Not claiming any special knowledge myself (apart from am about to migrate in next couple of months!), but wanted to keep this going - will post link to the original thread next -) as it seemed to be helping and calming so many people.
Thanks for all valuable contributions everyone.

I've put a journal note about the appointment. Seems a shame they didn't even try and verify online. I imagine all their appointments will be during the working day.

Hi I'm sure both these questions have already been answered but can anyone let me know if and how you are supposed to report private pension contributions?
Just done my application but it wasn't mentioned anywhere that I could see.
Also been given an appointment for ID verification even though I pressed to do it online. We are both working on the date we've been given which is barely any notice - have people been able to reschedule these or do them online/ phone? They didn't even give me opportunity to submit my details for online checking for done reason.
Many thanks much appreciated.

You have to upload proof of pension payments to your journal monthly and it will hopefully get sent to a DM the first month. If they try to tell you that pension contributions not paid by your employer do not reduce income they are wrong and you can refer them to this legislation
https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2013/376/regulation/55/made?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR2zTshRLSn6YX5DmJodHWfpHhpuW5FUevxTeYbAv8OXhHX_-wzKLR9lVM_aem_Ae8odfpTzN7g6DVpHSIiwUur5dg6eoVyjBHYj4h_vF8ECW7Bb7-y8n7b1snsUuaDM9NoumKgDTxHsGQqZJ8Xs1RP
You may need to argue with them for a while before it's sorted but 100% of your contributions will be ignored as income.

The Universal Credit Regulations 2013

These Regulations contain provisions in relation to universal credit under Part 1 of the Welfare Reform Act 2012 (c.5) (“the Act”). They also include provision for a benefit cap under section 96 of the Act.

I migrated on the 14th January have been getting fit notes since the start filled in the UC50 form in February and sent it back had a phone assessment on 11th April and have received a decision today that I have LCWRA.
Can anyone explain what this actually means and what happens now ?

It means you’ll be placed in the ‘no work-related requirements’ so you won’t be expected to work or look for work for universal credit.

You’ll be awarded the lcwra element which is currently £390 going up to £410 I think.
From the dates you’ve given I don’t think you’ll be entitled to any back pay (there are some exceptions) but first lcwra payment should be in your June payment.

You also don’t need to put any more fit notes on your claim

Wafflefudge · 29/04/2024 16:38

@DragonFly98 thank you for the info.
So do I just take a screenshot from my pension account or something? And just upload it. And same for my husband.
Hope they process it correctly you'd think the staff would know what they should be doing.

Does it also mean I will no longer have to attend the job centre as a few hours after receiving the decision my appointment for the 7th of May was cancelled.

DyslexicPoster · 29/04/2024 18:57

I phoned the citizens advice helpline as I had inheritance from my mum. They said if I have any thing over 16k I will still get protection from the migration period but if my savings changes at all the protection will stop. Is this right?

I am not sure exactly what you need to upload sorry but that sounds like it would make sense. The work coaches are often only trained to handle very basic claims, anything even slightly unusual seems to seems to confuse them so much they just tell claimants they are wrong. Hopefully you will have a decent one.

Yes.

Was it a work-focused interview you had booked? The work coach will have cancelled it as you don’t need it anymore.

You shouldn’t have any further appointments now.

That doesn’t sound right, are you sure that’s what they said?

Usually, if you have savings over 16k you can’t claim UC, but as you’re migrating you’ll be protected and can still claim for 12 months.

No, but what they are saying should be that if you have savings of £16k+ you'll get transitional protection. You'll have £174 deducted from your UC due to the tariff income assumed from £16k of savings, but you'll still get UC.

However, if your savings dip below £16k, then the savings part of the transitional protection ends. That means that if you then add to your savings and it takes you above £16k again, your UC claim will end.

stellios · 29/04/2024 22:45

I also have had inheritance that is invested now quite a lot over 16k would I still get transitional protection? how does it work exactly?

Glpo · 30/04/2024 18:15

hi could anyone help me please?
I'm due to get my child tax credit tomorrow and was planning on submitting once that's been paid but i cannot find where i need to put the reference in for the guaranteed transitional protection from my migration letter.
thanks in advance

On the letter I got, they gave me the website address to use to migrate from tax credits to UC. It specifically says when you go to that website that it's only for those who have received a migration notice. I didn't need to put my reference number in at all.

Glpo · 30/04/2024 19:39

Swizzel did you input your unique transitional protection reference number?

Don't claim UC tomorrow or you will have to repay the tax credits as an overpayment. Also this time off the month is often not a good date to apply, do you or a partner work if so when do you get paid?

Glpo · 30/04/2024 19:56

Yes got paid today its last day of every month but need to migrate over by this Friday 3rd. To be honest I've been putting it off and off now got no choice.

No, I wasn't asked to give the reference number at all, although I was convinced it would be needed and paranoid about not being given transitional protection. I got my first UC payment earlier this month, and it very clearly states on there "Transitional protection," so no need to worry.

Glpo · 30/04/2024 21:09

Swizzel that brilliant news thank you it's put my mind to rest. Thank you.

Ok I would personally leave it till Friday then it at least gives you a few days gap to have less chance of being paid twice on an assessment period. You could also ring and ask for an extension if you feel you need one. If it's granted it would be four weeks.

Thejackrussellsrule · 30/04/2024 21:42

@glpo If you're always paid last day of the month and you've received Tax Credits, you'll be fine to claim UC now. I wouldn't leave it til the last day, that feels very much like tempting fate!

You do realise if something happened on Friday and the claim wasn't made until the Saturday or the Sunday for example all that would happen is you would loose 1 or

2 days entitlement to UC. It always advised to claim a week ( or as near to as possible) either side of pay day.

Symposium · 01/05/2024 09:06

I'm getting anxious now as my migration date is 9th May. Payday is always 28th of month and tax credits paid weekly on a Thursday. I was going to apply on 7th May but maybe I'm leaving it too close? Would I be better doing it now? Does the bank holiday weekend make any difference?

No need to worry, applying two days before your final date is absolutely fine. Just make sure that you have any documents that you will likely be asked for to hand (passport, drivers licence, payslip, bank account details, childcare costs if applicable, etc). As @DragonFly98 has said, applying a week either side of your usual pay day is advised: this is to reduce the chance of a bank holiday resulting in your being paid early, or your employer reporting your income late, either of which could result in two paydays being recorded within one assessment period. (That said, in instances where this occurs, UC are able to manually allocate the wages to the correct assessment period).

If you apply for UC on 7th May, your assessment period will be the 7th to the 6th, and your UC payment date will be the 13th of each month.

I found the application process much less daunting than I thought it was going to be - there's a fair amount of information that you need to give, but your application doesn't go live until you've filled everything in and hit the submit button.

Glpo · 01/05/2024 11:58

Swizzel if 2 payment of wages go in like you said on bank holidays because we always get paid early meaning both may/June and aug/sep wage will happen does that mean you get nothing if so how does the month after work when no wages are in that period do you know thanks
