Not claiming any special knowledge myself (apart from am about to migrate in next couple of months!), but wanted to keep this going - will post link to the original thread next -) as it seemed to be helping and calming so many people.
Thanks for all valuable contributions everyone.

@Babyroobs do you know what might be going on here? I applied for DLA for DD3 on 17th November 2023. On 20th March I was notified of her decision and informed UC. On 24th April I was told that they had considered my 'late reporting' and had decided it was reasonable, so therefore the disabled child element would be backdated to 17th November 2023.

I've got my May statement and no backdate has been applied. I've added a query on my journal but it's the weekend. Is it likely to be just an oversight?

thisfilmisboring123 · 11/05/2024 20:40

@Lougle
it won’t be added to your statement
when payment has been calculated/verified, you’ll get a letter in your journal.
it will be sent as a separate payment.

Thanks @thisfilmisboring123 . Any idea of the timeline? I reported the change on 20/03/24 so almost 2 months ago.

Fab.

Today I received my final statement for TCs, where they tell me I now owe them £337. See pic.

What does it all mean, I have no clue?!

And am not impressed, to say the least!

Same here. I thought TC were paid a week in arrears, so when I received my last payment, I then applied for UC the next day. I now owe the last TC payment back to them, which in effect means I've had no payment for 6 weeks (my first UC payment is due this Wednesday and I migrated on 8 April) but simce I now owe my last payment back, then my last actual TC payment was 1 April.

I can't really work it out in order to challenge them.

JanglyBeads · 13/05/2024 16:18

Does your final award notice have the same wording though @RainbowZebraWarrior ? The above lists a payment from "earlier years": I've no idea what they mean! Guess will have to ring and ask.

Wafflefudge · 13/05/2024 16:40

@JanglyBeads your overpayment were from previous years. I have heard of tax credits doing this years later I had assumed they'd at least inform you which years were relevant though. There's no info there for you to be able to check.

I have also had an overpayment apparently bit I think it's just because I need to let them know private pension payments and then they might possibly even owe me money then but probably not.

Wafflefudge · 13/05/2024 16:41

@RainbowZebraWarrior have you checked earnings match correctly. Possibly pay has gone up?

JanglyBeads · 13/05/2024 17:33

What do they can just seemingly arbitrarily decide you were overpaid e.g.

five years ago and they never mentioned it at the time but now hit you with it? Double fab.

Wafflefudge · 13/05/2024 17:51

Yes apparently do @JanglyBeads I've seem people post about it before done going back years. I think they should provide you with info if you ask.

JanglyBeads · 13/05/2024 18:11

So the Final Award decision they send every year is actually not final at all?!?!

Apply between the 7th and the 21st of the month that leaves a week either side of a possible pay day. Then the day after tax credits to reduce the likelihood of an overpayment ( you may still get one as it's early in the tax year) - so I would apply on the 9th of July. You will have a two week run on with housing benefit.

countesskay · 19/05/2024 14:02

Thank you @DragonFly98

Thank you @DragonFly98

Just missed realised you get paid early at Christmas. Ignore the 7th to 21st advice I would do 7th- 11th instead ideally and no later than the 16th, so the 9th of July is still the perfect time.

Ouchouchthatsthechubrub · 20/05/2024 11:52

Hi hoping someone has some info to help calm me after my migration letter arrived today and sent me panicking ( I’m autistic and don’t handle change well!)

married - 4dc aged 19-9 all with additional needs and on PIP / DLA < Higher rate care lower mobility)

currently neither adult works as we have 80miles a day of school run ( currently taking 4.5hrs a day!) as well as appointments Etc. 2 don’t sleep so we are constantly exhausted and any “ free time” is spent playing up.

i have no idea what elements I need to make sure we apply for etc and when is best to apply:

currently we get CRC weekly, Carers weekly, income support fortnightly and child benefit monthly. Along with housing benefit and council tax benefit.

no idea where to even begin…

Wafflefudge · 20/05/2024 14:11

@Ouchouchthatsthechubrub you don't really need to know what elements you are applying for as such. You just answer all the questions and they add the relevant elements.
E.g they asked do you care for a disabled child. I answered yes so they add a carer element etc.
You just fill in the details for each individual and your housing costs etc.
Council tax and carers allowance are separate im sure though. Although if you get carers allowance they take the equivalent off your UC award.

Ouchouchthatsthechubrub · 20/05/2024 14:18

Ah thank you that makes it easier if they ask questions rather than relying on me to know what to apply for!

Thejackrussellsrule · 20/05/2024 15:17

If you already receive Carer's Allowance, then you both state which person you care for already. The Carer's Allowance is deducted from UC, as it is now from Income Support, and a caring element added.

As you state you have a health condition yourself, if you are not capable of work, I'd advise you get a long term fit note and report this to UC, you would then have a work capability assessment, you may be entitled to the Limited Capability for Work and Related Activity element (LCWRA). You can't get caring and LCWRA elements for the same person, but LCWRA has a higher award, so if you're entitled UC will pay that instead of caring.

Either way, you won't be asked to look for work as you are in a no work related group. The only reason you may have to attend a Jobcentre would be if you can't do your ID or upload housing costs online.

Ouchouchthatsthechubrub · 20/05/2024 16:30

Thank you - the inability to work is mostly due to circumstance rather than health currently so I imagine we will just get caring element.

one thing I’m concerned about is our son who is 19 is due to start higher education in Sept - should I change him on our CTC award now as I read somewhere if I make a change after UC claim I’ll lose transitional protection? It’s so confusing

No don't change him now you can't anyway as it's not happened, you won't loose your TP. It's significant changes like moving from a joint to single claim etc.

Wafflefudge · 22/05/2024 14:46

@JanglyBeads @RainbowZebraWarrior did you get to the bottom of your overpayment.
I'm still waiting for them to recalculate now I've reported the pension payments, no sign of sorting it yet.
Now had letter saying that I've had overpayment for 6th April to 27th April as applied for UC but hoping once they've corrected last year's I'll be OK. Hope they sort it quickly, don't like not knowing how much of the money is mine

JanglyBeads · 23/05/2024 15:00

Am ringing them in half term when I have time to be on hold for ages!

Chocbiccy · 26/05/2024 12:01

Hi, I could do with a little help. I have made the migration from tax credits to universal credits, however for some reason I did this before I was due a payment (I don't get much anyway) but a few days after I put my claim in I had a payment for tax credits. I have gone onto my government gateway and TC's are still active. Have I gone wrong somewhere? Has anyone had the same?
