Thanks for all valuable contributions everyone.

It's probably fine, it will just be considered an overpayment of tax credits that you'll need to pay back.

Brinderss · 28/05/2024 14:56

Hi, I have received a migration notice for 2nd August and trying to work out when is best to apply. Single working mum on child tax and working tax.
My tax credits are paid weekly every Thursday and wages paid on the 1st of every month, if the 1st falls on a weekend then its paid on the Monday.
Many thanks

Thejackrussellsrule · 28/05/2024 19:13

@brinderss avoid making your claim the first few days of the month, if you get paid on a Thursday, make your claim on a Friday/Saturday to avoid the chance of a tax credit overpaying.

If you have rent, you might want to be paid a couple of days before your rent is due. So if your rent is due last day of the month, around the 21st would see you paid on the 28th of each month.

Brinderss · 28/05/2024 22:42

@Thejackrussellsrule thanks, My rent is added every Monday (social housing), I pay on the 1st but housing benefit goes to them 4 weeks in arrears always near the end of the month. I was thinking similar that would need to claim around a week before my wages as a week later would mean a longer wait between wages and universal credit? Plus my eldest has turned 18 and finishes college this academic year so not sure how that will pan out 😬

Thejackrussellsrule · 28/05/2024 22:56

Whilst you're in receipt of child benefit, until the end of August, he'll be classed as being in full time education. You'll be asked in August what he's doing next and if he's not in education, he'll come off your claim.
If you do claim around the 21st of the month, in August make sure you don't report he's left education until the end of your assessment period, that way you'll receive a payment at the end if August for him.

Brinderss · 28/05/2024 23:00

@Thejackrussellsrule Yes, I believe he's classed as in education until 31st August. My migration date is the 2nd August so will have to make claim in either June or July so will state he's in education.

Anyone who has been through the process able to confirm how long payment details and payment take if there was a delay with some of the info.
Statement was supposed to be up a few days ago and payment today but there was a delay with some info being confirmed, just had confirmation first thing this morning but wondering how long it will now take to find out what payment we will get.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 03/06/2024 18:12

Can anyone in the know about TP explain to me something?

Last months statement said we had TP, this months says we are no longer eligible for TP because our UC payments are higher than what we used to receive. However my DHs income is flexible as he’s self employed. So does that mean TP is done? should I be worried?

Wafflefudge · 03/06/2024 18:14

I think transitional protection stops if you don't need it and then it's gone.

On our first month we got payment within an hour of our statement, but it was May bank holiday weekend.

ChristmasCatBells · 03/06/2024 18:15

I know a few people were wondering about private pensions but I've just had it confirmed that they do treat private pension contributions as income. Only pretax through work pensions do not count unfortunately.

Wafflefudge · 03/06/2024 18:16

@JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam thanks. They have actually processed statement and payment today using faster payment. Was expecting there to be a delay.

The TP only means that your total entitlement before deductions won't be lower than your previous benefits. I'm guessing that message means that your total entitlement has risen due to the annual uprating of all elements, so TP doesn't apply anymore? It'll still go up and down depending what he earns, though if he is subject to the MIF it won't necessarily be reflective of his actual earnings 😣

Thank you, yes I suspect it’s due to the up-rating. Our TP last month was only £16 anyway.

He’s not subject to MIF as he’s the carer for our disabled son.

As long as somehow it’s not going to negatively affect it in the long run that’s okay.

So far I have to say the transition hasn’t been nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

Yeah if it was only £16 then it'll definitely be due to the uprating.

They've conveniently forgotten neglected to add my child's disability element and my carer element to my first statement despite seeing proof of his DLA, so are now chasing me over work requirements even though I don't have work requirements because I'm a carer 🙄

Symposium · 08/06/2024 11:04

Just thought I'd update as I've just received our first statement since migrating. It's all gone surprisingly smoothly so far. We are not getting as much on UC as tax credits, partly as my Dh wages have recently gone up due to overtime pay and partly the reduction of £174 for our savings. However, apart from having to go into the job centre at the start to verify ID we haven't so far been asked to provide anything else. I was expecting to have to show proof of our savings but they haven't yet anyway. We have a small tax credit overpayment still to sort out but I think they can take it off our UC.

OuchyCyst · 13/06/2024 23:22

Hello, any advice welcome. I’ve just had my first statement on UC and there is no mention of transitional protection (I did apply by the deadline) or a carer’s element, which I’m sure I applied for. Is it possible the TP is 0 so not shown?
At the bottom it says ‘if you think we’ve made a mistake then write to us at…. Or call us’. Could I also put a note in my journal to query this or is it best to call/write?
Also is there any way to check my original application to see if I forgot to tick the carer box?
I was hoping it would all go smoothly..

Symposium · 14/06/2024 08:26

We've just had our first statement and payment. I thought everything was fine, a bit less than tax credits but I was kind of expecting that as we have savings and our monthly income was a bit higher than normal due to overtime pay. Then just before our payment date we had a message in the journal. Turns out they hadn't added transitional protection yet so there was a further payment added. So we received the first amount on the original payment date and a further payment the following day. They also generated a revised statement showing the total new amount. I hadn't contacted them as I didn't know the first payment amount was wrong. The message about the extra payment did not come from our local job centre so perhaps they are dealing with that all separately? It might be worth leaving a message in your journal if you are worried though.

Wafflefudge · 14/06/2024 09:02

I also got the transitional protection a couple of days after. A revised statement and separate payment. I think TC work out what you would have got separately for them to be able to calculate the transitional payment.

Wafflefudge · 14/06/2024 09:13

Do you remember having to confirm which child you were caring for?

OuchyCyst · 14/06/2024 09:36

Ah thank you both. That makes sense if the TP is added later. Especially as I have not long completed the TC renewal process.
Re the carer element, I realised I can check my claim in the Journal and I definitely did say I was a carer for my daughter who received DLA MRC. I will put a note in the journal and hope it was just overlooked rather than I am not eligible etc.

thisfilmisboring123 · 14/06/2024 14:23

If you’re a carer for your child who gets middle rate DLA there’s no way you won’t be eligible. There’s been a few delays with verifying the carers element. (Not sure why, I think there’s been a back log verifying children)

Leave your journal message, leave journal message as ‘a payment’ don’t leave a message for your work coach as you won’t have one assigned to your claim.

OuchyCyst · 14/06/2024 22:45

@thisfilmisboring123 thank you, have done as you suggested. Reassuring you think I’ll be eligible, thanks

OuchyCyst · 19/06/2024 21:10

Haven’t had a reply to my journal message last Friday. How long does it normally take?

Really varies depending on your case manager.

As you’ve not had a response if you ring tmw, an agent should escalate it to your case manager. This usually gives them a bit of a nudge
