Here. I submitted two weeks ago and had my ID check last week. Not heard anything since, I hope no news is good news.

elliejjtiny · 19/01/2024 22:06

Thank you. Just filled in all the forms and will press the submit button on Monday after my tax credits have gone in. Really nervous about surviving the next few weeks.

We need to move over soon. How does the transitional projection work? Will we get the same amount of money as we get with ctc for the first 12 mths?

BettyBakesCakes · 19/01/2024 22:57

Also what happens re carers allowance? We won't be entitled to uc due to savings, so will I lose my carers allowance?

That's how it's supposed to work yes, so you get at least as much as you currently get with tax credits.

Lurking and still waiting for my migration letter. Really expected to have received it by now and the waiting is making me anxious- but at the same time I'm dreading it so I feel relief when the post comes and it hasn't arrived.

I don't think savings affect carers allowance only how much you might earn in a week.

Thank you

As far as I know the transitional protection due to tax credits being better lasts until your UC catches up to your tax credits via inflation (or you have a significant change in circumstances). The 12 months is just for savings so you can still claim initially I you have over £16k unless things have changed in the last couple of months.

I have to move over at the beginning of February. Planning to apply on the 29th of January, the day of my last TC payment. Does everyone have to have an appointment at the job Centre? I currently work 30 hours per week, have one child, pay one childcare provider and have no savings. The possibility of an interview is making me really anxious and would be difficult logistically with work.

You may not have to have an ID appointment if they can verify your identity through government gateway or similar. Even if you do need an appointment it is a quick appointment to show documents and nothing to worry about.
The only reason you may need a longer appointment is if you are self employed.

I know this was worked out on the first thread, but to save me rereading 1000 posts, please:
When is the best day to apply to make the transition as smooth as possible, is it the last day of a TC period as above?

Also do they mainly ask you to come for any interviews about a week after yr application? It would be simpler for me if I could have one in half term or Easter hols.

Thanks

Not everyone has to go for an interview if they can verify you through government gateway. You don't usually get a choice when to go , they just send you an appointment, although I guess you can ring and change if it's not convenient. The best time to apply will differ for everyone depending on pay dates etc. Your UC assessment period will start the day you make the claim online and run until one month later with the date of payment being one week after that. So if you applied today your assessment period would be 20-19th of each month and will never change, with payment date being on 26th feb. If paid once a month at the end of the month it's probably best to keep assessment period dates a week or so away from pay date in case you get paid early for Christmas etc as that can then cause problems with 2 pay days falling in one assessment period.

colouringindoors · 20/01/2024 16:59

thanks. my deadline is end of March so I'm going to hold off for as long as possible!

BringItOnxxx · 22/01/2024 19:05

I applied on 11th Jan. Fingers crossed it goes smoothly!

megletthesecond · 23/01/2024 19:39

jangly as far as I understand it's best to avoid applying anywhere near your payday.
About now might be safer.

Jellykat · 24/01/2024 00:23

Heads up, the 2nd cost of living payments for those on TC WTC or UC in Nov/ Dec last year, will be paid next month.

Praying i get mine, as i only got my request for last years figures today (re my old tax credit award) Guess they'll need to make sure i wasnt overpaid before i get the COL payment...

Soccermumamir · 26/01/2024 20:31

I've just done ours tonight. It was awful. Very probing. Considering we only get a tiny bit of child tax and that's it, I was umming and ahhing whether to bother to be honest. My ID checks went through easily because of my gateway, yet partners haven't so he has to wait for a phone call now 🤦‍♀️ Even though I used his passport as well.

It's now saying we should be paid on 3rd March. So five weeks. What an absolute joke.

The five week wait is because it's paid in arrears. You can take an advance to tide you over if you need to.

Thank you 🙂 Luckily, we'll be fine. I've just found it a farce. I line manage at work and have had so many staff members say they have to drop their hours because of the migration process. Not great for businesses either.
