a tank and half of fuel.

BarcardiWithGadaffia · 08/05/2024 07:54

Melonbraun · 08/05/2024 07:27

food fuel and maybe a bit of fun!

Can you break down how £700 isnt planty for that with some to spare

buffyslayer · 08/05/2024 07:54

£90 left for me to cover food until the 24th

FindingMeno · 08/05/2024 07:57

Oh behave op.
You know full well the actual financial crisis some people are in at the moment.
Don't rub it in.

BusterGonad · 08/05/2024 08:00

I wish we had £700 left... ☹️

WithACatLikeTread · 08/05/2024 08:14

About £200 a week? That is loads.

HauntedPencil · 08/05/2024 08:15

700 for 2 weeks surely leaves a lot for food and a bit of fun? I guess you might be used to more but everything has got more and more expensive I agree.

JaninaDuszejko · 08/05/2024 08:15

Do you have any savings in other accounts or is that literally it? You should be fine but I'd recommend building up some savings so you aren't constantly living hand to mouth.

WithACatLikeTread · 08/05/2024 08:15

Melonbraun · 08/05/2024 07:51

That will be tight though, surely?

They are probably aware of that.

LittleBearPad · 08/05/2024 08:16

£700 for two weeks is plenty when it’s just food, fuel and fun money. I’m not sure I see the problem.
